Chapter 1 - "Him"

Remembering You...

I found you in the most unlikely way,

But really it was you who found me.

I couldn't exactly explain my reasoning to you. I don't know even for myself. I can only say is that I loved him and no else before or after him.

I had left my home in Busan to go to Seoul during the summer of the previous year. It wasn't a permanent move, just long enough before school started in Busan.

I didn't know that my staying a few in weeks in Seoul would allow me to find my true love. Even if it wasn't love at first sight. I chuckle every time I remember our first encounter, I had no clue then...

It was the middle of the day, and I was walking to my cheap apartment. My curiosity of a new place caused me to venture out and explore this city's dirty, crowded streets. My grandmother had warned me of the dangers, so I was sure to be cautious and on my feet. Even so, I refused to think what I'd do if something pointed a gun at me.

The sun was blistering hot, and sweat was beading down my face. I felt bad for all the businessmen in suits. I was watching a man in a black suit pass by when some punk tried to snatch my bag. I let out a surprised gasp but quickly grabbed my bag back.

"Hey!" I cried, instinctively lashing out to punch my mugger. The boy fell to the ground and to my surprise started to laugh like a hyena. I was able to get a better look at him as he had his laughing fit. He was a blondie and around my age.

"You didn't seem as tough from far away," he laughed out. I scoffed. That's what you get when you mess with a country-girl. I hurriedly walked away from the idiot.

"Hey, wait up!" The strange boy called. I gripped my bag tightly and quickened my pace. "So, where you from?"

I took a side way glance at blondie. Why should he care? Why was he following me anyway? Should I answer him?

"Busan," I mumbled quickly. My eyes stared at the street before me. There was a little supermarket just up ahead. How quickly, I wondered, could I run there?

Blondie whistled in surprise. "That's way down there. Why are you all the way up here in Seoul?"

"Why does it matter to you," I snapped, getting defensive. What kind of person tries to steal your bag then goes on trying to have a casual conversation? Even a pissed off charging bull has more respect than that. Blondie shrugged.

"I'm just curious." I faltered a bit. Could I trust this guy? Everyone back home said that citizens of Seoul City were mean and rude. This guy claimed to just want to have a simple conversation. "What's your name?"

I stiffened again. My name? Why would I give you my name, I screamed in my head. I gave him a suspicious look.

"I'm Jiyong," he revealed with a smile. I was surprised he had a bright, white smile with all of his teeth and no grill.

"Jiyong?" I asked disbelievingly. He nodded and gave me an expectant look. I hesitated but finally broke.

"Dara." He smiled.

"Nice to meet you, Dara." He gave a mock bow. I rolled my eyes. What a clown. We had reached the store, and I stopped.

"Well, nice talking to you," I said in a rush opening the door. I was grateful to finally be free from this "Jiyong", but it didn't last long. The guy actually just followed me.

"Do you want to get a drink with me?" He asked, with a teasing smile. I looked him up and down resulting into another scoff.

"You don't have money."

"No, but you do." He smiled again. I paused took give him a quizzical look. Was he for real? He kept a confident smile, revealing nothing else. Yeah…I guess he was serious.

"Fine," I sighed. "But you're getting a coke." I wasn't about to deal with a drunk kid Seoul City. Jiyong's grin got even wider.

"Thanks."

I bought him a drink. It was a psychotic thing to do, but it looked like I didn't I have much of a choice.

"You never did answer my question," Jiyong said, taking a drink from his coke. I took another sip from my green tea.

"And what was that?" We were sitting on bench outside the store with nowhere else to go. I don't know what possessed meto sit with a stranger and calmly talk to him. I should have yelled at him to go away or make a scene.

"What are you doing up here?" He gave a genuine curious look. I couldn't help but want to give the benefit of doubt to Jiyong, but I still had my wall up. There was no way I could trust this guy to give too much information.

"I'm staying here until school starts," I answered with enough truth to satisfy him. Jiyong's eyebrows furrowed together.

"College?" I nodded. He looked out into the traffic that was before us. I studied his face as he looked off into space lost in his own thoughts. I wondered mildly what was going through his mind, what images he could be seeing or the words that were forming.

"What are you going for?" He suddenly asked, his brown eyes catching hold of mine. I smiled a bit.

"I want to study as a psychologist."

"Why?" He said this with distaste. I got defensive again, but I held my tongue.

"I've always been fascinated by the human mind," I slowly admitted. "Why do we think the things we think? Feel the things we all feel?"

"That's it?" Jiyong wrinkled his nose. I shrugged.

"That's what I find the most interesting about it. I do want to help people as well, and I've been told all my life that I give great advice."

Jiyong looked away again while taking another large gulp of his drink. I watched. I still couldn't believe I actually bought him a soda and complied with talking to him. I sighed at myself. He can't be that bad…even if he did try to steal my bag.

"What about you?" I asked him, getting tired of the awkward silence (well, it wasn't that silent due to the cars that were honking like crazy and people who walked by on their cell phones). Jiyong laughed like the thought of him and school together was hilarious.

"I'll never get into a college," he finally chuckled out. I shifted uncomfortably.

"Not enough money?" I asked this hesitantly. I didn't want him to suddenly lash out at me for asking too many wrong questions. Too my relief, Jiyong just shook his head.

"Not exactly. It's just not my thing." That confused me. I'm sure a lot of people didn't want to go to college, but they had no choice except to go. College was a for sure way to help yourself be successful.

"Then what is your thing?" Jiyong flashed me another cheerful grin.

"Just living free and happy, and college seems way too stressful for me. I tilted my head slightly and raised my eyes at him. There's something there…No.

"I should go," I insisted, standing up. Jiyong stayed sitting (thank goodness) and just watched me. "It was nice talking to you, Jiyong."

"Yeah…you too." he nodded. With a polite smile I turned to walk away. I looked over my shoulder to make sure he wasn't following me.

He wasn't. I almost stumbled as I just watched him sit on that bench looking out at the traffic again. The sun made his blonde hair stand out, the angle of his jaw was perfect, his eyes were warm, and I realized how handsome he really was.

Stop it, I scolded myself, he tried to steal from you. Then I reluctantly looked away from and continued on walking. Yes, he tried to steal from me, and he was a strange boy I barely knew anything about.

Yet I couldn't help but let gentle forgiveness enter my heart and the burning curiosity and yearning grow larger. Jiyong, even after just having thirty minutes of interaction with him, implanted himself inside my mind. There was a special room and a reserved seat just for him.

I didn't understand, and it instantly frightened me. He wasn't what scared me though. I was calmed by the image of his face, but that squirming anxious feeling didn't leave the pit of my stomach that was what bothered me.

"Aigoo, what is wrong with me?" I asked out loud.

That's how it all began. I was just a country girl, born and raised in Busan, who just went to a big city so she could further her education. Then, life thwarted Jiyong in my path.

I didn't know. He probably didn't either.

Chapter 5: Still no updates and I've read all five chapters once again. Dear author, please give us the remaining two chapters as we are now left hanging in mid-air. I hope you would find time to conclude this rather sad (?) story as I think it can only end with their parting as the title indicates she'll be remembering him. If they're together there's no need to remember, maybe only their interesting past. Looking forward to an update soon...
