Character Development: Their "Feels"
Painting With WordsAUTHOR'S NOTE: AYYYYYYYYYYY LMAO! I'VE BEEN AWOL FOR A WHILE SO HERE'S A CHAPTER! Okokokokbye
So, I've had this problem when it actually gets down to the groove or point when I'm writing and I make a character react in a certain way but it just seems faux and not authentic enough.
When working with plot twists, chuck it at them! Don't make plot twists to suit your characters, make your characters adapt to the situation at hand. If they're developed, it should seem that they should react in a way that (I guess you could say) initially, they would do and not some random crap that would seem totally out of place.
In saying this, life does throw some pretty random things at you so how do you react? You have got to adapt to the situation at hand. You have to deal with it. You're unique and so is your character! That's the beauty of stories and writing.
In addition to this, it does help if you focus on one (or two) things at a time. That way you really do get a feel for your characters and become one with them.
I find that it's helpful to plan your characters and ask questions about how they could possible react at given situations at any possible point in time, establishing their endearing personalities.
Some ways to become one with your character:
1) Write a letter or journal entry from their perspective
2) Interview your character
3) Read!
