Chen x Seura

EXO One-Shot Collection

A/N: In Korea, 1 cheonwon is approximately 1 dollar in US/Canadian currency, or 0.00067 Euro. 1 manwon is approximately 10 dollars in US/Canadian currency, 0.01 Euro. I thought I should translate the Korean currency into American/Canadian one just to have an easier grasp on how much the costs were - not that it's important. I'm using English, so I thought my readers would be in either the States or Canada, or somewhere in Europe. If you're Korean, you'd understand, right? ^^ If you're another nationality, just use google~ Yeah, thought that might be useful...

*Sweet

         “That would be eight cheonwon.”

The man paid the waitress by the cash register a manwon bill. She opened the register and gave him two cheonwon in return. “Thank you, sir. We hope you enjoyed your stay. Please come again!”

The man raised his hand as a greeting, pocketed his wallet, and exited the café. The bell by the door chimed, announcing his leave, and then the door closed. A cold rush of wind entered before it completely shut though, and Seura caught a glimpse of outside.

It was late night. Outside was dark, very dark. It was clearly night. Seura glanced at the wall clock of her café – it was eleven. It was time to close the café up. She worked at Hazelnut Coffeehouse, a little town café where they sold slices of cake, fudge, coffee, tea, soup, whatever was relaxing and soothing, they sold it. But everything was soft – the cookies weren’t hard and your teeth sank right into the brownies while hardly using effort. Nothing was alarmingly cold or burning hot – it was warm or cool. It was an appeasing place that calmed everyone. It was serene.

The scent of cinnamon and honey still lingered in the air, and Seura couldn’t help but inhale deeply and exhale in bliss. She worked part-time here and she enjoyed every moment of it. She had training to practice carrying trays gracefully and properly. She took orders with a true smile and talked in the sweet, kind voice of hers. The uniforms weren’t revealing at all, and in fact, were kind of cute. Blue knee-length skirts with a white blouse, buttoned all the way up and a blue necktie. It was adorable. She also had white knee socks and black flats. There was nothing suggestive in Hazel Coffeehouse’s uniform, unlike some others. She always tied her hair up in a high ponytail. The manager wasn’t very strict about your appearance, you just had to have all buttons buttoned correctly and that you didn’t get your skirt trimmed. These rules benefited Seura as she felt uncomfortable wearing her mini-skirt at school.

She wiped down all the tables and stacked the chairs on the wooden tables, and began sweeping the floor. The walls were colored a friendly beige and the furniture oak, a gentle brown. The floor was flat and waxed, so even the floor was smooth. It wasn’t slippery or sticky though. Just smooth. Everything about this café was pacifying, and Seura loved it. Her school was loud and noisy, so she had a hard time concentrating. But the manager even let her have a one-hour and sometimes, two-hour study break. The manager was very lenient and caring, she was like a second mother or sister. She was also very supportive, but she did her job well, arriving on time and all that. She always knew what to do and what she was doing, it was reassuring.

This whole time, her manager, was watching her. She was leaning against the wall, carefully observing her employee. She was the youngest of them all – nineteen. She was in her first year at post-secondary school, where she was aiming to become a hair dresser. Seura found passion in that field, which was why the manager let her study.

“You seem to be working hard, Seura,” said the manager, finally letting her employee know of her presence.

Seura almost jumped out of her skin as she stopped sweeping. “Y-Yes, Manager!”

The manager grinned at her cute employee’s surprise and stuttering. Just then, she got a text, which made her frown.

Seura tilted her head a bit and squeaked, “Is something wrong, Manager?”

The manager looked up at her employee and back at her phone. “No, everything is alright. But I need to go now – you don’t mind cleaning the rest of the shop up, right?” Seura shook her head with a sweet smile. “Good. Sorry about this, Seura –” the manager slipped into her jacket, still holding her phone “– thanks. Good work today. See you tomorrow – later now!”

         “Goodbye!”

Seura waved, and the manager left the café, the bell at the door ringing again. She sighed as she went back to sweeping the floor. It was a tedious job, but it was easy and completely silent, so Seura could think about what she did today and reflect upon it. She could also go over notes for her school and whatnot. She had a fun time at her hair school too. She didn’t like the black-and-white uniform that was a bit too short for her liking, or the loud crowd, or some of the teachers who were much too laid-back for her to actually learn something. Still, her love for dressing hairs and t it and seeing the satisfied face on the customer was more than enough. Seura was deep in thought about hairs and her dream shop and recently-learned techniques until she heard the bell chime again. She looked up and saw a black-haired boy with a prominent jaw line and a black bag rush in. He seemed quite displeased.

She swallowed. He didn’t seem exactly – placable, but then is eyes said otherwise. His large orbs were kind and gentle, despite his expression contradicting that. “S-Sir, Hazelnut Coffeehouse is now closed. Please come again tomo –” she stopped dead. The way he looked at her – he looked so tired. He looked like he was in his early twenties, not that tall, but over 170cm, and somewhat gentle. But the exhaustion was there and Seura couldn’t help but relate to that. She knew what it was like to be pushed over the edge, to work all night and not rest for another ten hours of studying and learning. Seura understood his exhaustion, and couldn’t help but soften at that. “Well, one couldn’t hurt…” she mumbled to herself as she put the broom aside and took down a chair from one of the tables. Then she gestured towards it. “To your seat then, sir.”

The man sighed in relief as he took a seat, instantly dropping his bag that was definitely filled with books. “Thank you.”

She smiled as she took out her notepad and clicked her pen. “What would you like?”

“Black coffee. No sugar, no milk.”

         “Anything else?”

He took a deep breath and looked at the glass case of displays. “Um, a piece of strawberry cake, I guess.”

She quickly jotted his order down. “Thank you. Just wait a moment, please.” Then Seura went over to the display case, took out a small piece of strawberry cake, and put it on a tray. Then she disappeared behind a wall to make the black coffee.

The boy sighed again, and rested his elbows on the table, his arm bent so that his knuckles reached his forehead, and closed his eyes. His university was overworking him and the final exams were coming up. He shouldn’t even be here – he should’ve gone straight home and make more notes and study more. Maybe he should just leave –

“Here you go, sir.” Seura came with the black coffee and strawberry cake on the tray and placed them on the table. “Enjoy.”

“Thank you –” he looked at her nametag “– Seura.”

She seemed startled by him saying her name, but her smile came back. Just when she was about to ask him his name, she thought better of it and turned away. It would be weird and intrusive to ask for his name. Hers was on a nametag, and customers were supposed to know it, or it would defeat the purpose of a nametag. She went back to the kitchen and let the very last customer enjoy his stay. She took peeks of him – how could she not? He was gorgeous. But it wasn’t right to have affairs with customers. It wasn’t wrong, but it wouldn’t feel right. But he was really nice…not that it should matter! What are you thinking, Lee Seura? Seura scolded herself. She looked at him again and saw that he opened his textbooks and notebook as he chewed on the strawberry cake. I should probably study too… she looked at the same wall clock, and this time, it read 11:27. It was getting late, really late. But it was her fault for letting in one more customer – and a customer was a customer, no matter what time it was. Her priority was that the customer enjoyed their stay, so she wouldn’t rush him. Thinking about him made her glance again, and this time, he sipped his coffee, his eyes not leaving the words printed on the pages. He sipped too much too quickly that he didn’t realize the heat. Coffee was served hot, and she forgot to cool it for a minute. But he had good resilience. He continued reading. It was cute – his tongue should be burning, and it probably was, judging from him on it to cool it, but he kept reading. He was a dedicated student, studying hard. I should really, really study…

After about five minutes, he finished his cake. Then he closed his books and notebook and put his pencil and eraser back into the pencil case and stuffed it in his bag. Seura took that as her cue and took off her apron. His departure meant her dismissal. Her coat was hooked back at the staff’s corner, so she’d get that later. He was about to leave now.

The man took one last drink from his coffee and carefully placed it down, making a small clink noise. He left five cheonwon on the table. “Keep the change!” he said. “My thanks to you in letting me stay past the hours.”

Seura quickly came up to him and bowed ninety-degrees. “Thank you, sir. We hope you enjoyed your stay. Please come again!”

He noticed the absence of her apron. He looked back up at her. “Your shift’s done, right?”

She blinked at his question – wasn’t this the part where he leaves? “Y-Yes, sir. I’m about to head home.”

“It’s dangerous for a woman to walk around when it’s dark,” the man said. He looked like he was in a happier mood. Still tired, but better. “Do you mind me walking you home?”

She blinked rapidly. It was a bad habit of hers when she was taken by surprise. Refuse it, it’s not right. “N-No…” But it’s not wrong…it couldn’t hurt, right? “No, sir. I wouldn’t mind it at all.”

He smiled at her. “Finish up whatever you need to.”

She nodded and quickly grabbed his plate and cup and put it in the sink. Then she quickly took her black coat and wore it, took her handbag, and came back out within a minute. She turned off all the lights. He opened the door for her, the bell ringing once more, and she beamed at him while thanking him as she locked the door.

         “Don’t mention it,” he muttered.

Together, they headed for her house. They didn’t talk and it was slightly awkward, so they were lucky her house was nearby and just around the block. At her doorstep though, she turned around and pursed her lips. He looked at her curiously, wondering why she had done that. He thought maybe it was to greet him, but the girl was silent. After a moment though, she spoke, and it surprised him. “Would you like to stay for a bit?”

He couldn’t help but grin at her kindness. “No thank you,” he said though. “I wouldn’t want to disturb you or your family.”

She nodded, and smiled back. “Okay, then. Thank you for walking me home. Have a good night, sir.”

“Wait –” the boy took out his notebook and scribbled something down. Then, he ripped the page out, folded it in half, and gave it to her. She took it, but looked back at him with a confused expression. “Good night,” he said, and he walked away.

Seura blinked at him, then at the paper. What could it be? She opened it. It read:

011-539-5364

Thanks – call it sometime soon

My name’s Chen by the way

It was his number…and name. He wanted her to call him – he wanted to keep in touch somehow. She couldn’t help but smile again, and looked at him from a distance. His hands were in his jacket as he walked on and turned around the block. “Chen…” she murmured to herself and smiled wider. “Chen.”

The boy, Chen, walked home, figuring out the roads quickly enough. He arrived home in no time, only one name in his head. Seura… He thought about how kind she was, kind enough to let him stay past hours. Her innocent, beautiful face. Her sweet voice. But a sound interrupted his thoughts – his phone ringtone.

Another weird title...sorry :( I at titling things... Haha, well! Hope it was a satisfying update~ Plot credit goes to Yoonhye! She realized that she hadn't read a Chen fanfic so far, so she thought I should write a one-shot with him in it :) Her mind was productive at the right time <33 Thanks Yoonhye! Read her main fanfic, Trust in me (Wolf) here, and my main one, Wolf, Top Gang here. Thanks! ^^

Also: the number written above is completely made up! In Korea, the area code is either 011 or 010, so I got the idea from that...the next seven numbers are completely random! I clicked a bunch of numbers and put dashes in between them and eliminated the last few numbers. Toooootally random. It's not actually Chen's, just saying!! Haha~

@littlefilihaha~ glad you liked it!:)
