Chapter 18 - Goodbye
Broken Promise
A car horn beeps from the outside. You rush outside your balcony, in your pajamas, and breathe in the cold, morning air. You shiver from the chilly wind which gushes strongly against your face. Your hair flicks wildly in the direction that the wind blows.
There he was, dragging his two heavy suitcases behind him. His mother yells at him to hurry up, and he runs to the car with a beaming smile. He must be excited to go to the dormitories. So he will finally become a member of ‘Teen Top’. You feel envious and somewhat angry at this 'Teen Top', because they have stolen Chunji away from you.
Should I say something to him before he leaves? Maybe it would be better if I didn’t do anything at all. Maybe it really is better that way. You lean on your elbow, watching silently over Chunji. You see Chunji as he scans the front door your house, checking if you would be there, standing, smiling and happily waving at him. His smile fades into a face of cruel sorrow. He looks incredibly pained, as if a piece of him were ripped away. His expression left you with a hollow heart. Chun-chun, please don't look like that anymore.
Unable to bear his sad expression, you yell at him from the balcony.
“Leave you stupid-head, you’ll be late!” you call out, cheerfully.
He looks up, squinting, with his hands covering the blinding sun, and he sees you, crying. In spite of your tears, you smile cheerfully at him. So this really is goodbye.
You both look at each other happily, with words unsaid. But you know what he’s going to say, and he already knows what you want to say. Those three words. I love you.
