Bom woke up from her sleep and was surprised she got a full nights rest. Usually she would have nightmares and wake up crying all night. I must’ve been really tired Bom thought while she washed up. As Bom snapped out of her thoughts she remembered how Zelo never came home last night. Bom ran out of her room to hear someone in the kitchen cooking. Bom forgot Top was with her last night as she entered the kitchen to see him making breakfast. Top turned around to see Bom staring at him,
“Good morning. I made some breakfast since you had a long night” Top told her while setting the table.
“Thank You, did Zelo come back last night?”
“He didn’t, He doesn’t have his phone. I contacted CL and Young Guk but Zelo never showed up to the hideout either” Top told Bom. Bom couldn’t help but feel worried.
“Ugh. It’s all my fault. I’m so worried about him. He never stays out this late. He usually calls me”
“Don’t worry he’ll come home. He’s just had a lot on his mind” Top assured her. Bom just nodded at Top and ate her breakfast.
“Thank You for breakfast” Bom said as they quietly sat in the living room waiting for Zelo to come home.
“It’s no problem”. Bom looked at Top and had some questions to ask him but she was too nervous.
“You could just ask instead of burning a hole in me with your eye” Top looked at Bom “I don’t read minds” He quietly snickered at her. Bom couldn’t help but feel embarrassed when Top caught her staring at him like that.
“My bad. I just wanted to know, when did you first meet Zelo? How long has he been ‘working’ for you? Who is CL and Young Guk? Why are you helping Zelo so much?” Bom blurted.
“Whoa! One question at a time there” Top laughed. “Well, I’ll start from the very beginning. I first met Zelo 3 years ago. I met him at one of the meet ups for fights. Zelo was young and not very built but he jumped on the stage and challenged another guy to a fight. Everyone laughed at him because they knew he was going to lose, but they were wrong. Zelo beat the crap out of that guy and won the fight along with the cash that was on the line. People were surprised but I wasn’t. People saw a little weak boy, but one thing that caught my attention was the determination in his eyes. He was angry and confident he could beat the guy up. I give him props. After the meet up everyone left except for Zelo. He was just sitting on the stage looking lost and that’s when I approached him. I asked him why he was there in the first place. He only told me he needed money but I knew it was something more but I didn’t ask. I felt like he needed my help so I told him I would train him and he can pay me back by fighting and winning his fights. Ever since then he’s been working for me. CL is my little sister and Young Guk is her idiotic boyfriend. They’ve known Zelo during that time as well. Zelo told us the real reason he was wanting to fight just yesterday before you called. He said it was for you” Top said looking at Bom very hard “He did it to protect you from your dad. Zelo is like a little brother to me. He’s a determined boy and that’s why I care for him a lot. He also reminds me of my little brother. That’s why I’m helping Zelo because I care for him” Top finished telling Bom as she sat there looking at him with admiration. Bom’s heart was beating so fast hearing how Top cared so much for her brother. She never had anyone care for Zelo as much as she did, but hearing and seeing how much Top as well as CL and Young Guk cared for Zelo made her feel calm that Zelo had people to looks up to. Mostly when their own father never showed the love and care for Zelo growing up. Bom saw Top in a different light, she saw him as a gangster at first but now she saw a man who cared and sheltered for her brother.
“Thank You Top-shi” Bom whispered to stop herself from crying “Zelo had trust issues with men but seeing how open he is to you I’m glad he has someone he can go to other than myself. I don’t know how I could thank you.”
“Don’t thank me. Zelo is a smart boy. You just have to trust him a little bit more and let him take care of you” as Top told Bom while she nodded her head. She looked at Top wanting to ask him another question but when she looked at Top in the eyes she couldn’t even speak. It was like she didn’t need to. Top felt the same, he wanted to ask Bom questions as well but he felt like he didn’t need to while they stared at each other until Bom’s phone started to ring interrupting their moment.
“Hello” Bom answered as she stole glances to Top
“Nonna” she heard Zelo
“Oh my God Zelo! Are you okay? Where are you?” Bom questioned as she looked at Top as Top motioned her to put him on speaker.
“Zelo, I’ve been waiting for you please come home. Noona was wrong. Okay?” Bom said
“……….”
“Zelo? Are you still there” Bom asked
“You really think I would let you go that easily?” A familiar voice got on the line
“Appa?” Bom faintly said as she looked at Top with a scared expression
“Well, hello to you too daughter. How was it meeting my boys last night?” Her father snickered over the phone, making Bom even more scared and making Top ball his fists really tight
“You think you could get away from me? After all these years I let you and Zelo live in my house and you both disrespectfully leave after what Zelo did to me?!” Her father yelled over the phone
“Please we’re sorry. Don’t hurt Zelo, I’ll do anything!” Bom yelled
“Don’t worry sweetheart I didn’t lay a finger on him. But my boy did a pretty good job teaching him a lesson not to mess with me” Her father yelled
“Please, let him go. Just leave Zelo alone, what do you want me to do?” Bom desperately begged
“I’ll let him go but you have to come back home! I don’t care for Zelo, but you better come home if you don’t want to find Zelo’s body at the bottom of Han River” Her father laughed. Bom started to cry thinking about Zelo but before she could speak Top snatched the phone away from her and started to speak.
“Let him go” Top said firmly
“Who are you?” Bom’s father viciously said
“My identity is not important. Let Zelo go” Top said starting to get mad when he heard Bom’s father laughing over the phone
“Wow Bom sounds like you got yourself a man eh? Looks like you’re staying with him. Look here boy Boms business is none of your concern, no matter how much you’re paying her to give you services” Her father said over the phone making Top angry and he can see from the corner of his eyes how Bom was on the verge of crying over what her father said. Top couldn’t believe her father indirectly called her a which he knows she’s not.
“Think what you want, but you better let Zelo go or I’ll come find him myself” Top angrily said
“HA! Wow young man, just know the only way I’ll let this disrespectful mutt go is if Bom comes back home” Her father laughed “I’ve had enough talk. See you at home sweetheart!” Her father said as he hung up.
Top couldn’t help but feel anger take over him but stopped when he heard Bom sobbing. Top didn’t know what to do to comfort Bom so he just sat there and let her cry.
Bom couldn’t believe the words her father said about her, did he really think she was that desperate to the point she will sell herself. Did he really think she was that low? Bom got angry as she stormed into her room to pack her bags. As she was packing her bags a hand stopped her.
“Are you crazy?” Top yelled “Are you really planning on going back to that house?”
“Yes, if keeping Zelo safe then I will go back to that house. It’s my only choice”
“You know there are other was right?” Top said
“Yes, but I don’t want you or anyone getting involved or hurt. This is between me and my father”
“I can help you Bom. Let me help you”
“Thank You Top, but I can do this” Bom assured
“Dammit, this is why Zelo gets frustrated with you. You won’t let anyone care for you!” Top yelled
“I know. But please I only ask one thing from you before I go back to that house” Bom asked. Top looked at her suspiciously. “Look I’m letting you help me here and I know a way you can help me”
“And what’s that?” Top asked
Bom looked in his eyes confidently.
“Teach me” she said
“Teach you what” Top asked with a lost look on his face
“Teach me how to fight. Train me” Bom asked
“I’ll fight him on my own if that’s the only way” Bom said with a hard look on her face.
