Spirits

Midnight Fantasies

~  ☪  ~

The light was faint and the size of an orange. It twirled and whirled in the air shining a white, pure light in the dark forest. Donghae was mesmerized as he watched the ball of light dance in the air as he followed it on his horse. It was beautiful. It reflected rays of hope. He couldn't help but follow it's warmth. The soft trots of the horse and the faint animal sounds of the Infinite Forest were unheard to Donghae's ears. He continued to follow the light until it dissolved into the air. Donghae blinked as he rubbed his fingers through his brown hair trying to make sense of what he had seen. He got off his horse to look around him. Then it hit him. He had wandered away from Eunhyuk. The guardian angel was nowhere in sight.

Instead, there was a large tree similar to an oak tree. It's limbs were spread in wild directions. The bark was pitch black and it basically looked dead. But what Donghae never imagine being on a tree were the leaves or fruits that the tree before him had. Orbs of dark blue and black swirls hung on the tree in various sizes. Some were the size of tiny stones, others could match monster truck wheels. They looked oddly familiar. They resembled ChonChon, the small blue orb that followed Donghae everywhere.

Donghae shut his eyes as he shook his head. The place was too weird. Something seemed off. He had to leave, now. He turned back around hoping to see his horse but it was gone. He never should've stepped off of it. It was too late now there seemed to be some kind of aura pulling him back to the tree. It was a dark aura that sent chills down his spine yet he couldn't help but turn back around. There at the base of the tree sat a large stone turtle. The features were so realistic almost like the turtle was petrified and turned into stone. Seated cross-legged on the turtle was a boy who looked about 18. His black hair blended in with the tree but his hair glistened unlike the dead bark. His eyes were coated with thick eyeliner making his skin seem extremely pale, espicially his chest that was completely exposed. He only wore a pair of extremely baggy silk pants held up by a belt with a red ruby in the center.

"Wh-who are you?" Donghae asked timidly though he stayed frozen to the ground afraid to move any closer. The boy didn't speak nor move as if he was a part of the stone turtle. Daringly, Donghae took a few steps forward, his feet going through the yellow dead looking grass. Finally, the black haired boy's eyes shifted over to meet Donghae's and he suddenly felt an overwhelming chill cascade down his spine.

"The Keeper of the Spirit's Spirit." the boy spoke and Donghae could feel his voice drawing him in closer. His voice was just so mesmerizing. Unconciously, Donghae walked closer until he was standing right before the stone turtle.

"Can you tell me where I am and how to get out of this forest?" Donghae asked.

"I'm afraid that once you have set eyes on me you won't ever be able to leave this forest." the dark haired boy spoke, his face not showing any emotions.

"Wh-what are you going to do to me?" Donghae trembled. He wanted to back away, to run but the aura around the boy seemed to have him trapped and captured.

"Being the Keeper of the Spirit's Spirit, of course I have to make you into one of the Spirits. Seeing my Master hasn't returned yet I must continue the Spirit Making process. So, please cooperate with me." the boy seemed to be completely used to and bored of the entire process. He didn't move though and continued sitting on the turtle shell while Donghae panicked.

"A-Are you going to turn me into a Spirit?"

"Yes. Spirits are these blue orbs containing something that is very important to someone and slowly the orbs will grow and mature until it is time for the Spirit within to hatch. Once it has hatched the important thing inside will have become a Spirit of the person. This Spirit will take the form of a creature with a human-like body but it has very strong powers. Spirits will stay by its owner's side (the one who places their important thing into the orb) until its owner dies." the apprentice explained while Donghae tried to process the information. That really wasn't what he should be doing at the moment either. He should be finding a possible escape.

"But I would have to put something important to me in the orb not me myself." Donghae pointed out and he saw fear flicker in the boy's eyes.

"Why would I want to do that?" the dark haired boy asked. He did sound sincere like he honestly didn't know.

"You just said that's what the process is. Why must I become the spirit?" The boy rested his chin on the turte's head as he pondered what Donghae said.

"You must become a Spirit. That's how these Spirits have been made. That's how all Spirits have been made ever since my Master left." the boy said matter-of-factly. He then waved his hand and sash of blue weaved around Donghae's body before settling on the ground around him. It then hardened into a glass-like surface but much stronger. It began to grow forming around Donghae in a circle. Donghae knew he was about to be engulfed in the blue orb. He began to panic if he becomes a Spirit surely it would effect him on Earth.

"Well, you're a Spirit too. I'm sure you weren't made from your actual body!"

"I was."

"But you shouldn't do that now since it's against your Master's process!"

"Why?" the boy cocked his head to the side not really understanding anything. Donghae sighed there was no hope in escaping. His feet were stuck to the blue glass surface making it impossible to move. In just a few minutes he could become one of the orbs on the tree. But it may take shorter time than that seeing the orb has already formed around his knees.

"Because you're not making Spirits correctly and that way it's hurting innocent people!" Donghae tried to reason and hope the Spirit could understand and let him go.

"So?" Donghae was about to give up now. The boy obviously wasn't going to give in anytime soon. Time was ticking by slowly and if that dratted guardian angel didn't come soon to protect him then Donghae would surely be a goner.

Right on cue, a familiar jet of white shot out into the darkness. It blasted into one of the black tree branches causing orbs of different sizes to fall to the ground. The smaller ones smashed into bits and pieces and there was a flash of blue light and everything dissolved, while the larger ones cracked open and jets of light shot out. Both Donghae and the Spirit turned to watch as the orb hatched. The pieces fell apart like it was an egg. There were flashes of light and then on the ground were sprawled a couple of young women with large mystical tattoos on different places of the body. They looked like they were sleeping peacefully and their bodies emitted a soft glow around them lighting the dark forest up.

"Holy-...I need to break more Spirit Orbs." Eunhyuk's voice sighed as the angel stared at the women.

"Eunhyuk, I remember you're orb. You shouldn't be breaking other orbs." the dark haired Spirit said calmly on his turtle. The blonde angel glared at him before walking up and resting his elbow on Donghae's shoulder while he looked the Spirit up and down including the stone turtle. Donghae glared at the angel wondering why he was wasting time and not saving him.

"I remember you too, Yesung. So you've taken over the job of Keeper of Spirits after Hankyung left?" he snickered and for once Donghae saw the boy's eyes widen and show some emotion.

"Do you know where my master went?" Yesung asked desperately while Eunhyuk only smirked knowing he found a weak spot.

"Are you saying, he left without telling you?"

"That is not your concern. Although, I feel like you are the reason to why he left. Your orb was the last orb he made before leaving. I remember the contents of the orb well too." The threat made Eunhyuk's eyes widen with panic. The last thing he wanted was to be reminded of what he had stored in his Spirit Orb , the very important thing of his.

"Can you two catch up with each other later and just get me out of this thing first?" Donghae wailed. The blue glass was already up to his shoulders and if Eunhyuk kept stalling time then Donghae would become a Spirit soon enough. The angel turned to Donghae and held up his hands ready to break the orb with his magic but there was a light explosion of black at Eunhyuk's feet causing him to leap away from the human.

"You have to become a Spirit. No one can interfere." Yesung stated as he eyed Eunhyuk who was glaring daggers at him for the sudden explosion.

"Why? I've done nothing wrong!" Donghae exclaimed. He was getting extremely worried now, the orb was rising to his chin. This must be the end. To have just started on his journey to the Death Mountains to get out of Sinro he just may get stuck here forever in an orb waiting to hatch. Suddenly a streak of white shot into the air snaking around to engulf Yesung but was blocked by a black force field that shot up around the Spirit. They began fighting, the angel and the Spirit. Black here, white there. Donghae could tell though that Yesung was holding back some of his powers. But this was not the time to fight. Donghae groaned as the orb rose to his nose while he watched Spirit Orbs fall and shatter here and there and Spirits appearing causing Eunhyuk to drool.

"Guardian angels are supposed to protect their humans!" Donghae screeched in annoyance. He knew it. He knew it on Earth before arriving in Sinro and before getting adopted. He would never get the protection and care he desired. No one cared about him enough to put their lives at stake or to even have the thought of keeping him safe. A guardian angel was nothing but just another worker at the orphanage that lied to kids' faces.

Just as the glass reached his eyes blocking his vision to only a dark blue, something struck the Spirit Orb. A crack zig-zagged down the shell before Donghae before the orb shattered into a million pieces and dissolving into the ground. Donghae felt his vision blur as he fell into someone's arms. He still had his eyes open but his head hurt too much for him to see right.

"Stop making Spirits and I'll take you to your master." Eunhyuk demanded as he kept Donghae standing upright in his arms. He had to admit the boy was pretty heavy though.

"I'll have to stop making Spirits?" Yesung asked and there was a tinge of fear and discomfort in his voice. He clearly didn't like the change. The boy looked around the tree at the Spirits sleeping on the ground and the few orbs that were left on the dead black tree. "Will you really be able to take me to my master?"

"Yes, I swear to Shisus I will take you to your master as long as the Spirit Making will be put on hold." Eunhyuk compromised. He really hoped the Spirit would agree. It wasn't like he had another choice.

"Fine." Yesung agreed making Eunhyuk smile at his success while he tried to prop Donghae back on his two feet. The human was swaying around and it was extremely bothersome.

"My head hurts." Donghae mutters holding his head. It was the after effect of the Spirit Orb and that happening to a human just made it a bit more severe.

"Ah, I'm just glad you didn't go when I shattered your orb." Eunhyuk sighed as he slumped Donghae over his horse that had come trotting over. Donghae's horse was nowhere to be seen luckily Eunhyuk's was more obedient. The angel hopped onto the horse with Donghae seated behind him hugging his waist.

"Yesung, let's go. We have to get out of the forest before the brat wakes up." the Spirit nodded as he patted the stone turtle's head. With a rumble the turtle cracked it's outer shell to reveal a real turtle beneath the stone. It walked up to Eunhyuk's horse. Surprisingly it wasn't as slow as a turtle really was. They were just about to leave behind the Spirit Orbs and its trees when Eunhyuk had to turn around to stare at the Spirits.

"Do you think we could take the Spirits?" he asked Yesung but the Spirit only ignored him and rode his turtle into the Infinite Forest.
