CH5: Sulli's Father

MISFITS: 사랑한다면 이들처럼

“Can you please not do that while we’re out in public?” Kyungsoo pleaded when he felt Kai reaching for his hand as they walked side by side. Amber looked at the two curiously when she heard Kyungsoo’s annoyed voice.

“Why? No one’s here and it’s dark out anyway!” Kai said throwing his hands up in the air twirling around and showing the smaller boy that indeed no one was around.

“I just don’t want us to get caught!” Kyungsoo defended. “What if some random stalker of yours was following us and took a picture and posted it all over the internet. Think about the trouble you’d get into with your dad.”

“Oh, don’t worry about that.” Amber said butting into the two teens. Kyungsoo turned to his best friend with a questioning stare when she spoke up. “My dad knows about… yeah.”

“He knows about us?!” Kyungsoo screamed out turning to his boyfriend. Kai scratched at the back of his head while nodding his head. “Why didn’t you tell me? When did you tell him?! Does he know about you too, Amber?!”

“Like a year ago. And yeah he does.” Amber said snickering at the two. Kyungsoo stared at Kai in disbelief while Kai threateningly glared towards his little sister.

“What?!” Kyungsoo screamed out again.

“Run. You have three seconds to start running before I kill you.” Kai told Amber with a low threatening tone. “One. Two. Thr-”

Amber’s eyes widened when she realized that Kai wasn’t kidding around. Turning quickly she made a dash towards her dorm with Kai in hot pursuit behind her. Kyungsoo stayed frozen in his spot staring as the two ran off leaving him behind. He was still in shock at the new profound facts Amber bluntly stated.

On the other hand, Amber had managed to run up the stairs of her dorm building managing to lose Kai for a good few seconds. She stopped when she didn’t see him behind her and leaned against a wall to catch her breath. Her lungs felt like they were about to explode but when she heard Kai yell from behind her she started to run again towards her dorm room.

“Yah!” Kai yelled picking up his pace until he was just behind Amber. Before he could grab the back of her jacket she had made a sharp turn making him run straight into the wall in front of him. Amber turned around to see her brother grabbing a hold of his nose and she couldn’t help but burst out laughting at his pained face.

“Sorry, bro!” Amber yelled cupping her hands around . Kai shook his head getting rid of the dizziness he momentarily felt before starting to run after the younger girl. Amber’s breath hitched in as she saw him start to chase her again.

Amber pushed herself until she was in front of her dorm room before quickly swiping her ID card and opening the door. Before she could close it, Kai had jumped in through the crack and tackled her to the ground.

“Ha! Gotchu, you little punk!” Kai yelled in victory. Amber completely out of breath pushed her brother off of her and grunted in pain.

“You didn’t need to tackle me, you jerk.” Amber said in between deep breathes. Her right hand reached up towards her chest clenching at her shirt tightly.

“Oh , you alright?” Kai asked panicking once he realized Amber was struggling to breath. He took off his backpack and reached into one of the small pockets taking out the inhaler he always carried around with him. Ever since they were younger, L and Kai both carried around an extra inhaler incase of emergencies for Amber. Turning on the inhaler he carefully pulled Amber into a sitting position and positioned the inhaler in before pressing one of the buttons which blew a gust of air into the girl’s mouth.

“I’m fine. Stop.” Amber whined once she got her steady breathing back. Kai nodded his head and turned off the device. He worriedly looked over to the other girl who sat with her chin rested on her chest with her eyes shut tight. Her breathing was back to normal.

“I’m sorry, Ber.” Kai said patting the other’s back gently.

“What’re you guys doing on the floor?” The two turned their heads and quickly stood up when they saw Sulli, Krystal and a tall man in an army uniform.

“He tackled me.” Amber said pointing her thumb towards her brother. Kai just nodded dumbly beside her.

“Uh huh… oh this is my dad.” Sulli said introducing the tall man beside her to her new friends. They bowed to the older man. Sulli then walked up between the two teenagers and started to introduce them to her father. “Dad, this my roommate, Amber Bi. And this is her brother, Kai Bi.”

“Hello, sir.” Amber and Kai greeted the tall male together.

“You two must be Rain Bi’s children.” The man said looking carefully at both children. “Isn’t there another one of you?”

“We have an older brother, his name is Eru.” Kai said nodding his head.

“Ah, does he also go to this school?” The older man questioned walking up to the two teenagers.

“Yes, Mr. Choi.” Amber answered this time. She watched the older man closely as he stepped nearer and examined both of them intently making her feel nervous. Kai on the other hand felt like his personal bubble was being invaded. It took all of his self-control not to tell the older man off.

“Is that a portable O.PUR?” Mr. Choi asked staring at the small device in Kai’s hands. “May I see?”

“Y-yeah, sure.” Kai said hesitantly handing the older man Amber’s inhaler. The fact that he knew what the device was made the two teens feel uneasy.

“You know I knew the woman that invented this.” Mr. Choi said twirling the small inhaler between his long fingers. He pressed several of the buttons making the device beep here and there. “Yours looks very advanced, very different from the first one I remember seeing. I didn’t know she even continued to make these. So do you have breathing problems, Mr. Bi?”

“No. My sister does.” Kai said shaking his head. Mr. Choi turned his head to the shorter of the two and looked her up and down.

“Then you should make sure you have this with you at all times.” Mr. Choi stated handing Amber the inhaler. Amber just numbly nodded her head and held onto her inhaler. “Well, I better go. Sulli, make sure to do well in school. And if you want… you should bring your friends back to the resort some time. I’ll visit again soon. Goodbye Sulli, Krystal. You should watch out for yourself Ms. Bi, don’t want to get into any accidents now.”

"Yes, sir."

“Bye dad.” Sulli said pushing her father out the door when she saw Amber’s uncomfortable face.

“Bye Mr. Choi.” Krystal said waving at the older male as he left.

Kai couldn’t help but glare at the older man as he walked out of the room. He then turned to his sister and snatched the inhaler out of her hands.

“Then you should make sure you have this with you at all times.” Kai mocked in a high-pitched voice making the three girls look at him with weird expressions on their faces. He mumbled incoherent words to himself as he picked up his bag and stuffed the inhaler into his backpack where he always kept it.

“Isn’t that Amber’s inhaler?” Krystal asked watching the boy close and throw his bag over his shoulders after stuffing the inhaler in the pockets.

“Yeah but this is my extra for her incase she forgets or loses hers. Or if she just doesn’t have one around and needs it.” Kai explained.

“Is it that serious?” Sulli asked looking at Amber with a worried expression.

“No.” Amber said quickly shaking her head. “They just like to be over protective and stuff.”

“They?”

“Our dad, uncles, me, Kyungsoo and L. And it is very serious!” Kai said with a sigh sending a quick glare towards Amber’s direction while his hands rested on his hip. “We all carry one around with us everywhere just incase cause Amber tends to be stupid sometimes.”

“Should we have some around the apartment just incase? Or should we carry around some too since we’re roommates and we always see each other?” Sulli asked her face filled with panic. “I mean what if she has a really bad attack?!”

“It’s not that serious. I haven’t even had an attack in a whi-” Amber said nervously shaking her head with a small chuckle. She could feel Krystal staring at her attentively.

“You should give me and Sulli one Kai. I mean what’s the harm in that right? Just to be on the safe side.” Krystal said cutting Amber off.

“No, that’s not necessary and besides you guys won’t even know how to work it. It’s not a regular inhaler.” Amber said cutting in quickly before her brother could say anything.

“It’s an inhaler, I’m pretty sure it’s not that complicated.” Krystal said rolling her eyes at the shorthaired girl. “And besides I’d rather not have your dad suing me if something happens to you.”

“Yeah, that’s true.” Sulli agreed nodding her head slightly as she thought about the possibility.

“Nothing’s going to happen to me and my dad would never sue you guys. What does that have anything to do with-” Amber started to argue back.

“I’ll ask my dad for some extra ones for you guys.” Kai said happily completely ignoring Amber.

“Wait, no don't!” Amber begged following Kai as he exited the dorm with a big smile spread across his face. Sulli and Krystal giggled at the two siblings as they exited the dorm.

“They’re so weird.” Sulli said tilting her head to the side watching Amber chase after her brother down the empty dorm hallway.

“Mhm.” Krystal hummed nodding her head.

“General Choi, we discovered something odd in the Paragon formula.” A petite man dressed in a lab coat stated walking next to the tall general with a clipboard in his shaky hands. He pointed at his papers and showed the taller male. “We found out that each human test subject has reacted differently when we injected the formulas into their blood streams. Each one died within forty-eight hours, two days… but they all had different deaths. We may have found the answer to their deaths however…”

“What do you mean?” The general asked looking over the scientist skeptically.

“E-each one had different blood types.” The scientist stated nervously, sweating through his lab coat. The general had always scared him to the point of wanting to poop his pants.

“So?” The general asked annoyed by how slow the other was answering him. “Get to the point.”

“The different blood types react differently to the formula. Maybe this is why Doctor Jihoon Jung had the kids undergo surgery years ago. He knew that they would all react differently because they had different blood types.”

“Don’t ever bring up Jihoon’s name in front of me ever again unless you want to be fired.” General Choi stated with a calm but threateningly low voice towards the frightened male. The scientist nodded his head afraid to answer. “Now, tell me more about this different blood types nonsense.”

“O-one of the human experiments are still alive and doing quite well actually. He is so far the only one that hasn’t had any problems as of yet.” The scientist cleared his throat and wiped his sweaty face before continuing. “Turns out his blood type is AB… AB blood types don’t seem to have any side effects when Paragon is infused into their blood streams.”

“Which experiment?” General Choi asked as he entered the Paragon experiment laboratory with the scientist right behind him. He looked through the window and stared down towards the unmoving bodies below. When he didn’t get an answer he turned towards the frightened scientist and repeated his question. “Which experiment, Dr. Do SukWon?”

“Oh, uhm… Experiment S.O.L, Pivate First Class Dong YoungBae. He was an E-3 rank in the army. Twenty years old.” The other man stated as he read through his clipboard.

“Once he’s healed I want him transferred into my facility as soon as possible. I have plans for S.O.L.” The tall general nodded his head letting the information sink into his brain. The scientist next to him nodded his head in understanding before making his way down to the laboratory.

“Are you sure he said that?” L asked not believing his younger siblings as they told him about their encounter with Sulli’s father.

“Yes!” Kai said getting frustrated that L wasn’t believing them. “He said and I quote ‘Is that a portable O.PUR’!”

“He did and he even said that he knew who made it and stuff.” Amber said adding to Kai’s sentence.

“Maybe dad knows him or something.” L said nonchalantly as he started to eat his bowl of cereal.

“I’m pretty sure he doesn’t! He asked if we were Rain Bi’s kids and it wasn’t in a friendly way either.” Kai told the older boy who continued to not listen and believe.

“You don’t think it’s weird at all, L?” Amber asked staring at her oldest brother. L just shook his head.

“I’m pretty sure he doesn’t mean any harm. His daughter, maybe, cause she’s rude.” L mumbled out between his chewing.

“Seriously L…” Kai said letting out a loud sigh. He quickly snapped his neck to look at the older boy when he realized L was talking about Sulli. “Hey! She is a nice girl! You were the one that was rude.”

“What happened between you and Sulli?” Amber asked curiously.

“Nothing, she bumped into me and didn’t apologize. She’s just rude. You shouldn’t hang around her too much Ber, she might rub off on you.” L said shrugging his shoulders.

“Actually, you’re the rude one here.” Kai said angrily crossing his arms over his chest. “She doesn’t even need to apologize. You should be the one apologizing to the poor girl!”

“Why should I apologize, she’s the one that bumped into me.” L said rolling his eyes.

“You’re such a jerk sometimes.” Kai said shaking his head in disbelief before walking out of the room.

“I’ll apologize to her for you if you want.” Amber suggested to which L just scoffed at her. She sighed but continued to talk knowing he was still listening to her offer. “I’ve always done it for you in the past. I know how you are... Kai just doesn’t understand but I do. I’ll tell her you’re sorry next time I see her.”

“Thanks, Ber.” L said smiling warmly at his little sister.

“You should learn to be less cold it’ll make my life a lot easier, just saying.” Amber nodded her head before heading out of her brother’s dorm. L just shook his head with a small smile at his little sister’s words.

“So you press this button to turn it on?” Krystal asked as she pointed at the largest button on the small device in her hands.

“Yeah.” Amber answered nodding her head. She laughed at the other girl’s face when the device and started beeping.

“Wow…” Krystal said in amazement as the device’s buttons lit up in different colors. “What does this button do?”

“That-” Before Amber could answer, Krystal had pressed the button making the device blow out a large gust of air into her face surprising her. “turns the air on.”

“Ah!” Krystal screamed out shaking her head as the metallic air continued to blast at her face. “How do you stop this?!”

“You have to press the same button to stop it.” Amber instructed laughing as the other girl turned the device away from her face to end the harsh metallic air blowing out.

“I’m pretty sure normal inhalers aren’t this complicated to use... or harsh.” Krystal said blowing the hair that fell in front of her face away.

“I told you it’s not a normal inhaler!” Amber told the other girl. She rested her elbow on her knee with her chin in the palm of her hands as she stared at the longhaired girl who was looking at the device attentively.

“I’ll get it sooner or later.” Krystal said crinkling her nose towards the shorthaired girl. “Oh yeah before I forget... are you free this weekend?”

“Yeah, why?”

“You wanna come with me, Taemin and Sulli to a party on Saturday? Our friend is throwing a house party and he said we could bring people and stuff. You can bring your brothers and that other guy if you want.” Krystal said looking hopeful towards Amber.

“Yeah, sure.” Amber said nodding her head to the idea. “That sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun. I’ll tell Kyungsoo and my brothers about it.”

“Alright, cool.” Krystal smiled towards the shorthaired girl before standing up and tossing the inhaler at her. “You can teach me how to use that thing when Sulli and I get one. I’m going to go finish my homework before you end up distracting me even more.”

“I didn’t distract you! I was just using my inhaler then out of nowhere you walked in and asked about it. That’s your own fault, don’t be blaming me.” Amber said defending herself. Krystal just let out a light laugh before sticking her tongue out at Amber not bothering to reply back and walked towards her bedroom leaving Amber alone in her own room once again.
