OBSERVATION
Misunderstood
A few months passed and the two became more social, waving in the hallways when they passed each other. More recently, Tiffany got accustomed to Yuri meeting her by the locker before Sociology started. She took her books out of her locker and placed them in her bag. As she was about to close her locker door, she heard someone call out.
Yuri ran up to Tiffany’s locker and shouted, “Fany!”
Tiffany closed the locker and turned to face Yuri. “Fany,” she questioned.
“Yeah, Fany. You don’t like the nickname,” asked Yuri.
“It’s so sudden,” Tiffany said.
“Oh come on! We’ve been talking to each other for months. I think I’m allowed to give you a nickname by now,” said the taller girl.
“Fine, but way Fany, it makes me sound like a ,” stated Tiffany.
“Fany is easier to say than Tipp,” replied Yuri.
“You mean Tiff,” said Tiffany.
“That’s what I said,” exclaimed Yuri.
People were starting to stare at the two going back and forth. They didn’t know if this was some comedy routine or if the two were going insane. Noticing this Tiffany sighed and said, “Okay, Fany. Let’s just hurry up. Everyone is beginning to stare this way.”
“Really,” asked Yuri as she turned and faced the crowd. She smiled and waved at them and they immediately beamed and began to walk away.
The two began to walk towards the classroom. Tiffany looked over at Yuri occasionally. There was something on her mind that has been bugging her a bit. “Why do you always do that Yuri,” she asked.
“Do what Fany,” said Yuri as she continued to walk.
“Cater to the other students. Doesn’t it bother you that they treat you like some untouchable goddess? I mean sure, you are beautiful, nice…”Tiffany began but got cut off.
“I know I am,” Yuri stated.
“…and cocky,” Tiffany teased with a light punch.
“Hey,” exclaimed Yuri.
“All jokes aside, you aren’t upset that people treat you so differently,” she asked.
Yuri stopped right outside the classroom door. Tiffany stood besides her waiting for an answer. Yuri looked at the shorter girl carefully and sighed. “It’s not like I don’t like the attention they give me. I actually enjoy it to be honest. There are times where I wish they could put themselves in my shoes and see how isolating it can be. What’s the point of having dozens of people adore you if not one of them makes the effort for you to adore them back? In that sense it is frustrating but that is the reality of it,” Yuri explained and entered the classroom. Tiffany could only stare at Yuri’s back.
As Tiffany was waiting for the teacher to come in and begin the lesson, her classmates kept staring at her. Tiffany continued to read her notes for the class and Yuri had her head down for some reason. The stares soon turned into secret pointing. The pointing then led to gossip.
“Who the heck does she think she is being all on Yuri like that?”
“I know right! This girl is a nobody.”
“Seriously. She’s in no club activities, her grades aren’t spectacular, and she’s not even that cute. What the heck does Yuri see in her in the first place?”
“Maybe she blackmailed Yuri into being around her…”
“Oh my god! For real?”
The mindless noise was beginning to irritate Yuri. She couldn’t hear what they were talking about but she knew from past experience that they were gossiping about some poor soul. Yuri never understood why people would do that and be so petty. Yuri lifted her head from the desk and sent a cold glance in the direction of the gossipers. They immediately froze and stopped talking. After looking at them for a few seconds, Yuri smirked and placed her head down again. No one talked until the teacher came in.
