EXTRACTION.

Debris flew all around him. The buzzing in his ears was a clear sign of the exposition to the sound of a mine exploding close to him. The ringing made him dizzy, but Chansung knew he had to get up and keep moving, the danger fueling his body with adrenaline. His mission was clear in his mind.

Get Junho out of harm's way.

The subject he had to retrieve was the son of a secret agent that just died trying to deliver intelligence for their government. They assigned Chansung the job because of his experience with rescue missions of people of interest that were in danger. This job wasn’t any different.

The only difference he found was that he may or may not have a special interest in getting Junho out of there on his own, assignment aside. He knew long ago that letting his feelings interfere with his job was not an option, but years of training and experience had gone out of the window when he understood that not only North Korean authorities wanted Junho dead but also their own people desired to get rid of him.

He knows too much.

Was all they said when he contacted them to ask for assistance with their escape. They only cared about the intelligence they could gather from him. Chansung decided he would keep the man out of their hands, even if it meant they could flag him as a defector, because he didn't understand why Junho had to pay for whatever his father had involved him into.

The dizziness went away, and he could focus more. He gathered their surroundings and assessed the man in his arms.

“Hey!! Are you alright? We need to keep moving. They’ll know our position right away, thanks to the explosion.” He said, while helping the other man to get up. Chansung was used to it, so he recovered quickly. But it was a different story for Junho.

“Mm… Fine.” was all the smaller man could mutter, but he got up anyway.

“Here, I’ll help you.” Offered Chansung, while putting an arm around the other’s waist. Junho put his arm around the taller man’s shoulder to steady himself.

The taller man was supporting half ofhof weight, but it was the only way they could walk away without the smaller man falling. Chansung had been careless, and they were almost blown away by those anti-personnel mines strategically placed all over the ground.

They had to cross the border in time or they would lose their last opportunity to escape from both North and South Korean soldiers. Chansung called a friend of his, and he had agreed to meet them at some point crossing the border to help them get away from South Korean authorities, but he would wait only until midnight.
