Waking Up To A Nightmare

To Fix Reality [Discontinued]

              As Lu Han finally finds himself getting over the shock evoked by Yang’s kiss, his eyes closed shut in his euphoria at the sudden contact which he had missed dearly for over half a year. His arms tighten around her small waist as he whispers in her ear after she slowly pulls away, “I love you.” He plants another sweet kiss on her lips, “I love you so much...”

              Someone’s hand shakes Lu Han’s shoulder and he whines when Yang pulls away from him at the same moment. He refused to face the person shaking his shaking; he was a bit afraid that it was either Yi Xing or Kris that caught the two of them lip-locking. Lu Han buried his face into her neck and he heard a light chuckle that sounded like it was from her.

              “Lu Han, come on,” she said softly, the shaking came again. “Lunch is ready.” The hand on his shoulder shook him even harder this time. “Wake up, Lu Han. Get up, let’s go!”

              That was when he furrowed his eyebrows. That was when he understood everything. That was when he felt like he was going to cry...

You have got to be kidding me... are you serious?

              Keeping his eyes shut, refusing to open them, Lu Han held on tighter to the body he had once thought was Yang before. Now he had no idea what, or even who, he was holding.

              “Come on, Yang Yang. Lu Han’s probably tired, we should let him rest.”

              Kris. His voice rang through the darkness of Lu Han’s closed eyes. The hand on his shoulder reluctantly pulled away. The warmth that had encased him left with it.

              “But Kris, I mean...Lu Han needs to eat, you guys have practice an hour after lunch, right?...He..All of you need to eat you know...You can’t just leave him out if he’s tired...” Lu Han could picture the frown on her face as she spoke to her boyfriend. He was happy that she still stood up for him.

              Lu Han slowly opened his eyes. In his arms was little Xiao Fu, sleeping soundly, not the love of his life. The 5-year-old would give a light snore every now and then. Lu Han couldn’t help but smile at the dreaming, small boy. He planted a light, loving kiss on Xiao Fu’s temple, placing his hand on the other side of his small body so that he can prop himself up.

              When Lu Han was sitting up, the blanket placed over him and Xiao Fu fell from his shoulder. He looked up, opening his mouth to say something, but he stopped at the sight before him. Whatever he was about to say was wiped clear from his mind. His heart clenched at the sight before him. Lu Han felt his broken heart shatter into unfixable pieces.

              Yang finally pulled away, the blush on her cheeks was relatively prominent. She hit her fist lightly against Kris’ chest. “You are so...”

              “In love with you,” Kris whispered, he placed his forehead against hers, a bright smile gracing his lips. Yang smiled, closing her eyes and breathing in his scent.

              “Yeah...that...” she giggled. Her arms around his neck slackened, but Kris’ arms tightened around her waist. “Hey...” Yang refused to look into his eyes with the blush overtaking her face. “Let me go, you need to go eat remember?”

              “I’ll just take you with me,” he pecked her cheek.

              “Tch...come on, Kris. Let me go.”

              While the two of them quarreled, neither of them had noticed Lu Han, sitting up. His eyes were b with tears as he watched them; he finally tore his eyes away from them wiping his eyes just as Yang turned back to look at his bed.

              “Oh, Lu Han! You’re awake now,” she smiled that caring smile of hers that Lu Han had fallen for. When Lu Han had wiped his eyes, it looked as if he were rubbing the sleep out of his tired eyes, so neither adults suspected his tears. “Come on, let’s go eat..”

              Kris’ arms around Yang had now retracted. The 18-year-old girl fixed her dark hair so that it was all lying at her back now. She stood on her toes to leave a peck on Kris’ cheek before turning around and heading out the door to the others, leaving Kris and Lu Han alone.

              Kris and Lu Han.

              It was strange, Lu Han couldn’t bring himself to hate EXO-M’s leader. He didn’t understand it himself. Why couldn’t he? He had the girl he had definitely fallen in love for. It wasn’t only strange to Lu Han, Kris didn’t understand it neither. However, he was quite grateful for that.

              The two of them stayed in the room in ultimate silence, the occasional snore coming from Xiao Fu and the whirring of the air conditioning were the only sounds in the entire room. Kris stared at Lu Han. Lu Han stared at Kris. Neither understood the other, nor did they understand themselves.

              “Kris...”

              “Lu Han...”

              The two of them spoke at the same time, stopped and tried to again:

              “You first...”

              “You go first...”

              The two stared at each other again. After a while, Kris opened his mouth to speak again, but Lu Han stopped him.

              “Kris,” he said quietly. He slipped off of the bed, making sure not to shift Xiao Fu into waking up. Kris took a deep breath before opening his mouth to speak. Lu Han settled at the edge of the bed.

              “About...about Xiao Yang...”

              Lu Han flinches at her name.

              “I–”

              Before anything else could come out of Kris’ mouth and hurt Lu Han with words that would lash out at him again, the door flung open. It was energetic, little Xing Ke, Xiao Fu’s older, 7-year-old brother. “Ge ge, are you not hungry?”

              “Xing Xing-ah...” Kris sighs, upset that he wouldn’t be able to finish whatever he was saying.

              “Come on, Ge ge. Let’s go,” Xing Ke runs up to the towering Chinese man, pulling on his larger hand. “I’m hungry, Kris ge...” he whined.

              Kris looked down at the 7-year-old, bending down to pick him up. Xing Ke ends up on Kris’ shoulders, about six feet off of the ground, giggling as he holds tightly on to Kris’ larger hands. While Xing Ke played with his hand, Kris looked over at Lu Han as if he wanted to say something, but he wasn’t sure whether or not he should say it. After a while, Xing Ke whined again, pulling on the rapper’s hands. Finally deciding against speaking, Kris turned around, ducking under the door so that the little boy wouldn’t hit his head.

              He walked past Yi Xing who stepped aside before walking in to talk to Lu Han. The singer stood up, as he approached.

              “Are you...are you alright?”

              “I’m fine,” Lu Han wanted to roll his eyes at the guitarist. Letting out the millionth sigh that day, Yi Xing shook his head before walking over to his bed. He bent over the bed, to plant a sweet kiss, on his younger cousin’s cheek. Xiao Fu swatted at the air above his cheek before sprawling over on his back and grabbing the comforter that Lu Han had covered him with like it was his little blankie.

              Lu Han watched Yi Xing’s loving action; he knew that Xiao Fu had always steered clear of Yi Xing ever since he could walk. He stared at the other boy, in deep thought; wondering how Yi Xing could still show so much affection for his younger cousin, even though the 5-year-old avoided him so often.

              “What?” Yi Xing blinked at the older boy in confusion when he caught him staring. “Did I do something weird? Is there something on my face?” As he asked, his hand came up to brush at his face.

              Lu Han couldn’t help but chuckle at how self-conscious the dancer seemed.

              “What?”

              “I was just thinking...” Yi Xing looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to go on. “I was just thinking about how you can still show so much love when you know–”

              “That he hates me?”

              “Well, no. I mean–”

              He interrupted Lu Han with a chuckle. “I know what you mean. It’s just that I can’t help it. He’s such a sweet child, he has my blood running through his veins too. It’s a sort of...brotherly love you could say.”

              Lu Han could only nod.

              “I think that all children deserve a certain love like this. Xiao Fu and Xing Ke’s parents are always busy. Their older sister is away, studying in the States, so they never see her. They’re usually dropped off at a daycare center, but that place is so expensive that they stay home most of the time with an irresponsible high schooler.”

              Surprised at his sudden little speech, the vocalist could only gape at Yi Xing in surprise.

              “Xiao Fu may not like me as much as his brother does, but he deserves just as much love from me as I give to Xing Xing.”

              Lu Han laughed just a little bit.

              “Is something funny?”

              “No, I was just thinking...you’d be a great father...” Lu Han let a true smile grace his lips.

              “You know, Yang Yang is always saying that,” Yi Xing shook his head before standing up.

              Lu Han felt his heart drop again. He and Xiao Yang had always thought alike; it hurts to think that she still thinks that way, even though she doesn’t know it anymore.

              By the time, Lu Han is done thinking about Yang, he looks up to find Yi Xing waiting for him by the door.

              “You coming?” The dancer asked expectantly.

              “Yeah...”

~~~
              Like dinner, lunch was no easy feat for Lu Han. Yang sat in front of him, Kris and Tao on either side of her. Yi Xing and Chen sat around Lu Han while Xiu Min and HyunKyun sat at the ends of the rectangular table. Kai and Sehun stuffed themselves around the table, moving seats every now and then when one of the EXO-M members would push them off their chair.
               Unlike their dinner in China, lunch in Korea was loud and obnoxious with EXO-K’s two maknaes. It wasn’t until they were half-way done with their meal that their doorbell rang.
              “I’ll get it,” Chen placed his bowl and chopsticks down, just as Lu Han did. Unfortunately, he didn’t realize that Lu Han was begging to be the one to leave the table and the older boy was forced to sit in front of his amnesic girlfriend who was happily chatting away with Kris. JongDae looked through the peephole to find the younger leader standing in front of a tall giant that dwarfed the other three boys with him. Chen quickly opened the door, “Hyung! What are you guys doing here?”
              “Is it bad to just come see my dongsaeng?” the brown-haired boy in the front asked, placing his hand on top of his head and ruffling his black-hair.
              “Well, no...I mean..well...” Chen’s words were stuck in his throat, not knowing how to answer. The giant reached over the leader to ruffle Chen’s hair.
              “He’s just messin’ with ya, JongDae,” he chuckled and Chen let out an awkward laugh before stepping aside to give them room to walk in.
              “Hyung!!” Xing Ke pushed himself off of Kris’ lap, running towards one of the three brown-haired men. The man knelt down and picked the little boy up, swinging him around in a circle.
              “Hey there, buddy. You’ve grown so much,” the man sang. “How old are you now?”
              Xing Ke held up eight fingers.
              “Eight?!” the man gasped. When he heard this, the little boy glanced at his hands and jumped slightly with a giggle.
              “No!” He fixed his fingers. “I’m seven, Suho hyung!”
              “Ah, seven?” the brown-haired leader asked, slowly nodding his head.
              “Yes, seven!”
              “You’re growing up Xing Xing...” Suho chuckled, putting the younger boy down on the ground.
              Xing Ke led Suho to their table, and everyone else greeted the rest of the group. “Come, sit down and eat with us,” Kris invited the three. SuHo made a face and shook his head:
              “As much as I wish we could, I’m afraid I’m only here to pick up our maknaes for practice.”
             The two younger members of EXO-K whined in protest, but in the end, both were picked up by the two shorter boys.
             “Aw, come on, Baekhyun hyung,” Sehun frowned, when the singer pulled him up from his seat on the extra stool. “Do I have to go?”
              “Yes, you do, Sehun,” Baekhyun closed his eyes, and the eyeliner that encircled his eyes could be seen easily. He shook his head, “come on Sehun. We’ll have to go or else Manager hyung will be mad at us.”
              “Kyungsoo hyung...?” Kai tried, but the shorter male refused to fall to his puppy eyes.
             “Kai, you know the drill. Come on, let’s get a move on,” Kyungsoo pulled the younger, taller male along by the back collar of his shirt.
             The two maknaes were pulled out the door, followed by the always smiling giant. The tall man waved at everyone before ducking under the door by habit, even though it was a bit taller than him.
              “Maybe we can go for dinner this week,” Suho ruffled Xing Ke’s hair before taking a step towards the door. The seven-year-old boy pouted when he saw his favorite EXO-K member walking off. “I’ll come back to visit soon, okay? How does that sound, Xing Xing?”
              That same smile soon overtook the little boy’s face and he nodded enthusiastically. “Soon, hyung?” he held up his pinky finger for a promise.
             “Soon. I promise,” Suho knelt down and locked his pinky with the younger boy. Xing Ke changed his hand’s position.
            “Make a copy?”
            Suho swiped his flat hand across Xing Ke’s smaller hand. “Copied.”
              The boy held up his thumb, “And you’ll stamp on it?”
              “Stamped,” the leader pressed his own thumb against the child’s.  Suho stood up and ruffled his hair. “I’ll see you soon then, buddy.”
              A few ‘bye’s later, Suho was out the door and off to practice, leaving the atmosphere in the dining room a bit lighter. Though the work of his was soon forgotten, when Lu Han looked up from his food to see Kris and Xiao Yang, leaning their foreheads against one another’s. Tao was glaring at his bowl of rice, feeling uncomfortable to be seated by the two, who had just shared a passionate kiss at the table.
              “I love you,” Kris whispered, but with the silence that he hadn’t seemed to notice, it was as loud as if he had just said it.
              “I...” Yang blushed, speaking in the best English she could muster. “I love you, too...”
              “You’re cute,” Kris pecked her nose. Yang blushed an even brighter shade of red and she opened to say something. Someone slammed their chopsticks on the table slightly–but hard enough to be heard as a slam–interrupting her.
             It was Lu Han.
             With a soft ‘I’m full’ Lu Han stood up and walked to the front door. Confusion flashed across Yang’s expression again, wondering what was wrong with her best friend. After Lu Han had slipped on his shoes and had grabbed a hat and sweatshirt, he stepped out of their apartment with a soft slam of the door. Yi Xing spoke then, the scorn and disdain towards Kris evident in his voice.
              “I suggest you might want to keep these cheesy, romantic moments for when you two are alone,” Yi Xing glared at Kris and this time, the glare hadn’t gone unnoticed by Yang. Kris avoided Yi Xing’s gaze, pretending to look out the glass doors that led to the balcony.
