Good Title vs. Bad Title

Making Mistakes the Right Way {a writing tip thread}

Titles are always the most important in a story. (No duh.) But sometimes we don't realize the importance of titles. Okay. Let me put it out there. TITLES. ARE. SO. VERY. IMPORTANT. They are the reasons why people click on your story and read them. Really. You need an attention-grabbing title or else nobody will click on your story. So how to make a good title?

Let's pretend we're using the cliche, arranged marriage plot.

1) Think about the central idea of your fanfiction.

2) Try to summarize your story in a few words. (No, do not use arranged marriage)

-Forced Love

3) Great, now that you have some words in a story, let's hit the thesaurus! Find synonyms for "forced" and "love"

4) I came up with: "artifical" or "stringent" for "forced" and for "love," I found "affection" and "ardor"

5) Play around with them! "Artifical Affection" "Artifical Ardor" "Strigent Affection" "Strigent Ardor"

6) Choose the best one, and you're done!

Bad titles for arranged marriage include:

-I'M IN AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE WITH _________?!

-WHAT DO I DO? I'M IN AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE!

-I'M MARRIED?!?!

-HE IS MY HUSBAND?!

These are some bad examples for arranged marriages. You get my drift, no?

This concludes this chapter's lesson. Hopefully you get how to make good titles and whatnot. I just want to leave a long author's note addressed to all 370+ unique subscribers of mine. (This includes you too!)

It's been three-hundred-sixty-five days on AFF, and honestly, I couldn't be any happier. Everybody has supported me throughout these three-hundred-sixty-five days. Honestly, the reason why I created an AFF account was only because my sister created an account here. (I used to read on soompi, but the community over there is dying away.) I didn't expect much from this site and honestly thought there were bad writers here on AFF. (I was exposed to really really good writing over on soompi.) But I don't know. One day, out of nowhere I began reading these fanfictions on AFF. And honestly I was blown away from the overwhelming amount of creativity in each story. So then this lead me to write my own fanfiction, From the Past. And as I began looking at more and more fanfictions, I was like, "oh! who's Infinite?" And then I just got blown away from how beautiful they looked. I don't know. My love for k-pop just happened there and then. I'm thankful for AFF, because without it, I don't think I would be into k-pop. If I wasn't into k-pop, I wouldn't have been able to get over this guy I've liked for three years. The odd thing is, I really really liked this boy but he rejected my confession. And after I got into k-pop, my "love" for him slowly faded away, and it widened my eyes to much better things than him. I'm thankful for AFF. And most of all, I'm thankful for all my readers on AFF. Without you guys, I don't think I'll be writing anymore. I don't think I will have confidence in my writer without you guys. Because of you, I write. So thank you. Thank you all. ♥

Chapter 12: i agree, i love it when the writer put the twist inside the story (esp if the story was mystery! and more love if it's nicely written!) i was like 'wait, so all the time i was wrong? w-wait what?'

Chapter 13: Hey um, I have a question. I have a title for my story, but it is already the title of a real book, can I still use it?

Chapter 11: i thought the second person point of view is when the main character talks to the reader from within the book?

Chapter 11: I apologize, but I must disagree. In fact, the second person narrative is widely enjoyed in literature. Although it is hard to write, it can result in something beautiful when executed well. Heck, one of my favorite novels is written in the second person point of view. I understand that a lot of these so-called "you" fics on AFF are a load of crap, and I feel sad because they are butchering the second person narrative. However, I do not believe you should immediate judge a fic by the narrative/point of view it takes.

Chapter 13: Wah, that's too bad. But I can understand why you'd want to stop if your schedule is getting busy. Well, I won't be unsubscribing, but I hope you all the best! :)

Chapter 5: I totally agree.
I immediately lose interest in the fan fiction if it has terrible grammar and not the right font.
You give great tips by the way, thanks!
I'm bilingual, do you think my English is bad?
