The Blind SideChange In the Road
"Have you planned on which college you're going to apply to, Jinki?" Jinki's mother asked as she chopped the vegetables perfectly and then inserted them into the pan.
The aroma of the food filled the small kitchen. Jinki played with the cloth of the small dining table that stood in the middle of the kitchen.
He shrugged. "Hm."
"So which one will it be?" Jinki's mother asked
"I don't know, Umma" Jinki mumbled
"Lee Jinki!" Jinki's mother yelled, dropping the knife to the counter. "Most of your friends started seeking for colleges at the age of 12 and you're graduating in a couple of months and you still don't know which college you're going into?!" she nagged
"No, Umma" Jinki mumbled back.
Jinki's mother shook her head then went back to her cooking. "Don't get pressure on your shoulders, okay? Tell you what, why don't you and your father search for colleges together as soon as he gets home?" she turned around.
Jinki shrugged again before standing up.
"Where are you going?" his mother questioned
"Out for a walk" he placed his jacket's hoodie on top of his head. He walked out of the kitchen without taking a second glance at his mother.
Jinki's mother breathed in and held in a long, sad sigh.
Jinki dug his hands inside his jacket's pockets. He looked around the dark night. There had been some sort of power failure in that street so Jinki followed the path the bright round moon lit for him. He looked up to see the many stars of the night. Living in such a busy city, he'd barely see any stars whatsoever. He let out a deep sigh.
"I just wish.. I wish my life could change. I want to be different. I feel like I've been living inside a box my entire life" Jinki talked to the winter air.
