PART III

The Dull One side story CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

Woohyun lifted his head from Yoomi's and raised his brows at her. "Why did you do that again?" he asked, pouting. "I just bared my heart to you, the first time I ever said I love you to a girl you know. And you slam a door in my face. Way to bruise my ego."

Yoomi bit her lip guiltily. "I'm sorry." she patted his cheek. "I didn't actually believe you then, you know."

"I figured." Woohyun muttered.

"You can't blame me." Yoomi shrugged. "I mean, you were always there for Chaekyung, not me. You were there with a bouquet of roses that I wished were for me but wasn't, and the only reason why I got to know you was because of Chaekyung. You were courting her, not me. How was I to believe you seriously liked me and it wasn't a joke?"

Woohyun blinked and looked at her. "Wait rewind, you said you wished the roses were for you." his eyes lit up. "So you mean to say that you liked me back too?"

Yoomi rolled her eyes and slapped his arm. "You're denser than Chaekyung. Yes duh I liked you." she harrumphed. "You didn't think it would be so easy to woo me if I didn't like you in the first place?"

Woohyun laughed and pressed a kiss to her temple. "Now that made everything much better." he grinned. "I thought it was one-sided at that time. I mean, slamming a door in my face, I could never have guessed."

Yoomi wrinkled her nose at him and made a face. "Fine fine. Go on with your story, I'm curious." she grinned.

He made a face back. "You were there for the rest of the times so why do you want to know?" he asked, twitching her nose. "I want to know things from your point of view." she smiled. "It's interesting. Especially the ego parts."

Woohyun rolled his eyes and played with her fingers distractedly. "Fine let's continue."

WOOHYUN'S POV

Here I was, standing in front of Jido Middle School once again with a bouquet of flowers.

The other students that were coming out from school were already immuned to my presence and they were utterly convinced that I was deeply in love with Chaekyung and utterly whipped. DENG. Wrong.

Today was extremely different from the other days I had waited here in front of the school. No no no, today, I was here not for Chaekyung, but for the one girl that had stolen my heart: Shin Yoomi.

The two of them walked out of school moments after the bell rang and my heart leaped at the sight of the girl I loved. You could not believe how that Sunggyu hyung had yelled in excitement when I told the Infinite boys that I had finally fallen in love with a girl.

They told me to give it my best since me, being Namstar and all, falling in love was something extremely rare and I should do everything I could.

Yoomi's eyes met mine as she neared and she looked wary, her footsteps getting smaller and it almost appeared as if she didn't want to see me there.

Chaekyung skipped towards me and grinned, wriggling her brows. I wondered if Yoomi and her were close enough to the extent of calling each other and sharing their thoughts. And if so, did Yoomi say anything about me?

"Hello Woohyun oppa~" Chaekyung sang. "Are those flowers for me?" she asked loudly and knowingly.

I cleared my throat. "I'm afraid not, Chaekyung. These are for Yoomi, I'm here for her today." Chaekyung let out a laugh and patted my shoulder encouragingly, giving me a nod.

Yoomi's eyes widened significantly as she gaped at me, her guard up. "You're joking." she choked.

Oh seriously, would I joke about this?

I took a step towards her and took her hand. She retracted her hand immediately but I held fast onto it, opening her palm. I placed the bouquet in her hand and wound her fingers around it. "It's for you, I'm serious." I whispered. "And I was also a hundred and one percent serious about what I said yesterday."

Yoomi's cheeks burned bright red and I was delighted by the thought that it was because of me.

She shook unsteadily and her lips, clearing . "Woohyun sshi, I think there's a limit to how a joke should be played on someone." she muttered. "Saying things like that as a joke is seriously unforgivable."

"I'm not joking!" I protested, annoyed. Why couldn't she believe me?

Chaekyung stepped in at this instant and placed a hand on Yoomi's shoulders. "Believe Woohyun oppa, Yoomi. I don't think he's lying." she smiled. "Since I'm not needed here anymore, I'll be going. You two have fun by yourselves~" and then she skipped away.

Yoomi watched her friend go with a sort of helplessless and I couldn't help but grin. Now she was all mine.

Or not.

Yoomi looked back at me uncertainly and bit her lip. "I have something on as well, Woohyun sshi, I'll be going now."

I grabbed onto her arm before she could go, frowning deeply. "Do I scare you that much?" I frowned. "I scare you so much that you can spend time with me when there are other people around and you can't stand being with me alone?"

I was glad to see the flicker of guilt in her eyes but those quickly hardened. "I'm really busy Woohyun sshi, I have to go."

And she tore herself away from me, running for the darn bus that had to come at that instant. "Woohyun sshi." I muttered in distaste. "Sounds horrible."

-----

If you would believe it, Shin Yoomi was a harder nut to crack that Lee Chaekyung.

Chaekyung had the decency to hang out with me when I was courting her, although she kept telling me that we were impossible together. Yoomi didn't even let me have a chance to talk to her when I went to find her.

The next day after I turned up at school and presented her with the bouquet, she actually took the back gate and I wasn't aware of it until Chaekyung told me as she got out of school and I was too late then.

And then it would be a whole game of cat and mouse or should I say hide and seek and she would avoid me at all costs, as if it was her life long mission and she treated it with utmost seriousness.

I was insanely tired.

Why did she run away from me all this time? Was I that scary? But something made me hang on and continue my pursuit: She hadn't told me she didn't like me back.

Unlike Chaekyung, she hadn't said anything about whether I stood a chance with her yet and the optimistic me decided to treat that as a sign that we had a chance togther. I believed that Yoomi wasn't the sort of girl who would lead me on and if she hadn't said anything about it, she must have some sort of feelings for me.

Which led me to the next question of why she was running away from me when she liked me back.

Insecurity.

I was a big time player in the romance field before I met her and I had so many girlfriends before her. It wasn't a surprise that there would be rumors about my flirty acts even before she met me and I had no doubt that I even dated a few of the girls in her class.

I couldn't help but wince at my past awful behavior. Way to go Namstar.

She had every reason to believe I wasn't true to my words especially when I had been courting Chaekyung this whole time. I suddenly felt sick when I thought of how I used the excuse of courting Chaekyung to see Yoomi everyday. It was a wrong choice.

Now I had to prove that I loved her, not anyone else. Her.

I prepared the Valentines event for a long time. With the Infinite boys and all, and not to mention this large hole in my pocket. I messaged Yoomi and was more than elated that she would agree to go out with me on Valentines day, I was whooping with joy.

She only allowed me time for a dinner and said she had to go home to help out with her younger brother's homework (excuses) but I was glad she even allowed me time on that day.

I remembered picking her up at her house and she was wearing a cute wine red mini dress paired with a white pearl collar necklace. She looked absolutely adorable and delectable, I wanted to kiss her right then.

I didn't have a car then, and all I could do was walk her to the near by restaurant where I had planned the entire event. It was a five star restaurant mind you, and I had to pay extra for the last minute booking and very nearly missed getting a table for us.

Yoomi looked slightly uncertain when we arrived at the restaurant. "Woohyun oppa, are you sure it's here?" she asked. I barely heard the question the first time because I was smiling too widely from her use of "oppa" again. "This place is seriously overated and expensive." she whispered again.

I took her hand and gave her a suave smile. "No worries, babe. I'll only give you the best." I winked. And I didn't know why she looked away, slightly disgusted.

We got a nice table by the window and I could see the Infinite boys hiding in the bushes outside. I owed them big time for this one.

Yoomi was looking through the menu and I could swear she was turning greener by the moment. "Yoomi, what's wrong?" I leaned over and asked.

She looked at me as if I was the stupidest guy on earth to ask that question and pointed at the menu. "Are you sure you want to eat here? The things are so expensive!" she hissed. "We could have gone to another eatery or something. You're only the first year in High School and I'm in Middle School. We don't have much money to spare."

"It's okay, I can afford it." I smirked and flipped my bangs in what I thought was a suave manner. That disgusted look appeared on her face again and I panicked.

I quickly signaled to Sungyeol outside and all the Infinite boys got into position. "Yoomi, look outside." I nudged her. She turned curiously and instantly, a romantic music was blasting from outside.

Dongwoo hyung jumped out from the bush and did a slow dance with Hoya, looking a little stupid but gah what could I do. The music ended and each of the Infinite boys held up their designated boards.

I love you Yoomi. Will you be my girlfriend?

Yoomi turned to me, shocked, and I was already on one knee and presenting her with a pair of promise rings which I had no doubt was charged more expensive than it actually costed.  "Yoomi, will you be my girlfriend?" I grinned up at her, confident that she would say yes. I mean, which girl would say no to this?

The answer to my question: My girl, apparently.

Yoomi stared at me for a few moments before she grabbed her clutch and stood up. "I'm sorry, I can't do this." she muttered. And then she ran out of the restaurant in those killer heels of hers.

I looked back and saw that all the Infinite boys were shocked since they had been hiding there for a long time and no doubt turned into some mosquito fantasy buffet. I was utterly shocked and my heart hurt madly. Did she really reject me?

I ran after her without thinking, dying to know why. I did everything I could, I was so romantic, so charming. A perfect bachelor from some korean drama. Why did she reject me?

Yoomi had run to the beach near her house and had taken off her heels, running barefooted. I caught up with her quickly and slammed her against a lamp post underneath a huge tree.

"Shin Yoomi." I panted, my mind in a whirl. "Stop running."

Yoomi was panting as well, her nice hairdo messy and sticking out in all directions. I thought she looked cute even then. "Why are you running away?" I asked, my voice cracking. "I think I deserve to know why you're rejecting me even after I did all that, don't you think? I mean I was the perfect guy tonight, absolutely flawless and-"

"Precisely that." she cut me off.

I stared at her, not understanding.

"You weren't acting like yourself." Yoomi whispered, not looking at me. "You were smirking and flipping your bangs, bringing me to places we don't belong and buying jewelry that cost more than you can afford."

She took a deep breath and looked at me. "This isn't the guy I want, Woohyun oppa. The guy I fell in love with is Nam Woohyun, not Namstar."

My heart stuck in my throat. "What do you mean?" I croaked. "I'm Nam Woohyun, I'm also Namstar."

She shook her head. "Namstar is the playboy image you've created for yourself. It's how you want others to think of you, it's how others see you. Nam Woohyun is the real you, the 16 year old boy who's sometimes clumsy and goofy and does terrible aegyo. That's the real you and you were nothing like that tonight."

I searched her eyes, finally understanding. I could even feel tears gathering in my eyes for goodness sake, as I made sense of what she said. "So you're saying you don't need me to be perfect?" I croaked. "Just me?"

"Yes." she chuckled softly and met my eyes. "I don't need those bouquets or gifts. I never did."

And then I lowered my head to hers and claimed her lips because there weren't anything else I could say. She responded and wrapped her arms around my neck as I hugged her close against the lamp post. I think I tasted a little of the salty tears in the kiss but I wasn't sure if it was mine or hers.

It was the best freaking kiss I ever had I wasn't kidding.

She finally broke away after a few minutes, the human need for air a little irritable at times like this, and she smiled at me with her eyes glittering brighter than the stars in the sky. "So if I promise you that when I'm with you, I'll be no one but Nam Woohyun, would you accept me?" I whispered.

And she nodded. "Yes."

------

Woohyun sighed contently and gazed at the lamp post. "This was where it had happened." he murmured. "I can't believe it's been two years."

"Almost two." Yoomi nodded, smiling. "I'm glad you ran after me that night."

"I'm glad I did too." Woohyun smiled, interlacing their fingers. He pulled his necklace from under his shirt and looked at the promise ring he wore everyday. Yoomi took hers out from under her dress as well, smiling.

"If only someone didn't make me return the first pair of rings I got, we'd make a much nicer pair of promise rings right now." Woohyun murmured playfully. Yoomi slapped his arm lightly. "That one didn't fit us much, don't you think? This one's much better." she admired the ring she had round her neck, the one that they had gotten from a flea market for an unbelievable cheap price.

"Oh by the way, you were saying how your friend was returning from the states?" Yoomi looked at Woohyun.

Woohyun nodded. "Yeah, his name is Myungsoo but we call him L. His grandmother just passed away so he's going to return here soon." he smiled. "I think he'll be a big hit in school, he's really handsome." He eyed Yoomi. "Don't you dare go looking at him just because he's the visual of Infinite alright?"

Yoomi laughed. "I won't." she shook her head. "I'm sure if he's as handsome as that, he would have had a girlfriend."

Woohyun looked doubtful. "The Infinite boys reckon he's gotten a caucasian babe but I don't think so, L isn't like that." he murmured. "I'm hoping he'll find a nice girl for himself when he returns to Korea. He deserves that much."

The couple stopped talking when a girl ran past them, pushing her glasses up her nose as she ran frantically. "Can't believe I fell asleep. Oh no!" she rushed off.

The couple watched as she went. "I think she just missed her Christmas dinner." Woohyun mused. "Come to think of it, she looks rather familiar. Oh! She's in my class. Lee Jaekyung, I think."

Yoomi's eyes rounded in surprise and she watched where Jaekyung went. *So that's Chaekyung's unnie she was talking about.*

"What's she like?" Yoomi asked Woohyun curiously.

"I don't know, I never talked to her before." Woohyun shrugged. "She's a wall flower through and through, only Kim Junki bothers her. But then again..." he looked where Jaekyung went. "Maybe it's someone like that who would be the right girl for L."

Yoomi smiled. "He'll have to determine that for himself wouldn't he?"

She glanced at her phone and gasped. "Omo, it's 12:03. We missed counting down." Woohyun shrugged and tightened his arms around her. "It's not to late for the Christmas kiss." he bent down.

"Merry Christmas 2011, Yoomi." he murmured, his eyes dropping to her lips.

Yoomi closed her eyes, smiling. "Merry Christmas, Woohyun oppa."

And they shared their Christmas kiss.

(Just to clarify, in Part I Woohyun mentioned a pretty girl Lee Jaekyung who transferred away. He doesn't know that Lee Jaekyung is the same Lee Jaekyung as the one in his class. And he doesn't know how old she is or what she looks like either, so he wouldn't know that even if she never transferred, she would have graduated Middle School.)

Hope you enjoyed this :D
