Step Three

Just Have Faith

As soon as the last bell of the day rang, Miteum hurriedly packed her belongings into her schoolbag. Gikwang noticed this and smiled in amusement, asking the frantic girl,

"Where are you in such a hurry to?"

"To see my brother, and then we're going to see if we can join BEAST!" Miteum enthusiastically replied, looking into the distance with determination.

"I wish you the best of luck then," Gikwang stated sincerely. Miteum thanked him and quickly departed to the room next door. She poked her head inside to find Dongwoon talking to a student with unusually spikey hair. Impatiently, Miteum shouted,

"Dongwoon, hurry up! Let's go!"

The older twin looked at his restless sister and turned to the boy he was talking to, apologizing and saying he had to leave. The other student waved it off, and then Dongwoon left to catch up with Miteum, who had already started walking down the hallway.

In what seemed no time at all, the two were in front of the door to the dance room. Confidently, Miteum slid the door open, allowing a wave of sound to come crashing out, inundating the hallways. Inside were three boys, all facing the mirrored wall and concentrated on their sharp movements. While Miteum was distracted by the boys' quick footwork, two more boys appeared beside her and peeked inside the room. Looking at them, Miteum immediately recognized Gikwang and the other guy to be the student Dongwoon was talking to earlier. The older twin looked at the latter in surprise and asked,

"Yoseob-ssi..?"

"Oh, hey, Dongwoon!" the boy--Yoseob, apparently--chimed.

The music from inside the room abruptly stopped, and the three inside halted their dancing to look at the crowd in the doorway. The one in the front of the formation gave Yoseob a hard look and yelled,

"Yah! Yang Yoseob, do you know what time it is? You're two minutes late!"

The baby-faced boy rolled his eyes and trudged inside, mumbling, "Yeah, yeah... Mrs. Im kept me behind after class to talk about my test scores. You know what she's like. You had her class last year, Doojoon Hyung."

Doojoon sighed and looked at the remaining people by the door.

"What are you doing, Gikwang? Get in here," Doojoon ordered, and nodded at the last two, asking, "And what are you here for?"

Before his sister could say anything rash, Dongwoon quickly answered, "We were wondering if we could join your group."

Doojoon stared at Dongwoon for a while, as if he were judging his dancing skills just by doing so. A few moments passed before Doojoon said,

"Fine. But if you're no good, I don't want to see your face around here ever again."

Dongwoon gulped silently, slightly afraid of the other's dark look in his eyes. Miteum nudged her brother in the side, nodding her head to tell him to go on. Nodding back, Dongwoon placed his backpack down by the doorframe and walked inside the room, noticing that every wall was lined with mirrors. At the front of the room was an iPod dock connected to two stereos on either side of it and a worn-out subwoofer in the center.

"I don't care what song you choose, but you better be good," Doojoon threatened, causing Dongwoon to feel even more nervous. Turning to the guy sitting next to the iPod dock, the older twin asked in a timid voice,

"May I..?"

The pretty-faced boy smiled and nodded; Dongwoon took the iPod out of the dock gently and replaced it with his own, choosing the song "Breaka Shaka" by Kangta. During the intro, he started with sharp poses in accordance with the down beat, and for the first verse, he glided across the floor, slowly nearing the mirrored wall with every step. When the song picked up the pace, Dongwoon showed off his tutting skills and included some popping--his strongest points. All of his momements were precise and clear, and Miteum nodded in approval of her brother's skills. At the end of the song, Dongwoon finished with a pose where his left hand was outstretched in the air, and his right was covering his face. In the mirror, Dongwoon could see Doojoon look at the pretty boy, who nodded slightly. He supposed those two were the ones in charge, but his thoughts were interrupted when Doojoon called,

"You're in."

Dongwoon smiled brightly and gave the members of BEAST a small bow as he thanked them. Glancing at the waiting Miteum in the doorway, Dongwoon said, "Um...my sister really wants to join. Could she try out, too..?"

Next to Doojoon, there was a boy with shaggy brown hair who shook his head stiffly at the leader, who seemed to have gotten the message as he replied,

"Sorry. She can't join."

"And why not?!" Miteum yelled, stomping inside the room, glaring furiously at Doojoon. Before she could get within kicking range of the leader, Dongwoon stopped his sister and nervously said,

"She's really good, so...please, just a few minutes."

The shaggy-haired boy laughed an empty laugh and asked the livid girl,

"What were you gonna dance to? 'Gee' by SNSD?"

"YOU WANNA GET YOUR FACE REARRANGED?!" Miteum screamed, struggling to break free from her brother's grip. Ignoring the pain from his sister's flailing limbs, Dongwoon tried to keep a calm tone as he reasoned,

"Please, just give her a chance. You won't regret it."

Yoseob, Gikwang, and the pretty-faced boy had uncomfortable expressions on their faces as Doojoon answered for them,

"I'm sorry, but like I said before, she can't join."

Stomping on Dongwoon's foot, Miteum tore free from her brother and quickly approached Doojoon. Dongwoon's heart began to palpitate as he anticipated his sister to sock him in the face, but to his surprise, she just yelled,

"You won't even give me a chance! Why can't I join?!"

The still-nameless boy beside Doojoon spoke slowly, sounding out every syllable,

"Because you're a girl."

"Junhyung..." Yoseob spoke up, but was interrupted soon after.

"What kind of retarded reason is that?!" Miteum shouted in frustration, and she pulled her tightly-clenched fist back, ready to hit. Right as she brought her hand down, Dongwoon managed to pull her away just in time. As Miteum's fist narrowly missed his face, Junhyung felt a gust of wind pass by, and he suddenly felt scared at the realization that if her fist had made contact, he probably would've ended up with at least a broken nose.

"Let me go, Dongwoon! I'll beat him up so bad that his own mom won't be able to recognize him!"

Ignoring the small chuckle from Gikwang, the pretty-faced member stood up from his spot next to the stereo and walked to Junhyung's side, calmly placating,

"I'm sorry, but she literally can't join because she's a girl. When we made BEAST, our application to the principal said that the group would only be comprised of boys. If we break that rule, the principal will suspend BEAST's activities for the rest of the year. I'm really sorry..."

At the boy's words, Miteum had gone silent, staring at the ground, which caused Dongwoon to worry and ask,

"Miteum..?"

Shrugging off her brother's hands from her shoulders, Miteum wordlessly walked away. Dongwoon quickly stopped her and whispered lowly,

"Hey, don't worry. I'll see if we can change the rules. And if we can't, then I'll quit."

Keeping her eyes on the ground, the younger shook her head and whispered back,

"Don't. If you quit, I'll feel guilty. I'll just wait for you outside the gates..."

And with that, she brushed past Dongwoon and left, shutting the door almost inaudibly behind her. The older twin looked at the closed door helplessly and turned back around, walking to the members of BEAST.

Practice ended around five o'clock, and when Dongwoon didn't find Miteum waiting for him, he began to think of the worst possible situations he wouldn't be surprised at her getting into. He searched the school building at least two times before thinking to call his sister's cell phone. When she picked up, he began bombarding her with questions.

"Miteum, where are you? Are you all right? Are you hurt?! If you got kidnapped, I swear, I'm going to have a heart attack. You're not being held ransom are y--?"

"Dongwoon, I'm fine! Jeez... I went home early," Miteum replied, and the older twin could practically see her rolling her eyes at him. Sighing in relief, Dongwoon tiredly mumbled,

"Okay. I'm going home now. I'll be there in about thirty minutes."

"Got it," Miteum replied simply, and then she hung up.

Dongwoon didn't get home until about seven o'clock because of the congested traffic on the roads, and when he stepped inside the apartment, he was greeted with emptiness. From under the door of the room he shared with Miteum, he could see the lights on and could hear music playing from their practically archaic stereo system. After heating his dinner in the microwave, Dongwoon took the ramen with him as he made his way to his and Miteum's room. Right as he opened the door, it slammed shut in his face, and he heard Miteum yell,

"Oh, my gosh, Dongwoon! Knock first..!"

The older twin sighed, looking up at the ceiling, and waited for fifteen seconds before asking,

"Can I come in now?"

"Yeah," Miteum answered, and he dragged his aching feet inside the room, sitting down on the bottom bunk of their bed after turning the music down slightly, so as not to wake their sleeping father in the room next door. On the top bunk, Miteum was typing on the family laptop as she asked,

"What took so long?"

His mouth full of noodles, Dongwoon replied dully, "Traffic."

Finishing his small dinner, the older set his bowl on the sidetable and stood up, resting his arms on the edge of the top bunk, and looked at his sister with a tired expresion, saying,

"I asked the guys about changing the rules. They said there was no way... Junhyung Hyung seemed pretty dead-set against you joining the whole time, though..."

"Oh, the dog-hair boy?" Miteum asked bitterly. Dongwoon tried to smile as he encouraged,

"But Hyunseung Hyung--the pretty guy--told me you could try to form a girls' dance group."

"No... I really wanted to dance with you," the younger sighed, and she turned to face the wall, pulling the covers over her head. At a loss for words, Dongwoon slowly headed to the bathroom to change and softly whispered to his sister,

"Good night..."

Gah... Sorry for ending on a kind of sad note. D': I would've included more, but this chapter would've ended up being too long... @__@ Also, I'm really sorry I haven't updated in a while... I had mid-term exams last week, so a lot of my time was dedicated to studying. GASP. STUDYING? xD I know, right? You study?! Apparently, yes. It's a new tactic I've picked up to actually get good grades on my tests! OTL Anyway...

The lovely poster for this chapter is by LuvSHINee~ She's pretty talented, so head on to her poster request shop if you need one!

So BEAST appeared! All of them! Just like I said! :DDD Which is a first. Junhyung is... Haha. Yeah... I love him, though, so don't get in the mindset that he's a super stuck-up jerk. Well, actually... Nah. I'll just let you judge him for yourselves~ xD

OH! SAT WORDS FTW. Did anyone notice them? :DDD No? Oh...well...I used them... ; ~;

Haha. And I lol'd at Junhyung talking about SNSD's "Gee." He actually likes that song in real life. xDDD I have no idea why, but he just gets in such a good mood as soon as he hears it. XD

Notes! ^^ There's always "that one person," so don't bash them if they don't know the terms! Adding "-ssi" to a person's name shows formality and respect; "hyung" is used by boys to address or refer to an older brother or older brother figure. Tutting is a form of street dance, including arm (and sometimes just hand) movements that represent geometric figures. It's becoming more and more popular nowadays, so look out for it! (Search "The Art of Tutting" on YouTube, and go to the video by marvelousmoon. That's tutting at its best. xD) And lastly, I have no idea what kind of dancing Dongwoon is best at, so please forgive me if tutting and popping are actually his worst points. @__@ I just recently got into BEAST. I'm sorry... >.<

All right, enough of my pointless rambling. Time for...

Chapter 6: WHY IS THIS FIC SO UNDERRATED? I kept laughing so many times and it's very ... I don't know, because I've got an older brother and we're pretty dorky together, so I really could relate to Dongwoon and Miteum, since I am actually the fiery, hot tempered sister, but not as much as hers, while my brother is very nice like Dongwoon ... But back to my point!! Omg, I love this fic, and you know I really like something I don't really know the members from beast. Seriously, I read three chapters not knowing that dongwoon looked like. And I love Yoseob's really cute character when he and gikwang had visited their home, he could really pass off as a little kid!!! But yeah, it's been such a long time since you've updated, as well as Prank Wars...! But I always like the cross dressing plot just as long as it doesn't get too tacky, and your FIC isn't tacky at all. Knowing from many dramas and movies, somehow I think she'll end up with Junhyung. So yeah!!! You gotta update, and my comments are usually more formal and much more ... Well, more sophisticated sounding than this, but it's 2am and I can't sleep as I am in too much in holiday mode ...
AND AGAIN, I REALLY LOVE YOUR FIC AND MITEUM AND DONGWOON'S BROTHER-SISTER RELATIONSHIP. And on another point, not many authors can pull off the latter type of relationship so well ...
UPDATE SOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNN (and as you can see, I'm always so high if I stay up really late...)

@anadd23: Hello~ ^^ Haha, I was debating over who should find out first, but in my head it made sense for Gikwang to be first since he knew Miteum longer. ^^U And I lol'd at the last part of your comment. Hahaha. I like to think Dongwoon takes after his mom~ XDDD Thank you for reading and commenting~ ^^<br />
