Step Two

Just Have Faith

For the duration of the thirty-minute bus ride and the ten-minute walk to the school afterwards, Miteum had her headphones on, loudly blaring MBLAQ's song "Again," and she was dancing along with it. Even as she and her brother passed the gates to Anyang High School, the former continued dancing, albeit her movements were restricted to her upper body, as she had to walk as well. At one part of the song, Miteum punched her arms outwards and accidentally hit another student's arm. Surprised, Miteum stopped dancing and, unaware of the volume of her voice, yelled,

"SORRY!"

The boy she hit forced out a chuckle and nodded in response, and Miteum continued dancing. Watching the girl leave, the boy smiled in amusement and rubbed his arm where he had been punched, murmuring,

"Ah, that hurt..."

Glancing around, Dongwoon noticed people were looking at them and pulled his sister's headphones off so that they rested around her neck. Right as she was about to yell at him, he pulled Miteum away by her ear so that they were hidden behind a nearby tree. Keeping his voice down, Dongwoon chastised,

"Yah! Pay attention to your surroundings! People are already looking at us weirdly!"

"Oppa, that hurt. Aishi..." Miteum mumbled, rubbing her now-red left ear. Lightly poking the other's forehead, Dongwoon said through clenched teeth,

"Don't cuss! Did you even listen to what I said earlier?"

"Yeah, yeah. I'll pay more attention. Jeez, really..." the younger twin murmured, placing her headphones back on properly, and walked away. Dongwoon sighed and helplessly looked up at the sky, mouthing, "Why me?" He then quickly left to follow his sister into the school building. After finding their shoe lockers (which were conveniently side-by-side) and changing their shoes, the two siblings compared their classroom numbers.

"What..? Why are we in different classes?" Miteum groaned, obviously not happy with the current situation. Dongwoon was upset as well, but placated,

"Well, our rooms are just next to each other. And we can eat lunch together like always, okay?"

Miteum replied with a mumbled "Fine..." The two then walked down the corridor, and when they reached Miteum's classroom, Dongwoon patted her back and comforted,

"You'll be fine. And put your headphones away before they get taken up and we have to steal them back again."

The younger twin rolled her eyes at the memory but nodded anyway. Smiling, Dongwoon held his fist up and whispered, "Fighting!"

Laughing a little, Miteum held her fist up as well and mouthed the words back to her older twin. Just then, the teacher (Miteum assumed) approached her and asked if she was the transfer student. Shyly, Miteum nodded, and the teacher smiled and said,

"I'm your History teacher, Mr. Kim. Don't be nervous."

Don't be nervous? She'd never felt so nervous as she did now. Why? This was the first time in her entire life that she and Dongwoon wouldn't be in the same class. Sure, they fought a lot, but he was closer to Miteum than dancing--and that was saying something. Dongwoon was her older brother--her twin. They were practically inseparable.

How could she not be nervous?

Before she knew it, Mr. Kim had opened the door and motioned for her to follow. As the two entered the room, the students inside slowly ceased their chatting and focused their attention on the new student. Mr. Kim announced,

"Class, we have a new student joining us today. She just transferred from Seoul Private High."

The teacher stood back, letting Miteum introduce herself. She took a quick glance at the students in the room, who were all looking back at her, and as an effect, her face suddenly felt warmer than normal. Quietly, Miteum said,

"My name is Son Miteum. Nice to m-meet you."

She mentally groaned at her stumble, wondering why she couldn't just act normally. Silently sighing, Miteum thought to herself, "So much for good first impressions."

"Well, you can sit next to Gikwang. Gikwang, raise your hand for Miteum, please," Mr. Kim said and proceeded to call attendance. Miteum bowed politely to Mr. Kim and looked up to see a boy at a desk by the window with his hand raised. She slowly made her way to the desk before sitting in the seat next to 'Gikwang.' After taking a pencil and notebook out from her backpack, Miteum snuck a glance at the boy beside her and felt a sense of déjà  vu. Softly, she whispered to him,

"Um, excuse me..."

"Yes?" Gikwang whispered back, smiling lightly. Miteum observed his face again before continuing,

"Are you...the guy I accidentally hit earlier?"

Gikwang's face lit up in recognition as he answered, "Oh, it is you! You seemed like such a different person up there, so I thought you had an identical twin or something."

Biting her bottom lip, Miteum tried not to laugh at the irony of the other's statement. Gikwang glanced at the teacher to make sure he hadn't heard them talking and asked Miteum,

"What song were you listening to?"

"'Again' by MBLAQ," she replied, feeling more comfortable because of the boy's friendly smile, which widened as he commented,

"That's cool. I like MBLAQ, too."

Miteum didn't know what to say in response, so she just smiled and nodded. Mr. Kim then started the day's lesson, gaining everyone's attention. The first three classes of the day passed without further incident. There wasn't enough time between classes for Miteum to visit Dongwoon next door, so she stayed in the classroom and made small talk with Gikwang. Sometimes, other students would talk to Gikwang, and Miteum didn't want to bother them, so at those times, she would stare out the window--just thinking.

Gikwang seemed pretty popular; students would even pass by the room just to greet him. Miteum wondered what it was like to be popular. True, everyone knew her back at Seoul High, but it wasn't for anything good. She also wondered how Dongwoon was doing--if he was being treated kindly. At Seoul High, they were always teased for not looking like everyone else, and there once was a rumour that they were adopted. That rumour quickly died, but only because Miteum had punched the person who started it in the face. No one seemed to care about that here in Anyang, so Miteum assumed her older brother was fine. At least, that's what she was hoping.

After what felt like forever, it was finally time for lunch. As everyone was dispersing across the school, Gikwang turned to Miteum and told her,

"If you don't have anyone to eat lunch with, you can eat with me and my friends. I'm sure they wouldn't mind."

Miteum was a little surprised at the invitation, but she politely declined, "Oh, that's okay. I'm eating with my Oppa."

Tilting his head in curiosity, Gikwang asked, "You have a brother here?"

"Yeah. Well, actually, he's my twin. He's older, but only by five minutes. We look a lot alike, but he's a lot taller than me," Miteum replied all in one breath. She honestly didn't know why she was telling him all this. Maybe it was just a natural response now, since people always asked for that information when the fact that she had a twin was mentioned.

"Twins, huh? That's pretty cool. Well, I won't delay you any longer, so go on," Gikwang said, his friendly smile forever patient. Miteum gave him a small smile in return and left the classroom, finding Dongwoon already waiting outside. Seeing his sister, Dongwoon asked,

"Hey, where's your lunch?"

Miteum was silent for a moment and then groaned, "I'm so stupid! I left it at home!"

"Seriously?" Dongwoon rubbed the back of his neck and mumbled, "I left mine at home, too..."

The two siblings remained silent, looking at the floor. A few moments passed, and they glanced at each other, bursting out in laughter. After calming down, Dongwoon asked,

"So...what do you want to do now?"

"Walk around?" Miteum suggested. Dongwoon gave his younger twin a weird look and replied,

"For thirty minutes?"

Miteum just shrugged and smiled, walking down the hallway, and Dongwoon soon followed, shaking his head slightly. With no particular destination in mind, they meandered about the building, occasionally making comments here and there. From the third floor, they could see the soccer field and the school garden, where a few students were eating their lunches that hadn't been left at home. There was also a cafeteria in the school, but the Son twins only had enough money to pay the fare for the bus ride back to Seoul. Past the music room on the first floor, there was a bulletin board covered with posters and flyers, all trying to get people to join various clubs and organizations. The two siblings scanned the board for a dance team, or even just a club, but only faced disappointment when they found none. Just then, two girls walked by, chatting loudly. The first one squealed,

"Kyah! They were so cool! They're better than 2PM!"

"I know, right? They aren't Anyang's dance team for nothing!" exclaimed  the second.

"Excuse me!" Miteum called out, approaching the two girls. "Who, exactly, are you talking about?"

The two other girls blinked in surprise, and the first one answered,

"BEAST, of course. Are you...new here?"

Miteum gave a sheepish laugh and replied, "Yeah...I am, actually."

"Oh."

They blinked again; the second girl smiled and said, "Welcome to Anyang High! Anyway, yeah, BEAST is our school's dance team."

"Where do they practice?" Miteum asked a little hesitantly. The first girl answered this time, pointing down the hallway,

"In the dance room. It's the very last room on the right. They meet every day after school."

"Oh, I see. Thank you very much!" Miteum happily said, bowing to the two girls, who giggled and replied,

"No problem. And you'll love Anyang High!"

The three waved goodbye to each other as they departed, and Miteum returned to Dongwoon's side with a grin on her face. A knowing look on his own face, the older unnecessarily asked,

"What are you thinking?"

"We should try out for BEAST! I bet we could make it!" Miteum confidently declared, making her brother laugh. Soon, lunch had ended, and they had to return to their classrooms. As Miteum sat down in her seat, Gikwang arrived as well and noticed her goofy grin. Smiling, he asked,

"Something good happen?"

Miteum nodded and replied, "I just heard about the school's dance team, BEAST."

"Oh, really? What, exactly, did you hear?" Gikwang wondered, still smiling.

"Something about how they were better than 2PM, but I'm not really sure about that," Miteum answered. Gikwang nodded thoughtfully and said,

"That's cool."

Looking at her desk partner weirdly, Miteum remarked, "You think everything is cool."

"Hey, it's like you know me already!" Gikwang  exclaimed. The two laughed quietly and then turned their attention to Mr. Park, the English teacher, who was giving a lecture on the importance of crossing language barriers and how it "promoted peace throughout the world." All the while, Miteum tried to pay attention to the lesson, but she was too preoccupied in thinking about what the members of BEAST were like.

LOL This chapter is long... But that's not why I'm laughing. I'm laughing at how much irony I stuffed in this chapter. Anyway...what did you think? :DDD I hope everyone liked it~

AND I'M SORRY! I said BEAST would appear here, and Gikwang was the only one who showed up. Well...BEAST technically did appear... XD;;; They'll show up FOR SURE in the next chapter! Oh, and Gikwang... Hm, I don't really like him. LOL Please don't stone me. >.< But, hm, I thought he was the only one who'd fit this role. Anyway~ Time for the part you guys will like!

Chapter 6: WHY IS THIS FIC SO UNDERRATED? I kept laughing so many times and it's very ... I don't know, because I've got an older brother and we're pretty dorky together, so I really could relate to Dongwoon and Miteum, since I am actually the fiery, hot tempered sister, but not as much as hers, while my brother is very nice like Dongwoon ... But back to my point!! Omg, I love this fic, and you know I really like something I don't really know the members from beast. Seriously, I read three chapters not knowing that dongwoon looked like. And I love Yoseob's really cute character when he and gikwang had visited their home, he could really pass off as a little kid!!! But yeah, it's been such a long time since you've updated, as well as Prank Wars...! But I always like the cross dressing plot just as long as it doesn't get too tacky, and your FIC isn't tacky at all. Knowing from many dramas and movies, somehow I think she'll end up with Junhyung. So yeah!!! You gotta update, and my comments are usually more formal and much more ... Well, more sophisticated sounding than this, but it's 2am and I can't sleep as I am in too much in holiday mode ...
AND AGAIN, I REALLY LOVE YOUR FIC AND MITEUM AND DONGWOON'S BROTHER-SISTER RELATIONSHIP. And on another point, not many authors can pull off the latter type of relationship so well ...
UPDATE SOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNN (and as you can see, I'm always so high if I stay up really late...)

@anadd23: Hello~ ^^ Haha, I was debating over who should find out first, but in my head it made sense for Gikwang to be first since he knew Miteum longer. ^^U And I lol'd at the last part of your comment. Hahaha. I like to think Dongwoon takes after his mom~ XDDD Thank you for reading and commenting~ ^^<br />
