This went on for a few days without a hitch. I was able to sit there next to him silently, although he continued to try tirelessly with me. He seriously wanted me to talk to him. But… I-I just can’t!

One day after class AJ grabbed my hand before I could run from the class,

“Wait,” I froze. “Can you come with me? I want to play something for you. Will you listen?” I was unable to move or think. Finally I was able to come to my senses. I nodded slowly and he smiled. “Great! Come with me.” He stood up and never let go of my hand.

We went down the hall untill we came to an emty room with a piano. He sat down and streatched his fingers. I stood to the side and looked down at the keys.

“Okay, so this is just something I’ve been working on recently. Right now it’s just a tune. I have some lyrics rolling around, but I’m still working on that. Will you listen?” he looked at me intently and I blushed. I nodded quickly and he smiled, “Great.” He looked down at the piano as he played a few keys. “Okay.” He ran his fingers over the keys gently once before playing his song. I listened intently to the sweet music that was produced. I closed my eyes as he played. It really was something beautiful.

He was composing something truly beautiful.

Suddenly he stopped,

“That’s all I have so far… It’s still a work in progress, but I just wanted to get an opinion.” I opened my eyes and smiled. “Do you like it?” He leaned in intently. I smiled and nodded,

“I-It’s… beautiful.” I finally let myself speak to him. He froze for a moment at the sound of my voice, but then he smiled.

“You spoke to me.” He said and I blushed. I nodded and looked away. It was silent for a moment, “Why are you so shy with me. I keep trying to figure it out, but nothing makes sense.” I looked at him and thought. Then I saw the piano. I gestured for him to move. He was startled at first, but quickly moved over. I took a seat beside him and layed my hands on the keys gently. I messed around for a moment, familiarizing myself with it and tuning out everything around me.  Then I set into a familiar tune. I began to play a song by him; a song only a fan would know. It sounded a little strange from me, but it sounded much the same. It was a tune that was unmistakable.

I pressed the keys slowly and felt him stiffen beside me. It was the opening that gave it away. 0330 is unmistakable because of the steady opening. I continued playing untill I finished the song. Finally I came to the last notes and played them with all my heart. When I finished, silence reighned throughout the room. Not a sound was made. I reached up slowly and pulled the cover over the keys and it made a sharp clunk as I pulled it down, resonating all around us.

Silence again.

I sighed and went to stand,

“That’s why you never spoke to me?” I stopped mid-stand and turned to look at him. He was staring intently into my eyes. I gulped and nodded slightly. “You knew who I was?” I nodded. He searched my eyes for something more. He turned and laughed slightly, running a hand through his hair. I tilted my head in confusion. “Thank you,” he turned to me, “Thank you for being my fan.” I smiled back at him, bitterness making its way into my thoughts. Of course. Now I’m just a fan. Now that he knows, that’s all I’ll ever be. “But I hope we can be more than that.” He continued. I looked back up at him quickly with wide eyes. “Why don’t you talk to me? I want to know you. Let’s be friends. I’ve been trying to do that for months now. But you just kept pulling away.” I blushed and looked away. “Please talk to me.” I sighed,

“Fine.” I could feel his smile
