Nightmares

Destiny

It was morning and I woke before Minsoa did. Her head still lay on my chest, and her small hand gripped my shirt. She breathed evenly, and I smiled down at her. She had an angel like glow to her face, and all the cuts and bruises she had from last night were gone thanks to Daehyun. I slowly shifted from under her. I was happy that I didn’t wake her. I headed to the bathroom, for my morning routines. I got into the shower, and began to wash myself. It was strange having a human stay here, but it was a good strange. It made thing different, and it was a change we all needed.

Narrator.

While Himchan was in the bathroom showering, Minsoa was in a dream world. She had a small smile on her face, and as she dreamed, she saw beautiful things. Unicorns, and butterflies filled the meadow she sat in. Cherry blossoms filled the trees, and every time the wind gently blew the wonderful scent of the flowers filled the air. Minsoa was happy and laughing playing with her unicorn friend, when everything quickly became dark. The flowers began to wither away and die. Fire surrounded Minsoa and her unicorn. The unicorn tried to protect her from the darkness that came upon them, but the poor creature fell victim to it’s evil. The unicorn was condemned to death, and became a pile of ash at Minsoa’s feet. Her eyes filled with tears, and she began to cry. The darkness laughed and several shadow figures circled around her.

“You know too much! You must die, besides the fact that keeping you alive will condemn our kind to hell.” One of the shadow figure spoke.

“Leave her out of this!” Himchan’s voice bellowed across the darkness. At first all Minsoa could see was a pair purple glowing eyes, and as they came closer, she began to see all of Himchan’s features. He bared his fangs at the shadows, and in a blink of an eye he was at her side. He embraced her in his arms, and growled at the shadow figures. He tried to protect her as best as he could, but he was out numbered. She watched as the shadows attacked him, slowly bringing him closer to death. Tears filled her eyes.

“Oppa!” She cried, and the shadows ended him…

Minsoa jumped up from her sleep. She lifted her head from the pillow and screamed “Oppa!” and then looked around at her surroundings. She was in a bedroom that was very tidy and neat. The colors of the room were gray, black, and white. It was modern looking too. She propped herself up on her elbows, lying down on her stomach. Her hair was messy, and in her face. She tried to remember what happened and how she got here, but couldn’t. Tears were falling from here eyes, and she hadn’t even noticed. Himchan came running out of the bathroom, with only gym shorts on. His hair dripped from the water, and he looked over to Minsoa.

He went to her side, “are you alright?” He asked, fixing her hair.

“Oppa.” She said softly, and threw herself on him.

Himchan was taken back by the sudden action, but he wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly. She was smaller than the average seven-year-old girl. She was the size of a five year old.

“What’s wrong?” He asked looking down on her. “Did you have a nightmare?”

She nodded in his chest, and pressed her face against it.

“Do you want to talk about it?” He asked, but he already knew what had happened in her dream. He had read her mind, and knew why she was upset.

“Aniyo.” She muttered, and her stomach growled.

Himchan smiled, “I think someone’s hungry.” He said looking her in the eyes, “How about we get dressed and I make you breakfast. Does that sound good?”

Minsoa nodded, and he picked her up as he stood up. “I got you some of your things,” He said, and brought her over to the luggage. He placed her down on the floor, and opened the luggage. Inside were her clothes, and other stuffed animals.

“Can I pick my outfit?” She asked shyly.

He turned to her, “Ne, you can.” He said ruffling her hair. “I’ll be in the bathroom, just come in when your dressed.” He turned towards the bathroom and walked in it.

Taking care of a child was something new to him, but he didn’t think it was going bad. He thought he was doing a good job so far. Himchan slipped a shirt on over his head, and fixed his black hair. He looked into the mirror, making sure every hair was in place. He heard little footsteps come through the door, and looked over to see Minsoa, I a little pink shirt, and pink skirt. She had a headband in her hands, and looked up at him.

“You need to brush your teeth.” He said, and she stared at him blankly.

“Oppa, I don’t have a tooth brush.” She said, looking down at her feet.

“That’s okay, because I have an extra new one.” He said, looking in the medicine cabinet for it. When he found it, he took it and opened the package for her. Himchan then handed her the toothbrush. “Come on, let’s get moving. I know you’re hungry, and the longer you take to get ready, the longer you have to wait to eat.”

Minsoa frowned, and walked over to him. She was a little to short to reach the sink, but managed to on the tips of her toes. Himchan helped her with the toothpaste, and then he put some on his toothbrush. They both started to brush their teeth at the same time.

He watched her brush her teeth, and he thought to himself, “She is a really good kid.”

He then bared his fangs, brushing them too. Minsoa glanced up at him, and saw the pointed sharp razor like teeth. Her eyes widened, she didn’t think they looked that long and sharp last night. She let out a small gasp, and Himchan looked down at her. She stopped brushing her teeth, and hung open. Her eyes were wide, and she stared at his mouth.

“What?” He asked confused, but then he realized that she was staring at his fangs. He bent over the sink and spit out the toothpaste in his mouth. Rinsing his toothbrush he, took some mouth wash and swished it around in his mouth, then spitting it out as well. Minsoa went back to finishing brushing her teeth, she couldn’t reach the sink, and was having a hard time trying to spit out the toothpaste.

Himchan realized this, and picked her up to help her out. She spit out the toothpaste, and rinsed her toothbrush. Himchan poured some mouthwash for her, and she put it in mimicking what he did. She made a face of disgust, and her eyes began to water. She started to whine, and her face scrunched up tightly. The mouthwash burned the inside of .

Himchan laughed at her reaction, “You can spit it out, you don’t have to swish it for as long as I did.”

She quickly spit out the mouthwash, “Bleeack!” she said.

“We’ll go to the store and get you a different flavor, one that doesn’t burn your mouth. How’s that?” He asked her.

She nodded up and down, and smiled at what he said.

“Let’s go down and make breakfast.” Himchan said, taking her by the hand and walking her downstairs.

The rest of the boys were already down there, doing their daily routine since it was a weekend. Minsoa clung to Himchan when she saw the other boys. She didn’t know that there were others in the house. Daehyun was the first to look over; he was holding a book in his hands. He closed it and got up from the couch. Daehyun walked towards Himchan and Minsoa, he didn’t know why, but he wanted to see how she was.

“Hi hyung.” He said with his smooth velvet voice, “Hello Minsoa.” He said looking down at her kindly. She hid her face in Himchan’s side, and grabbed onto him tightly.

“She’s a bit shy Daehyun, don’t take it to offense.” Himchan said to him.

“I'm not. I already knew she was,” He said back to Himchan, and then bent down to be at eye level with Minsoa. “It’s alright. I’m Daehyun, I won’t hurt you.” His voice was warmer than it ever had been.

“It’s alright Minsoa, Daehyun won’t hurt you. He’s a good friend of mine. You can trust him.” Himchan said convincing her to look at Daehyun.

“Are you the same as Himchan Oppa?” She muttered softly.

“What?” Daehyun asked confused and looked up at Himchan.

“She means, are you a vampire like me,” Himchan said telepathically to Daehyun.

“Oh, Ne… I’m a vampire too.” Daehyun said to her kindly, “But I don’t believe in hurting humans, especially little girls.” He said playfully poking her nose.

“Oppa,” Minsoa said,

“Ne,” Both Daehyun and Himchan replied.

She looked up at Himchan, “Are your friends like you?” she asked pulling on his hand.

Himchan looked down at her kindly, “Ne, all of us who live in this house are vampires, Yongguk hyung is a pure blood. The rest of us are noble vampires.” Himchan explained to Minsoa.

“You’re the only human here.” Daehyun said to her with a smile.

“That makes me special!” She said proudly clapping her hands. She was starting to warm up to Daehyun.

Daehyun couldn’t help but smile, “That’s right. You are.” He said.

“Himchan Oppa, I’m hungry.” She whined.

“Ne, Ne, Let’s make some food.” He replied, and they walked into the kitchen. Daehyun followed them watching the little girl’s every move. He couldn’t help but smile at how cute, and bubbly she was. Even after everything she’s been through. Yongguk was in the kitchen when they entered. His eyes were blood red, and he had a glass with a thick dark red substance in it. He drank from the glass, and looked down at Minsoa with a piercing gaze. She saw the fire in his eyes, and clung to Himchan, hiding her face in his side once again. Yongguk’s fangs showed, as he his lips. He didn’t say anything; all he did was stare at Minsoa.

Himchan could tell she was scared, “Hyung, could you not do that around her.”

“She’s gonna have to get use to it.” Yongguk said coldly, and stared at Minsoa.

“I know but she’s little, and it’s too soon for this.” Himchan said, “It’s only just for now, let her get accustomed to our ways.”

Yongguk looked at him with hard eyes, “Whatever.” He said leaving the room, taking his glass with him.

“What are we going to do with him?” Himchan said to Daehyun.

“Nothing, he’ll come around. Minsoa, what would you like to eat?” Daehyun said, and he looked down at the tiny girl.

She shrugged her shoulders, “Eomma always surprised me.” She said, and then a frown formed on her face. Tears started to build up in her eyes. Daehyun saw that she was upset; he crouched down to her height, and pulled Minsoa in his chest. She started to cry.

“I want Eomma and Appa.” She cried, clenching Daehyun’s shirt tightly in her hands.

“I know, I know, but everything is going to be alright. I know it’s hard now, but it will get better I promise.” Daehyun said with his velvet voice.

Himchan looked at Daehyun, and the both of them met eyes. “I don’t know what to do to get her through this.”  Himchan projected into Daehyun’s mind.

I know, but there is nothing else we can do. We just have to be here to comfort her through this.” Daehyun thought back, and Himchan read it.

“I’ll start on the food.” Himchan said beginning to prepare Minsoa’s breakfast.

I don’t know why, but I can feel the pain she is in.” Daehyun thought to himself.

Daehyun wiped the tears from Minsoa’s eyes, “Now don’t cry you’re making your eyes all red and puffy.”

She sniffled, “Oppa,” She said putting her arms around him, “Don’t let go.”

“I won’t.” He said holding her in his arms. Daehyun began to feel what Himchan, does.  He began to love her, and felt extremely protective of her.

After Himchan made Minsoa breakfast, Daehyun took her outside for a walk. They went to the park, and played on the jungle gym. He pushed her on the swings, and they bonded. The rest of the day went by well, and Daehyun took her for ice cream on the way home.

“Aww, you’re an amazing big brother.” The lady in the ice cream shop said to Daehyun.

He was caught off guard when she said this, “Oh, yeah… I get that a lot.” He said trying to seem normal.

“Oppa, Kamsahamnida” Minsoa said with a smile on her face after he handed her the ice cream.

Daehyun couldn’t help but smile. Every time she did, it warmed his heart. They walked home together, as she slowly ate her ice cream. When they reached the mansion, Himchan scolded Daehyun for feeding her ice cream before dinner. While the two of them were arguing, Zelo approached Minsoa.

“Ay Yo!” He said, “Do you wanna play a game?”

Minsoa looked away from him shyly. “Aww come on, I wont hurt you I promise.” Minsoa still didn’t say anything, “alright alright you can pick the game. Does that sound fair.” Zelo said, showing her his aegyo.

Minsoa nodded, and Zelo gently took her by the hand to the family room. They began to play a princess game.

“I’m a princess,” Minsoa said to Zelo, “Oppa you’re a unicorn.”

“I’m a what?” Zelo asked confused rasing an eyebrow.

“A unicorn, it’s a magical animal like a horse, but with a magical horn on their head.” Minsoa explained with a cute little smile on her face. Her eyes were large and round, and Zelo couldn’t help but give in to her cuteness. He put her on his back, and began to run around the room. Minsoa laughed, as Zelo made horse sounds. Then the harmless game turned into a tickle fight. Minsoa didn’t have a chance against Zelo. He was bigger, stronger, and faster. He pinned her on the ground and tickled her, Minsoa laughed uncontrollably. She shrieked and screamed for help between laughs.

“Oppa! Stop! Stop Oppa!” She yelled, and continued to laugh. As night had begun to fall, Himchan walked into the family room.

“Zelo, let her go. She needs to go to bed.” Himchan said.

“Aww hyung it’s not that late.” Zelo pleaded, he really enjoyed spending time with Minsoa.

“It is for her. She’s only seven. Minsoa come with me it’s time for bed.”

“Ohh… but I want to play with Zelo Oppa more.” She whined, but still obeyed Himchan’s orders.

“I know but he will be here all day tomorrow, you can see him in the morning, but right now it’s time for bed.” He said, taking her by the hand and leading her upstairs to his room. He got her ready for bed, and tucked her in his bed.
“We will get you your own room soon.” He said, “For now you will sleep in here with me, okay,”

“Ne, Oppa.” Minsoa said.

“I’m going hunting with the rest of the boys, I’ll be back soon. Just go to sleep.”

“Oppa I don’t want to be alone! Don’t leave me!” She begged.

“You’re not going to be alone, Daehyun will be here. Now just go to sleep, I promise I’ll be back very soon.”

“Can’t I stay awake until you do?”

“No, you need to sleep. Now close your eyes.” Himchan said, and Minsoa sighed. He kissed her on the forehead, and left the room.

Himchan left with all the boys except Daehyun. Daehyun wanted to stay behind to keep an eye on Minsoa. He offered to do this because he knew that Himchan hadn’t fed in a few days and his instincts were starting to get the best of him. Once the boys left for their hunt. Daehyun went up to his room, and went to take a shower. Minsoa had fallen asleep despite her wishes. She drifted into dreamland once again. Like before her dream started off beautiful, and then quickly became a nightmare. She stirred in her sleep, unable to wake from it. When she finally did, she jumped up out of bed, grabbing her unicorn stuffed animal. She ran out of the room, her heart pounded, and she didn’t want to be alone. The shadows in the hallway scared her, and they reminded her of the shadows that tried to harm her in her dreams. Minsoa ran to Daehyun’s room. His door was closed, and she opened it without knocking. She walked in and paused, she didn’t see him anywhere. She began to panic and felt like she was left alone.

“Oppa!” She cried, and began to shake, “Oppa where are you?”

Daehyun was in the bathroom finishing washing up, when he heard her call for him. Her voice was filled with panic, and he quickly dropped what he was doing to get to her. He was just in a pair of sweat pants, and was shirtless.

“Minsoa, What’s wrong?” He asked wrapping her in his arms.

“Oppa…”
“Did you have a bad dream?” He asked pulling back to look into her eyes.

“Ne,” She nodded, and she was trembling.

“Don’t cry I’m here. I wont let anything hurt you okay.” Daehyun said drying the tears from her eyes. “Let me get you back to bed.” He picked her up in his arms and started towards the door. He was going to take Minsoa back to Himchan’s room.

“No Oppa!” She cried pressing her face into his shoulder, “Don’t leave me!” Minsoa clung harder to Daehyun.

“Would you rather spend the rest of the night in my room?” He asked her with kind eyes.

She nodded, and her arms tightened around him.

Daehyun chuckled, “Oh, alright I see how it is.” He said turning around towards his bed. He walked over to it, and placed Minsoa gently on the bed, tucking her in after.

“Oppa! Don’t go!” Minsoa cried holding the blanket up to her eyes.

“I’m not going anywhere, I’m just going to put a shirt on. I’ll be right back.” Daehyun said, he knew that she was afraid, and he didn’t want her to worry. He walked into his closet, and slipped a plain white T-shirt on. He then walked towards the bedroom door, closing it and turning off the lights. Minsoa whined a little, she couldn’t see where Daehyun was in the dark room, but he could see her squirm uncomfortably in the bed.
“Minsoa I’m right here.” He said, climbing in the bed. She felt his weight shift on the bed, and scooted closer to him. He smiled at her reaction, and wrapped his one arm around her pulling her closer to him. She rested her head on his chest, snuggling up to him. She felt safe with Daehyun, and trusted him. Minsoa hugged her stuffed animal and lay awake.

“You need to get back to sleep,” Daehyun spoke softly, running his hand through her hair.

“Aniyo, the monsters will get me!” She whimpered.

“Monsters huh? They haven’t met me. I’m scarier, they will stay away from you if they see me.” He said trying to cheer her up.

“Oppa, you’re not scary.”

“Oh, is that so?”

“Ne,” she said hugging him.

“Well, that’s because you haven’t seen me like that.” He said poking her in the nose. Her eyes started to adjust to the little light that was in the room. She could see faint features of his face, due to the little moonlight that entered through the window.

“Oppa’s not scary.”

“If I’m not scary, then who is?”

“Yongguk Oppa.” She said and shuddered at the thought of him.

“I see.”

“He’s got mean red monster eyes!”

“Oh, and I don’t have monster eyes?”

“Aniyo.” She said, and he smiled. It made him happy to know that she wasn’t afraid of him, and didn’t think of him as a monster, even though he knew he was.

“Alright if you say so, but the monsters won’t get you. Do you know why?”

“Aniyo.” She said shaking her head.

“Because Yongguk Hyung lives here, and they are afraid of him.” He said with a chuckle. He couldn’t help, but find it somewhat funny making jokes of his hyung.

“Really?”

“Really” he replied, “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you, and Yongguk Hyung will scare away the monsters. Would you like me to sing you to sleep?”

She shrugged, and he began to sing to her.

She fell asleep half way through the song. Daehyun’s voice comforted her and let her relax enough so she could fall asleep. He finished singing, and smiled down on her.

She’s like a little angel.” He thought to himself. Daehyun then kissed her on the forehead, “goodnight Minsoa, sleep well.”

He closed his eyes, and stared at the ceiling of his room. He thought of what the future had planned for them. He closed his eyes and fell asleep.
