Dreams

Chasing After One Love

A little girl sat quietly alone in one of the vacant desk in the empty classroom. She looked out the window to the other children playing outside, who were smiling and laughing with one another. In contrast, the little girl had on a sad and longing look. The little girl didn’t know why she was still inside while the rest of her classmates had already gone out to play. She felt so lonely.

She watched as the little kids played their silly little games and ran in and out of the little playground. There were children swinging back and forth on the swings, running around chasing each other in a game of tag, going down smoothly on the slides, and so on. They all laugh and shrieked in pure happiness, none of the kids sat alone, except for the little girl observing everything. She couldn’t help but think how fun it looked from where she sat and maybe if she can get out there, they’ll let her join them.
Though not long after the children outside got tired and just as quickly their parents arrived to pick them up. The children disappeared one by one with their parents, a happy contented smile planted in each of their faces. Unlike the little girl’s, who watched on with sad eyes.

The last kid, a different little girl, jumped out of the swings to greet her parents. They then walked away, hands intertwined, the little girl in the middle of her parents. The happy little girl giggled loudly at something her parents said. The laugh mocked the sad little girl watching from the inside, as the swing rocked back and forth less and less until it finally halted to a complete stop. The lights in the classroom abruptly turned off, leaving the little girl feeling lonely and forgotten. The little girl sniffed as she asked herself, what she was still doing there, while everyone else had gone home. Where’s her parents?

As soon as this question crossed her mind, the lights came brightly back on; though she wasn’t in her school room anymore, she was in someplace new. She was in a familiar hospital room.

A frail sickly woman laid down in the lone hospital bed of the room. Many contraption strapped down on her weak body. The woman breathe in deep and heavy breath. Every breath, made it seem like she was gasping for air.

The little girl, had grown a little, but not much. She looked at the fragile body on the bed. She didn’t want to look, but something compelled her. The girl had seen the figure before, and it always broke her heart seeing the woman. She could feel the pain and suffering the woman went through, as if it was her own body was the one deteriorating and weakening at every second the clock ticked.
She gently took the lady’s hand, sandwiching it between her own two hands. The girl then lightly patted the lady’s cold hands, since she felt too much force would shatter the fragile woman into pieces. And she didn’t want that, no not again.

The woman eyes opened slowly. She look to the teenage girl with tenderness and love. She forced a weak smile on her dry colorless lips.
The girl tried to smile back but instead tears had fallen. She called to the lady, voice shaking in tears.
“Umma...” The girl wasn’t a teenager anymore but a young woman. She couldn’t take it, she hugged her mother in a tight embrace, afraid to let her go. Afraid that someone will take her away from her, as soon as she releases.

She put her ears to her mother’s chest hearing the weak faint heartbeat, getting even weaker and weaker.
The sickly mother nudge her daughter weakly, making the young lady sit up and look straight into her mother’s kind eyes.
The young lady’s eyes blurred the images with tears.

“My little Taeyeon.” Taeyeon’s mother said weakly.
Taeyeon watched as her mother’s energy weaken every seconds within her arms. Dying slowly and painfully.
“Umma...” Taeyeon whispered through her tears, she wanted so desperately to bring her mother extra life as she brought life to Taeyeon. If Taeyeon could, she would give her own.
“I miss you so much... there’s not a day that I don’t.” Taeyeon cried even more.
The woman smiled weakly tears also at the corner of her eyes.
“Don’t worry my Taeyeon...I’m always here for you...” Her mother replied patting the girl’s arms gently.

The mother and daughter stayed like that for a few minutes, but just like everything in the world, all good things must come to an end.
“I love you...” Her mother hoarsely broke the silent with a sad smile.
Taeyeon's mother closed her eyes slowly. Her tired heart fluttering weakly. Her hand the held on to Taeyeon went limp and lifeless. The monitor next to the bed produced a high pitched sound, telling her what she already knew. Her mother was gone.
She squeezed her mother’s lifeless hands, wanting her to squeezed back in some sort of miracle.
“I love you too. So much...” Taeyeon told her mother one last time. She buried her face in her mothers arms. Letting all her emotions pour out.
“Umaaa...” Taeyeon cried out.

“Mianhe...Taeyeon, it’s ok.”
Taeyeon head shot up as she heard a different voice. She was back in her bedroom the lights still dimmed and the night sky still shown across the sky.
Her eyes landed on Luhan who was sitting beside her bed with a sorrowful expression written on his face.

______________________________

Luhan came out of the bathroom located across Taeyeon’s room, not knowing where to sleep for the night. Since he had lost a game against the others, he was picked to sleep in the bathtub, while Xiumin, Chen, and Tao slept in the spare bedroom and Kris slept on the couch and Lay on the floor next to the couch. After spending 3 uncomfortable minutes crammed in the bathtub, he had enough and got out.
He stopped in front of Taeyeon’s door. He wanted so badly to stay up all night and catch up with her, but he knew that she was already asleep, taking in a much needed rest. As he turned away to leave, he heard a whimpering sound behind Taeyeon’s closed bedroom door. Worried and curious, he gently turned the knob and ever so slowly peeked inside Taeyeon’s dimmed room.
The noise was coming from Taeyeon, who moved around slightly in her sleep.
Luhan, wanting to take a closer look, lightly tiptoed across the room where Taeyeon laid; being careful not to make any loud noise. Standing next to her bed, he watched as she murmured words in her sleep.
Luhan couldn’t help but feel the urge of wanting to caress her soft flushed cheeks. She looked so helpless and vulnerable. A tear slipped out her closed eyes and made its way down her face. Luhan sat down on the edge of her bed wiping away the tears that formed. Taeyeon in her sleep took Luhan’s hands and buried herself in his arm. Luhan froze as Taeyeon snuggled closer to him, her body shook as she whimpered more. Luhan seeing how upset she was, patted the top of her head gently and with care and tenderness.
Was she having a nightmare? Luhan asked himself.
“Umma..” Taeyeon called out softly under her breath.
A light bulb in Luhan’s head.
She’s dreaming about her mother, who passed away almost 3 years ago. She must still be missing her. Luhan though in his head as he remembered an event from the past. He wanted so badly to help Taeyeon, but didn’t know how.
He looked down at her.
“Don’t worry Taeyeon. I’m always here for you.” He kept patting her, reassuring her in her sleep. He felt for her, losing her mother at a young age and the loneliness of living alone. He wanted to take care of her and stay with her here forever.
“I love you." He finally told her, not expecting a reply. More tears fell from her eyes, as she choke out words full of meaning.
“I love you too...So much...” Luhan processed what she said. He knew inside of him that those words were not for him but hearing her say that, even when she’s asleep and in tears, still sounded sweet and addicting to his ears. He wanted to hear her say those words again, but next time directed only at him.
Taeyeon cried louder into his arms, snapping him out of his selfish thoughts.
“Mianhe...Taeyeon, it’s ok.” He told her sincerely.
Taeyeon at the end of her dream, was shock to hear Luhan’s voice ringing in her head. She moved away from Luhan as she sat straight up in bed to look at him in the dark room. Only the light from the moon coming through the window illuminated their features.

“Luhan?” Taeyeon sniffed as she sat up in bed and the night lamp on top of her dresser next to her bed.
Once she the light she saw that Luhan’s arm was soaked with her tears. She wiped her face in one quick motion and then she looked down embarrassingly. Was I crying in my sleep again? Taeyeon asked herself mentally.
“Luhan...? What are you doing here?” Taeyeon asked the boy, who was looking intently at her. Luhan saw that Taeyeon was still a little out of it, sadness shown through her eyes.
“I wanted to watch you sleep.” He told her with a grin on his face. He wanted to lighten her mood.
“That’s really creepy and weird oppa!” Taeyeon slapped the boy’s arm with a smile on her face.
“Hey! How come that guy from that vampire movie can do it but not me!” Luhan chuckled out. (directed at icenoodles’ comment lol)
Taeyeon just rolled her eyes playfully.
“Go back to sleep oppa, it’s late!” Taeyeon just laughed it off.
“Fine, I will.” Luhan pulled Taeyeon into a tight embrace. Letting the side of her head fall on his chest. Taeyeon could hear his rapidly beating heart.
“You know I’m always here for you right?” Luhan whispered down to her.Taeyeon couldn’t help but feel that this was related to the dream she just had, but frankly she couldn’t remember any part of her dream anymore, or what it was actually about.Though she did remember the tears and the feeling of overwhelming sadness and loss, since the effect of the dream still lingered inside her.

Taeyeon returned the hug. She actually felt comforted and at peace. She badly needed that.
The two stayed like that for a few more minutes in a peaceful, understanding silent. Finally, Luhan leaned back a little looking straight into Taeyeon’s brown eyes.
“I have nowhere to sleep, and since you said we can sleep anywhere... I’ll sleep with you.” Luhan’s lips formed a innocent smile though there was something else behind his eyes. A hint of passion.
He put his forehead against Taeyeon. His eyes met Taeyeon for second and then he scanned it down towards her lips.
Taeyeon tensed up under his hold. Luhan lightly smiled to himself, as he leaned in closer and closer.
When their lips were mere millimeters apart the door banged opened, scaring the living daylights out of the two. Luhan jerked up from the bed and fell down on the on the floor, first.
Tao burst through the door and stomped forward Luhan. He then preceded to poke the older one to get up from the floor.
“What are you doing Luhan gege? Kris gege told me, to tell you, to sleep on the floor next to Lay.”
Luhan looked at the younger one in disbelief, practically ready to pull all his hair out. He was so close. So so close.
Luhan reluctantly got up and didn’t even bother with Tao, he quickly stomped out the room ready kick someone in the balls.
“Goodnight Taeyeon..” Luhan grumbled under his breath not making eye contact, since he was focus on something else right now.

Tao just watched the fuming Luhan leave, and gave a shrug. Tao then turned to face Taeyeon who blinked in confusion.
“Goodnight Taeyeon noona!” Tao smiled innocently and sweetly. Taeyeon shook away her confusion and returned Tao’s smile.
“Goodnight Tao.” She yawned.
She then laid back down in bed ready to fall asleep again. Tao tucked her in and turned off the lamp next her bed, before he made his way out of the room.
Once out in the hallway, door knob in hand, he heard Luhan whining angrily to the sleepy Kris.

“Why did you send Tao!” Luhan kicked the sleepy body of Kris on the couch. Kris moaned and snuggled deeper into the couch, covering his head with his arms.
“What are you talking about?... I've been sleeping peacefully...” Kris manage to muffled out through his current sleeping position. He then started to snore as he fell back into sleep again.
It took a moment for Luhan to understand and then it hit him. Tao lied to him.
“TAO!” Luhan yelled out angrily, thinking of a million ways to kill off the manipulative kungfu panda.
Tao heard Luhan's angry threaths from where he was. This was his cue to go back to sleep. He gave a sly and devious smile as he closed the door quietly to Taeyeon’s room. He then ran swiftly towards the spare bedroom, before Luhan could get him back.
