“I don’t mind.” She whispers, as he shuts the door quietly, gets on bended knee to apologise. Her voice cracks. “I really don’t mind, as long as you always come back to me.”

He bows his head. As long as you always come back to me. He vows that he always will. It is all that he can give her, after all. She no longer believes his false promises of fidelity. She stopped believing them years ago. His throat closes.

There is no apology he can make that will fix things.
