Two young kids were playing together, laughing without a care in the world. They were chasing each other and L caught Jin Ae.

 

"Gotcha!" "Aaahh!" Jin Ae shrieked. They both giggled and lay down looking at the clouds.

"Jin Ae, do you love Oppa?" "Of course! I love L Oppa so, so, so much!"

"Will you promise to marry me when we're adults? Then we will be like our umma and appa, always together."

"Yes, Oppa, I promise." 

Just like that they made a childish promise.

"Oppa, I don't wanna go! I want to stay here, with oppa.." Jin Ae wailed, tears flowing continuously from her eyes.

She and L was hugging each other, both repulsing the news that just have been announced. Jinn Ae have just been diagnosed with leukemia. They were so young they don't know and don't care about what it is. They only care about being together forever, a promise they made and wished to be able to fulfill, that unfortunately can't be.

Jin Ae's parents were determined. They, as shocked as they were, were wise and directly planned for their family to move to America so Jin Ae can get the best treatment. 

"It's okay, Jin Ae. We can still see each other on holidays and we can call each other, right? Oppa wants you to try hard, so you can be cured and we can met again. Promise Oppa, okay?" L forced himself to say. He was young and doesn't know many things, but he knew that it's for the best.

"But, Oppa.." Jin Ae's voice was hoarse from all the crying.

"Please? For Oppa?" L looked at her in the eye, pleading.

"Okay, Oppa. I promise!"

"Take care, okay, Jin Ae? Be good and don't forget Oppa. Keep your promise, okay? Try your best so we can meet again." L smiled at her.

"I will. Oppa take care too."

"Ah, I almost forget." L pulled out something from his pocket. He held out a half-heart locket necklace and handed it to her.

"This is the sign of our other promise, when we promise to marry each other. You still remember, right?"

"Of course I wouldn't forget. I will keep this until we meet again, okay?" Jin Ae took the necklace.

"Jin Ae! We're late! Come on, we musn't miss the plane!" Jin Ae's umma called out for her.

"Bye, Oppa" "Bye, Jin Ae."

They both hugged each other goodbye.

They parted, both holding on to the necklace and the promise of togetherness.
