Phone Call

With my girlfriend right now

Jiyong sat with his arms tucked behind his head, watching TV in bed (hehe that rhymed). Some show about home

improvement was on. Chaerin was asleep next to him so he had the volume on mute. He wasn't really watching it, it

was just something to ease his boredom. "Why isn't there ever anything good on passed midnight?"

Suddenly his phone started vibrating on the night stand next to him. He answered without looking at the caller ID.

"Yeh?" His voice was rough and lazy.

"...Hey, I didn't expect you to pick up." Sohee's soft voice rang through the phone.

His eyes widened and he sat up straight. "S-Sohee?"

"You were probably asleep. Sorry if I woke you."

"No...it's ok. I was up."

"Oh."

There was an awkward silence for a while.

"I didn't really have anything to say to you. I just wanted to hear your voice."

"Sohee..." He sighed but was interrupted by her voice.

"I know I shouldn't do this. I know it's over between us but will you stay like this for a moment? A short moment?"

He didn't know what to say so he just blurted something out. "I'm with my girlfriend right now."

He could hear her jaw drop. I can't believe it. She thought to herself. "Did you really just say your girlfriend?"

"Yeh, that's what I said." His voice was slightly more annoyed then he intended.

"Is she listening to this right now?"

"No, she's asleep."

"Oh." her voice showed a sound of relief.

"Look, if you don't have anything to say then I'm hanging up."

"Wait. I need to talk with you in person. Can we meet somewhere?"

He was hesitant. "I don't know if that's such a good idea."

"I promise I won't waist your time. Please."

He sighed again. "Alright, but make it quick."

"Meet me at Starbucks."

"The one we used to go to?"

"Yeh."

"Be there in 10 minutes."

About 10 minutes later

Sohee sat in the lonely coffee shop at a booth waiting patiently. She sipped from her cup, looking out of the window.

The bell above the door began to ring. She cautiously looked behind her shoulder and saw Jiyong looking indifferently

at her. He walked over and sat across from her with a curious face. His expression suddenly became softer as he

noticed her big brown eyes, her plump cheeks, long eyelashes and cute round nose. Her pretty face that he was used

to now looked sad and tired. She gave him a bitter smile and began to speak. "I'll be brief. I'm sorry" He blinked,

confused.

"Huh?" he retorted.

"I'm sorry about my actions that day. I should have trusted you. And now due to my insecurities, I ended up hurting

you."

He was quiet and let her continue.

"It was a stupid thing that I would have never usually done. But still, you were sober, you were in the right state of

mind."

He clamped his hands together on the table and looked at her. "What hurts me the most is that you think I would just

be able to go behind your back and cheat. I would have never done that to you. I even got a tattoo for you." His voice

was calm yet hurt. She lowered her eyes. "I know...I feel terrible. Do you still have it?...The tattoo I mean?"

He lowered his shirt collar to show the body art. "Chaerin doesn't know I have it." he sounded a bit guilty.

"Chaerin? That's her name?"

He smiled. "Yeh." He pulled out his wallet and showed her a picture of him and Chaerin. She was smiling sweetly and

he was kissing her cheek. "Pretty isn't she?" Sohee ran her fingers over the photo and smiled sadly. "She's gorgeous."

All of a sudden, a drop of water fell on the picture in her hand. He looked up at her and was surprised to see tears

running down her face.

"Are you alright?" he said in a sort of a mumble.

"You have no idea how hard it is to sit here and know that I mean nothing to you anymore."

"Sohee, I-"

"I've said all I need to say. I'll leave now." She placed the photo on the table and stood up, walking towards the door.

He stood up and grabbed her arm. "I never said that."

She turned around and looked at him confused. "But oppa. You should hate me."

He smiled to himself. It had been a long time since he had heard her call him oppa. It felt right...in a strange way.

He pulled her into a hug, placing one hand on her lower back and the other on the back of her head.

"You think I should but I don't. I've long since forgiven you, just never had the chance to tell you. When I was on my

way here I thought that we would have a short conversation and then move on with our lives. I thought it would be

easy to walk away...but seeing you now in front of me, I realize that it's not that easy." He pulled away from her and

wiped her face dry.

"So what now oppa?" her voice was low.

He sighed and looked in her eyes. "I honestly have no clue."
