Miea sat all alone on the bench in the school's garden after class, apprehensively rubbing her hands together. She doesn't like being alone, but she just needed a breather. It's hard, keeping up appearances all day—one can only stand to smile for so long. Looking up twards the sky, she dangled her feet, barely keeping in the tears that threatened to fall.

"Hey, Miea." A familiar voice startled her. "What's up?"

Miea looked up, forcing herself to smile at Doojoon. She wasn't fooling him, though. Yoon Doojoon, the highschool kingka. Yoon Doojoon, the annoying brat that stole her cookies in gradeschool. Not that he ever lets her forget that. Yoon Doojoon, the boy always seemed to know where Miea was in her time of need.

"What?" He asked, bored, stretching out his arms. "Another fight with your Seunghyun.. TOP.. Oppa dude?"

She shook her head.

"Mmm.. no?" He looked Miea. "Forgot to pack Sprite for lunch?"

She almost smiled in spite of herself. "Yes," She said timidly. "But that's not it."

"Tchhhhh," Doojoon gazed thoughtfully at the grass beneath his feet. "Oh!" He clapped his hands together. "Your Kibum-scumbag-boyfriend finally broke up with you?"

Bingo.

Miea bursted into tears at the sound of his name. "I.. I saw him at the café.. kissing Jonghyun." She sniffled, crying harder as the horrifying image repeated itself over and over in her head.

Doojoon pulled her into a tight embrace. Miea's tears rolled onto his collar, but he didn't mind. They sat like that for a while, hugging. She quieted—and eventually she stopped crying.

And something happened. Something—something sparked between the two. The boy couldn't help but notice how perfectly her arms fit around his neck. The girl found it surprisingly comforting how well his arms wrapped around her waist. They complemented each other, and it was prominent at this very moment. They matched like two colorful puzzles pieces, in the midst of a black and white world. But their moment together was oh-so rudely interrupted by the school's .

"Oppa!" A nails-on-chalk-board kind of voice raked into Miea's ears. "I thought I saw you go in here!" Qri smiled at Doojoon, but her plastic smile hardened when she saw Miea in his arms. "Come on! We'll. Be. Late. For. The. Bus." She pulled on his blazer, emphasizing with a tug on each word.

Before getting up, Doojoon dug around for something in his book-bag. Smiling, he withdrew his hand holding a lime-green can and handed it to Miea. Her face lit up instantly.

"Don't drink it all at once." He winked. "Oh, and keep the can." And he left with that fake, sad excuse for a girl.

Mwoh?! Keep the can? Like.. what? Recycle it? Miea sat there, staring at the can of Sprite.

"Miea!" Ok Taecyeon stumbled out of the bushes with Kwon Yuri, two of her best-friends. "Yah! Choi Miea! We've been looking all over campus for you!" They shouted simultaneously at the poor girl. "Your brother's waiting outside."

"Hyung!" Seungri impatiently yelled at the older boy. "Pass the mo' in' kimbap already!"

"Seungri-ah!" Seunghyun snapped, hitting his dongsaeng upside the head, glancing at his little sister.

"Eh?" Seungri rubbed the back of his head, following Seunghyun's gaze. "Pffffft. We're best friends, she's used to it."

"What? The cursing?" Miea looked up from her bowl of rice.

"No, me eating like a pig." He reached for the Sprite next to Miea's plate, and took a long swig before staring at the can. "So.. who's Doojoon and why does he want to meet me at the beach at 7:30?"

"Eh?!" Miea snatched the can from Seungri's hands.

There it was. Blue sharpie'd writing next to the nutritional facts.

Oh.. the end-of-the-term barbecue beach bash! Miea jumped up from the dining table, looking at the clock. 7:11 PM. 

"You're not going." Seunghyun said know-it-all-ing-ly, putting his chopsticks down.

Miea wanted to go to the beach bash. She had  to go, she's the highschool queenka, what kind of party would it be if she didn't go? So what if her brother told her she couldn't go, that just made her wanna go even more. 

So that's how Choi Miea found herself by a bonfire on Ontae's shore roasting marshmallows with Yuri. Taecyeon was off manning the grill, throwing on beef patties and hotdogs.

"Snuck out, did you?" Yuri asked, waving a flaming marshmallow in Miea's face.

"Snuck out implies quietly tip-toeing out of the door. I walked out with dignity!" Miea said, sticking her tongue out at her friend.

Yuri arched an eyebrow.

"Seunghyun-Oppa left the house with Seungri for some double date." Miea whispered, smiling. "I totally forgot about the bash, too. Thank God Doojoon reminded me." She said, remembering what he said earlier at school.

Then she remembered what else he said. Your Kibum-scumbag-boyfriend finally dumped you.. And her expression soured.

"Yah! Choi Miea!" A familiar voice coming from behind broke into her conciousness. She didn't need to turn around to know who it was.

"Get out of here, Kim Kibum." Another familiar voice growled behind her. "Go play house-wife with your little boyfriend."

Next to her, Yuri put her hand on Miea's arm just as the sound of almost-muted grunting reached her ears. Miea turned around to see her ex-boyfriend walk away backwards, rubbing his red jaw. Doojoon was rubbing his knuckles, back turned to Miea. He spun around quickly, scanning the growing crowd. Miea's chest was pounding loudly as his eyes fell on her.

Qri, donning a skimpy dress, skittered towards Doojoon with her arms outstretched. Instead of letting her take hold of his arm like she always did, he waved her off and walked towards the bonfire.

Thirteen steps.

Eight steps.

Five steps.

Two steps.

And Doojoon stopped in front of Miea. 

"Hey," He breathed, as if nothing happened a few minutes before.

"Hi," She said, not looking up at him.

"Don't tell me you didn't feel anything before." He said confidently, taking her hand in his.

Miea looked at him curiously, ignoring the loud pounding of her heart.

"Shall I remind you?" Doojoon asked suavely, pulling her closer. But instead of a hug.. he gave her a kiss.

Fireworks were going off in her head.

Doojoon started the kiss, and he had to end it. Chuckling, he pulled away. From his pocket, he pulled out a little bag of cookies and gave it to her.

"Remember now?" He asked, smiling.
