A Goldfish's Conscience
Twelve Days of ChristmasDinner was a silent one. Somehow, she seemed upset with me.
“You know I didn’t try to hug you or anything right? You kinda just fell,” I uttered cautiously as I watched her expression for any signs of my impending doom.
Like before, her face was turning a cherry blossom pink. Putting down her burger, she looked up at me, opening from time to time as if intending to say something but somehow deciding not to. She was starting to look like a goldfish but it did not seem like the right time to tell her that.
“That is not what I am upset about,” She finally spoke before she heaved a heavy sigh. Even though I knew she sighs way too much, that still sounded particularly depressing.”Why did you not say anything when I was trying to help you get back your job?”
Ahh. So we are back to this topic again.
“Well I had nothing to say,” I muttered before taking another bite out of my burger.
“Nothing to say?”
I nodded.
“It was your fault that you released those balloons and you have nothing to say?”
I continued chewing on my food silently.
“Why am I even helping you when you refuse to help yourself?” I was starting to hear exasperation in her voice and it irritated me very much.
“Have you ever thought of the fact that I never wanted this job? Maybe i don't like working? Or maybe I don’t even want your help?”
“Can you just look at yourself? You’re penniless. Yeah maybe you are here on a trip and you just wanna have fun but you need money to do that. And the airport has not called to say they found your luggage or anything. What are you going to survive on?”
I was tired of these lectures. “I’m full,” I mumbled. Putting down my half-eaten burger, I stood up and headed to the bathroom to take a shower. The truth is I just needed time away from her. Luckily, my hungry stomach was cooperative and for once, did not choose to growl at the wrong time.

Still drying her damp hair with the towel in her hands, Geun Young instinctively headed for the living room instead of her own room. On the couch was the boy she quarreled with earlier, all curled up in the shape of a ball. Conscience is a weird thing. It was like a subconscious reminder that you did not exactly dealt with the situation the best way possible. Emerging from her room with a knitted jacket and an extra blanket she found in her cupboards, she gently placed them over Jeremy, making sure that the blanket covered him up till his neck so that he does not catch a cold tonight. Stifling a yawn, she carefully tiptoed back to her room.
