Lollipop Shop is a candy store located in Gangnam-Gu district, Seoul, South Korea; Kim Eun Kyo’s father owns the store, the store has been owned by his family for many generations dating back to his great, great grandfather. Sadly on one snowy winter day, Kim Eun Kyo’s father passed away in hospital, having suffered severe asthma for his entire life. Thus leaving both Kim Eun Kyo and her mother with Lollipop Shop and also an unwanted mountain of debt, which her father had owed to gangsters to aid his gambling addiction; with no money and source of income Kim Eun Kyo and her mother cannot pay back the debt, the debt collectors warned that they will take Lollipop Shop and their home if the debt is not paid in 3 months. Trying to save her father’s family legacy and her home, Kim Eun Kyo desperately gets multiple jobs, while still trying her hardest to attend year 12 in high school. Kim Eun Kyo’s childhood friend, Baek Tae Goo, who came back from studying in France; looked for Kim Eun Kyo, after finding out about Kim Eun Kyo’s family situation, he tries to help her, but she refuses his help, insisting that everything was fine. Later on Baek Tae Goo realises his old feelings for Kim Eun Kyo and helps her where possible, trying to care and to protect her.

One day when Kim Eun Kyo was working at Seoul Garden Restaurant, a high class eatery in Seoul; she accidentally bumps into a popular Hallyu K-Pop star, Daejoong, accidentally spilling food on him. Daejoong instantly scolds Kim Eun Kyo, suggesting the manager to fire her immediately, the manager being a good friend to Kim Eun Kyo who knows her situation resists, the singer later left in disgust. Daejoong and Kim Eun Kyo meet cross roads again, in her second job at the filming studio where Daejoong was shooting his music video, the two see each other with angry expressions. After the filming of the music video, Kim Eun Kyo is told by her manager to Daejoong out, disagreeing at first, she gives in and accept her orders. Doing her duty, Kim Eun Kyo trips on the way down the steps, luckily, Daejoong catches her in time, also at the same time accidentally kissing her, reporters took several shots and it was spread all over the internet, with rumours that the two were dating, with fans of Daejoong calling it a modern day fairy tale. With all the news in the media, Kim Eun Kyo was stalked by the paparazzi as everyone wanted to know who she was, slowly, day by day Kim Eun Kyo cracked and one day marched to Daejoong, demanding for everything to stop. Daejoong’s manager knowing that they couldn’t do anything, persuaded the two to pretend to date and to make it official in public, the two with long thought, later agreed. Both Daejoong and Kim Eun Kyo place their anger for each other aside and soon realised their love for each other, but at the same time Baek Tae Goo who also loves Kim Eun Kyo reveals his feelings for her, persuading her to be with him instead, Kim Eun Kyo remembers her childhood with Baek Tae Goo and her feelings for him starts to show, she is left undecided and confused, not knowing what to do she tells her two best friends, Sunny and Hyori, each telling her to go with her heart.

Without Telling Kim Eun Kyo, Baek Tae Goo settles the debt with the gangsters and they never came in contact with Kim Eun Kyo or her mother again, after months of absence from the debt collectors, Kim Eun Kyo forgets about the debt and only remembers when her mother reminded her. Kim Eun Kyo found out what Baek Tae Goo did for her and is forever grateful to him. Both Baek Tae Goo and Daejoong decide to fight for Kim Eun Kyo’s heart. Who will win Kim Eun Kyo’s heart in the end?

Kim Eun Kyo: Played by Lee Ji-Eun, singer and actress; Stage-name: IU

Kim Eun Kyo is an average high school girl who attends at Parks Art School, one day she hopes to study abroad in Melbourne, Australia to study Architecture and hopefully become an Architect. Kim Eun Kyo’s ambitions were put on hold when her father passed away due to his illness, leaving her to run Lollipop Shop and a mountain of debt left by her father’s gambling addictions. Kim Eun Kyo is faced with the prospect of loosing her father’s family legacy and forced out of her house. Kim Eun Kyo is later left with the prospect in choosing who she loves; her childhood friend, Baek Tae Goo or the Hallyu pop singer, Daejoong. Kim Eun Kyo also has two best friends Sunny and Hyori who help her.

Daejoong: Played by Jang Wooyoung from 2PM

Daejoong is a Hallyu star; in South Korea, Hallyu stars are regarded as the top artists in the country, where everyone would recognise them. Daejoong is a solo artist under the Label A.T Records and is adorned by thousands of fans world wide, he is considered to be one of the best artists of all time. Daejoong bumps into Kim Eun Kyo at first he dislikes Kim Eun Kyo due to an incident at the restaurant but later realises his feelings for her as time goes by. Both Daejoong and Baek Tae Goo decide to fight for Kim Eun Kyo’s heart.

 

Baek Tae Goo: Played by Taeyang from Big Bang

Baek Tae Goo is Kim Eun Kyo’s childhood friend, the two went to elementary school and high school together. Baek Tae Goo’s family moved to Paris, France to allow Baek Tae Goo of pursuing his dreams of studying film. His family is very wealthy and owns many businesses throughout both Seoul and Paris. Baek Tae Goo had a crush and loved Kim Eun Kyo ever since High School, he never had the chance and was nervous confessing his feeling for her. Baek Tae Goo soon realises that he had left it too late as a rival, Daejoong challenges his love for Kim Eun Kyo.

Hyori: Played by Kim Hyoyeon from Girls’ Generation

Hyori is one of Kim Eun Kyo’s closest friends, Kim Eun Kyo regularly talks to Hyori about her feelings for Daejoong and her actions towards love, Hyori acts more like a noona (older sister) who tries to guide Kim Eun Kyo to pick the right decision based on her heart. Hyori loves to dance and has a very strong heart, hating no one and loving everyone, she is said to be the friendliest person at Parks Art School. Hyori in Lollipop Shop also finds her own love story, she ends up with Baek Tae Goo’s close friend; the two meet on a blind date along with Baek Tae Goo and Kim Eun Kyo.

Sunny: Played by Jessica Jung from Girls’ Generation

Sunny is Kim Eun Kyo’s other friend who she talks to about Baek Tae Goo, her childhood friend who she deeply loves. Sunny persuades Kim Eun Kyo to choose wisely, but is bias towards Baek Tae Goo and develops a liking for him. Sunny is often described by her friends as fun and playful and always tries to make everyone crack a smile, she is very supportive and always listens to friends. Sunny is originally from San Francisco and speaks English very well, she demonstrates this during the series.

Gangsters: Played by Henry, Siwon, Eunhyuk and Donghae of Super Junior

The gangsters appear during the first half of the series, they threaten Kim Eun Kyo and her mother that they will take Lollipop Shop and their home if they are not paid back in 3 months, they had lent money to Kim Eun Kyo’s father to cater for his gambling addiction, Siwon is the leader.
