Life , So Eat Ramyun

The view on the rooftop was amazing.  The sky was a perfect shade of blue—for once, it was sunny—the clouds were white and fluffy, and there was no one else up there to bother her.

Minyoung scowled in annoyance.  For one, she had just found out that there was no ramyun for lunch.  It was spicy rice cakes, something she would have been eager to eat on any other day, but today was National Ramyun Day.  All she wanted to eat today was ramyun.  Second, there were rumors flying around school that her and Jaehyo were back together.

In fact, they were anything but back together.  It was all a misunderstanding in the first place:

“Minyoung!  Watch out!” Jaehyo called out.

They had been walking to school together, and she was about to look for her twin.  Obviously, she hadn’t been paying attention to her surroundings because a flying soccer ball headed straight toward her.

In a flash, Jaehyo was in front of her, catching the soccer ball with ease.  She was amazed.  He didn’t look any less surprised than she did.

“D-Did you just…?”

“I can’t believe that I caught it.”

She grinned.  “You…were the one kid in our physical education class that absolutely could not catch a ball, no matter how hard you tried.”

“You remember?” He smiled as well.  The kids who were playing with the soccer ball ran up to the two and bowed in apology.

“You guys shouldn’t be playing with soccer balls on campus.  Go find a park to play in,” Jaehyo said quietly.

She punched his arm lightly after the kids left.  “Thanks.”

“It’s no problem.” Out of habit, he wrapped his arm around her.  Realizing his mistake, he let go reluctantly.

Apparently, the two had drawn a crowd without even realizing it…

“This is so frustrating!” Minyoung slammed her head against the wall repeatedly.  This is not how I want to spend my Friday.

“Lee Minyoung, what are you doing?” a voice called out.

She turned, embarrassed, to find Yukwon standing near the stairwell leading down to the rest of the school.  “Oh, hey.”

He frowned.  “That’s the greeting you give me?”

“Well, what else was I supposed to say?”

“You could explain what happened this morning.” He walked over to her and sat down lightly.  “Minhyuk and I saw you from the window on the second floor.”

“You believed that?”

He gave her an annoyed look.  “So are you two back together?”

She glared back, equally annoyed.  “No.”

“Then explain.”

“Why can’t you just believe me?” she whined in annoyance.  People wouldn’t leave her alone, no matter how hard she tried to stay away from them.

“I’m sorry.” He sighed. “I’m a little tired right now.”

“So am I.”

Although Minyoung felt annoyed with Yukwon, she couldn’t help but smile in his presence.  He was a person who could make her smile by simply smiling himself.  He had manners and a good sense of humor.  In other words, he was her ideal type.

“Why do you like me?  Of all the girls in the school, why do you have a crush on me?” she asked suddenly.

He turned.  “Does there really have to be a reason?”  She waited patiently for him to continue, and he did.  “I like you because you’re you, if that makes any sense at all.”

She shook her head.

“It doesn’t?  Well, you have a good soul.”

“Woah.  You can see my soul?”

He smiled.  “I can tell.”

“Yeah right.” She looked away.  “So, should we try?”

“Try what?”

“Should we try to date?”

<:>

“So what did you tell her?” Minhyuk asked as the two sat in class.  The teacher had left to run some errands, telling the students that they were free to go home.  However, neither Yukwon nor Minhyuk wanted to leave.  Minyoung was still in class, and neither wanted to leave without her.

“I told her that I wanted to get to know her a little better before trying to date,” Yukwon admitted.

“You what?”

“I said—”

“I know what you said,” Minhyuk snapped.  “But are you crazy?  Isn’t this is the moment you’ve been waiting for?  Why did you say no?”

“Like I said, I want to get to know her better.”

“You know her well.  We’ve been friends for half a year already.”

“Time flies,” Yukwon said quietly.  Minhyuk didn’t respond, so Yukwon took a piece of paper and a pencil out of his backpack.  He started to sketch a circle on the middle of his paper.

That caught Minhyuk’s attention.  “You can draw?”

“No.”  He erased the circle.  “Since you obviously had nothing left to say, I was trying to amuse myself.  Thank you for making me all self-conscious.”

“Hey now.” Minhyuk rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t help but grin.  “Don’t blame me for your awkward personality.”

At that point, Minyoung walked into the classroom and threw her backpack at Minhyuk.  He caught it easily, shocked that she would throw her backpack around carelessly.

“I’m in a bad mood.” She pulled up a chair to the table Minhyuk and Yukwon sat at and put her head down on the table.  “School today.”

“Aw, did kids bother you all day?” Minhyuk teased.

“As a matter of fact,” she said, “They did.  I couldn’t even concentrate on my homework.”

“Then how about I suggest something for you?” Minhyuk said casually.  “So that you can get your mind off of your horrible day at school.”

“What?”

While staring at his twin, he slapped Yukwon on the back with a smirk.  “Go on a date with Yukwon, and don’t come home until I text you.”

Her eyes widened.  “Today?”

“No.” Minhyuk rolled his eyes.  “Next week Tuesday.”

"But I have--"

"Of course I meant today, idiot."

<:>

“This is awkward.”

Minyoung and Yukwon walked down an empty road, standing three feet apart from each other.  She held her textbooks close to her body, trying to hide the fact that she was nervous to be with him.

But I shouldn’t be nervous.  She shortened the gap between them while Yukwon was looking the other way.  I mean, we already held hands that one time…

“What are we going to do?” she asked.

He shrugged.  “Why don’t we go and see a movie?”  He gave her that smile that always made her heart flutter.

“S-sure.”  She made a note to kill Minhyuk later for making her do this.

The twins lived near a shopping district, filled with many shops and street vendors.  Apparently, there was a movie theater too, for Yukwon had no problem finding one.  He held the door open for her before entering the building.

Yukwon asked, “So do you want to buy any food before we stand in line?”

“I have the food in my backpack.  I’ll share with you.”  Minyoung smiled brightly, and Yukwon chuckled.

“Adorable,” he muttered.  “And without even trying.”

They made their way to the front of the line pretty quickly; Yukwon did choose a movie but only after he asked the boy behind the window for a recommendation.

“With your girlfriend?” the boy behind the counter grinned.

Yukwon smiled.  “Yeah.”

Minyoung almost died of embarrassment and happiness, but those thoughts soon faded away as Yukwon called out to her impatiently.

“C’mon, Minyoung.  The movie starts in five minutes.”

“What movie are we watching?” She caught up to him and tried to look at the movie tickets in his hand.

“Some horror film.”

And at that, Minyoung paled, and she was glad that no one could see her because the lighting was dim.  “Horror?”

“Yup.  You scared?” Yukwon teased.

“Nope.”  It’s just one movie.  There’s no need to get freaked out over one movie.

“If you want, you can hold onto me,” he said, “As much as you want.”

She blushed.

They took their seats near the back of the movie theater, and Minyoung already felt nervous.  She never enjoyed horror films because they always gave her nightmares, even as a teenager.

“Yukwon, I have something to tell you,” she hissed.

The opening credits started to play.

“What is it?” he whispered.

“I—”

“The movie is starting!” the person next to them said, exasperated.

“Tell me after the movie, okay?” He gave her that smile, and that made her feel like everything would be okay.

And then the action started.

<:>

Yukwon enjoyed himself at the movies.  And no, it wasn’t because of the movie itself.  The movie was as scary as hell, but he couldn’t show that he was scared.  Not in front of Minyoung, anyway.

He enjoyed the movie because Minyoung really did hold onto him the whole time.  At first, he was surprised because she specifically told him that she wouldn’t grab onto him.  That surprise turned to concern because he figured out that she really was scared of scary movies.

He asked her if she was okay, and she nodded.  He told her that they could leave, but she refused.  So she ended up in Yukwon’s arms for the second half of the movie.  And that made the movie more enjoyable.

“Are you okay now, Minyoung?” he asked.

She nodded.  “Sorry about that, Yukwon.  I must’ve annoyed you.”

“Actually, not at all.” Yukwon grinned.  “I didn’t know that you were scared of horror films.”

“I never really enjoyed watching them.” She shrugged.  “They give me nightmares.”

That made Yukwon feel guilty.  “Why did you shake your head when I asked if you wanted to leave?”

“You looked like you were having fun.”

He smiled.  “While I do like watching scary things,” he slowly reached for her hand, “Spending time with you is the best thing in the world.”

Chapter 21: Catch up time! You don’t have to read or reply to any of this, Lyndsey. I know I talk too much OTL I’m going to reread this from the beginning, but I’ll comment from where I left off. It’s gonna be fun~

13- Minyoung isn’t just the glue between Minhyuk and Taeil but between all four of them, isn't she? ^^

14- *whispers* Yukwon, just reject her >:) I’m just kidding. Just kiss already!

15- I like how Minyoung confesses her love of Yukwon to Minhyuk. Their brother-sister relationship is cute~
Minyoung, tell me what day is National Ramyun Day and I’ll celebrate with you XD

16- When Yukwon says, “Spending time with you is the best thing in the world,” I suddenly imaged Mikorin (from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun) saying that. And then I saw his face slowly turn red from embarrassment and then he hangs in head in shame because he realizes what he said was just so lame and cheesy~

17- I think you meant “He’s way ‘too’ obvious.” :)

18- Minyoung’s embarrassment is so endearing~ I like how she hid under the blanket ^^
Is Yukwon really going to get her ramyun for her birthday? O.O

19- Lol. He really did buy her ramyun XD
HAHA Coupons for free meals and Taeil made sure to write “only one coupon per day.” It’s not like she doesn’t get free ramen already XD
Jaehyo’s letter makes me pity him a bit more, but still. What he did to Minyoung... At least she gets some closure and he does too ^^
I snorted upon reading Yukwon’s ‘emergency’ XP

20- Aww. What a cute and cheesy confession :3
It’s nice to see Minhyuk’s protective side again. I was beginning to wonder where it was XD
They kissed! Yayyy~ ^_^

I’m going to miss this story. It was a joy to read all over again. I remember bits from when you first started and now…you’ve finished it.
