Tagimpan Review Services — open & accepting!Hello, here is captaintycoon once again for another review. I would like to thank the author for trusting me in this piece of work, even personally, I don’t really read this type of stories, and it’s kinda my fault for not putting it early in the Foreword (but it is now updated). I still did this review as objective as possible and I hope this review will provide insightful thoughts, as it is our goal is making ourselves better as writers. Let’s go, shall we?
Title / Description / First impression (16/20)This portion is judged by the overall impression the fic is able to evoke at first encounter.
Catch Me When I Fall as title already gives us the idea that this is romantic story. I believe it is justified when I read the story, especially the fear that is looming within our main character.
Plot / Concept / Theme / World-building (12/20)This part talks about the general point of the story, from the plot, to the setting and world-building, as well as the genres and themes that the author has chosen to tackle.
The plot is pretty simple, yet it tackles topics that runs in today’s world. While I have my own views with same- relationships, the people who reacts to it are pretty much something we hear in real life. I certainly like the business aspect and the terms, also the writer’s skill in having the reader be immersed in the country (I learned more about Indonesia, even a bit) and the way the writer let the characters stay Korean, not *insert nationality* but still using the Korean names—it makes it not jarring at all with how they are assimilated in the Indonesian society. That’s good job on that one. That is a very good consideration.
One thing I gripe in the story is that, the meet-cute has been a lot of obvious (or I just find some cultural differences?) and I kinda don’t like the aspect of cheating, be straight or gay. I believe there’s a better way to handle that one, but I just give it a thought that real life tends to be a lot of messy. I just felt that the guy is just there to be a sort of plot convenience for the writer, and I have friends in the rainbow parade who are considerate too if their person of liking is already taken.
Characterization (10/20)This criteria judges the way characters are developed, how effective their arcs have been in terms of fleshing them out, and how convincing the parts they've played in the story.
Let’s talk about Taeyeon, our main character, whom I find admirable with how hard she works, and it’s good that being much of a workaholic has its downsides. I just think however that there are a lot of aspects about the person, more than just being in the closet, which I believe manage to show it.
Tiffany, the main character’s love interest, is a cheerful one who managed to get through Taeyeon’s walls. I don’t kno
