Chapter 6

Mutual First Love // Park Seonghwa

A few weeks had passed since the fight with Taekyung and the sleepover with the boys and Yeonwoo truly realised his feelings for Seonghwa because of that Yeonwoo had distanced himself slightly from Seonghwa so as to not expose himself too much.

Rather than being around Seonghwa, Yeonwoo got closer to the 2nd year members of the council and Jongho.

Together they planned their things for the festival and today was the day they could finally see it all in action.

The festival day finally arrived and although the members of the council were all exhausted they still weren't done with their work because for the next two days they had to give full attention to everyone and help even those who aren't part of the school but they didn't really mind because after all the hard work they got to take a council trip the second week of school vacation.

So in the end all the work was worth it.

The whole day was busy. Everyone from the council was running around trying to complete their tasks and help where they could. When Yeonwoo finally got a small break he went to the council room to get some water.

When he entered he was surprised to find Seonghwa there as well, it was the first time that week that he had actually been alone with Seonghwa let alone be this close to him while they were alone so Yeonwoo couldn't help but feel a tiny bit awkward.

"Oh Yeonwoo!" Seonghwa said excitedly "I haven't seen you in a while~" Seonghwa smiled - he was happy he missed seeing Yeonwoo around but he could see the boy needed some space he wasn't sure why but he also didn't want to push the boy to much as he had already been through a lot lately - especially with Taekyung still hanging around.

"Hello Hyung, are you on a break as well?" Yeonwoo tried his best not to seem awkward.

"Yeah, come take a seat over here, I the AC not too long ago" Seonghwa said happily, patting the seat next to him, Yeonwoo smiled a little and approached him, he sat next to Seonghwa trying hard to ignore his heartbeat which quickened.

The two sat in silence for a bit.

"What did your class do for the festival? I couldn't even remember" Seonghwa said, breaking the silence.

"Ah we did an arcade, although I haven't had time to actually go and help them but they said that it was okay" Yeonwoo explained.

"Hmm that sounds fun though our class decided on doing a cross dressing cafe, I'm a little busy with everything so i got excused from having to join them" Seonghwa said with a smile.

"But hyung you would look nice either way so even if you did help and had to cross dress it wouldn't be bad… I have no idea how arcades work - I've never been to one" Yeonwoo told Seonghwa, Seonghwa's smile grew even more.

"Then we should go to an arcade someday~" Seonghwa suggested and Yeonwoo nodded a little.

Their conversation got cut short when Seonghwa's phone rang.

"It's Sani," Seonghwa said before answering his phone.

"The fireworks are ready to go for the day, shall we head out? " Seonghwa asked and Yeonwoo nodded.

Seonghwa put his phone back into his pocket and turned off the AC heading out the door with Yeonwoo following close behind him.

They got to the school field and joined the crowd that had already formed - Yeonwoo could spot Yunho and Hongjoong not far from them but when he wanted to join them so that Seonghwa could experience the fireworks with Hongjoong the older boy pulled him back only smiling at him instead and turning his attention back to Yeosang who was giving the ending speech for the night.

When the fireworks started Yeonwoo was a little surprised but he instantly smiled once the initial shock wore off, he glanced at Seonghwa and the older eyes were sparkling from the reflection of the fireworks and stars in the sky.

Yeonwoo wasn't sure why but he felt quite courageous at that moment or maybe he just got caught up in the moment but the moment Seonghwa turned to him he tiptoed and placed a soft kiss on Seonghwa's lips.

The world suddenly got a lot louder and clearer only a few seconds later and it finally sunk in what he did and dread set in.

Who saw him? What did he just do? And to Seonghwa of all people! He looked around in a panic and while Seonghwa was still frozen in shock Yeonwoo ran away from him.

He felt sick… he felt out of breath almost as if something was crushing his lungs.

Yeonwoo found his father eventually and asked him to take him home, it was obvious that something was wrong with Yeonwoo but his father also didn't want to push him to tell him.

When they got home Yeonwoo went straight to his bedroom both his mom and dad were confused but they also knew that there would be no way Yeonwoo would speak to them but there was one person who he always spoke to.

That person being Jiae, his older sister.

Yeonwoo's mother immediately picked up her phone and called Jiae.

"Ae, we need your help… it's Yeonwoo - he's having a hard time and you know that he won't speak to us about anything serious" She told her daughter.

"Okay I'll prepare a room for you" Yeonwoo's mother said with a faint smile, she hung up and let out a small sigh - she really wished that Yeonwoo could just let himself be happy for once.

Yeonwoo’s mother prepared some rooms with her husband and then they had dinner and headed off to bed - she put Yeonwoo’s food in the fridge hoping her son would eat dinner eventually when he felt ready.

The next morning Yeonwoo was out of the house before everyone else - he arrived at school before Seonghwa and got to his area where he was assigned for the festival and then headed there, trying his best to avoid everyone who could ask any questions.

As the event went on Yeonwoo fully focused on work without taking any breaks but he was quite surprised when he heard a familiar voice calling him.

“Uncle Yeon” it was a small and cute voice and Yeonwoo looked around a little until he spotted a little girl, she had her head in two space buns and the wore a pretty purple dress - with the biggest smile on her face she was making a b-line straight to Yeonwoo.

The boy couldn’t help but smile even though he was caught completely off guard.

“Uncle Yeon,” the little girl said, finally jumping into his arms, giving him a huge hug.

“Yeji! What are you doing here?” Yeonwoo asked surprised and when he looked up he instantly smiled - “Jiae noona!” he said excitedly.

Yeonwoo stood up, happily holding Yeji in his arms and giving his older sister a hug.

“How are you Yeon?” She asked not letting go - Yeonwoo instantly knew why she was here.

“Uh well - I have definitely been better but… I did something stupid yesterday noona” Yeonwoo said his voice broke a tiny bit, Jiae held him a  little tighter.

“When do you get a break? We can talk a little” Jiae told him.

“I can take a break whenever - let’s go to the council room, everyone should be busy now so lets go” Yeonwoo told her, he held her hand and placed Yeji down taking her hand as well and led the two towards the council room.

“Where is Yejin? He didn’t come with you?” Yeonwoo asked curiously, usually the twins would always be together. Yeji and Yejin were two peas in a pod and always went everywhere together.

“Ah Yejin? He is having a small bonding trip with Hajun - and I am having mine with Yeji'' she explained - Yeonwoo smiled, Hajun was Yeonwoo’s brother in law, his work kept him quite busy so he didn’t get to spend a lot of time with the twins so he was happy that he could spend some time with Yejin even if it was just Yejin and not both twins.

When they got to the council room Yeonwoo opened the door and was quite surprised to find both Hongjoong and Seonghwa in the room - Yeonwoo froze for a second and turned around.

“It’s occupied - it’s best if we go somewhere else” Yeonwoo said softly pulling Jiae to in a different direction, she didn’t miss the change in Yeonwoo’s mood nor did she miss the shift in the expressions of both the boys in the the council room.

When they got to the school garden which was quiet, Yeonwoo and Jiae sat down while Yeji played with the flowers that were blooming on the grass.

“Yeon what's going on? Did those two do something to you?” Jiae asked seriously.

“What? No they didn’t, more like I did something to them?” Yeonwoo said in a questioning tone.

“Did something to them?” Jiae asked, confused.

“Well… Their dating - well I think they are dating? Anyway yesterday we had the fireworks event after the event and I was with Seonghwa hyung and well things just happened I don’t know and I kissed him noona” Yeonwoo said and instantly regretted it.

Jiae looked at Yeonwoo as he panicked - she felt a little sad, her baby brother was still struggling so much with things that his so-called best friend fed him all these years.

“Yeon let's start with my first question shall we?” she asked calmly taking his hand in hers, she rubbed the back of his hand with her tumb

“Your biggest worry isn’t that you kissed him but rather that you are worried about mom and dad’s reputations? You don’t want your being gay affect them so you are panicking because the mask you have worn since forever is slowly slipping down?” she asked and the expression on Yeonwoo’s face said enough.

“Yeon listen to your sister today, mom and dad don’t care about what others think of them - to them our happiness is more important than anything else! Do you think mom and dad would’ve taken you in when your biological mom ran off suddenly if they cared about their reputation?” Jiae asked and Yeonwoo wasn’t sure how to reply to her.

“But noona that’s exactly why I have to be perfect! Mom and dad sacrificed so much to take me in but now look at me I am going to ruin everything”  Yeonwoo said, there was a slight panic in his voice and it kept fluctuating from loud to soft.

“JIN YEONWOO” she said in a scolding tone - “Now you listen to me today! I will only say this once, If you love that boy you are allowed to love him, and to hell with everyone else, do you really think mom would ask me to come all this way just to have you unhappy in the end? They want you to be happy, Yeonwoo! They don’t care about anyone else '' Jiae scolded him, Yeonwoo was a little surprised by Jiae’s change in composure - she was usually sweet and loving but seeing her like this was really surprising - and a little eye opening.

“Now secondly - what exactly was so bad about kissing that Seonghwa boy?” she asked him still in a serious tone.

“He is dating Hongjoong hyung - I shouldn’t have done it” Yeonwoo admitted and she just stared past him, knowing smile on her face when she saw two figures eavesdropping on them.

She knelt down in front of Yeonwoo and cupped the boy's face - “Did Seonghwa explicitly tell you that he and Hongjoong were dating?” she asked and the boy shook  his head.

“Then it's best not to jump to conclusions on your own” she said softly.

“Now let's cheer up a little shall we? Your niece missed you” she said getting up and holding out her hand to Yeonwoo, he took it and  got up, just in time for Yeji to come running over with a bunch of daisies in her hand and handed them to Yeonwoo.

“Uncle Yeon no be sad anymore” she said cutely, Yeonwoo took them and smiled, he patted the little girls head.

When the day came to an end Yeonwoo skipped the performance at the end of the night to celebrate the ending of the festival and went home with Yeji and Jiae.

They had dinner together and just before bed Jiae stopped Yeonwoo - “You should talk to that boy, before you regret it later on” she said before retreating into her bedroom.

Yeonwoo went to bed that night with a lot on his mind.
