Chapter 1

Mutual First Love // Park Seonghwa

It was a nice warm autumn Friday - The school bell just rang to dismiss the students who were gathered in their classes - Yeonwoo was among those students - he was hurriedly packing away his school supplies.

"Yo! Yeon" a all too familiar voice called out to Yeonwoo as he was getting ready to leave the classroom, the boy rolled his eyes a little.

"Yeah Taekyung?" He stopped in the doorway and turned to his childhood friend.

"There's a mixer tonight, you're coming right?" Taekyung asked and Yeonwoo just stared at him a little.

"No, I told you - I promised my mom to help her set up the big event she has been planning for months," Yeonwoo said with a smile.

"Ah yeah of course, you would never attend mixers anyway right?" Taekyung said in a cocky tone - Yeonwoo tried his best to ignore his best friend and just smiled at the boy.

"Yeah my dad is the principal afterall... it would look bad" Yeonwoo said and Taekyung just laughed.

"Whatever Mr.Goody - have fun at that stupid party of yours" Taekyung said as he pushed past Yeonwoo and joined up with his other friends who were waiting outside the classroom - When Yeonwoo left the classroom directly after Taekyung he heard the boy mention his name and it was followed by everyone in the group laughing.

Yeonwoo just ignored them and walked to the bus stop - he took the bus home and quickly changed out of his school uniform - changing into something that would be better for the event he would help his mother with since they are invited to attend as well.

Once he was done he took a taxi to the venue - it took a few minutes but when he arrived Yeonwoo quickly entered - he told the front desk that he was there to help set up the event and the lady at the front desk helped him to the area where the party would be held.

"Oh my Woo~" a sweet voice called out - Yeonwoo instantly smiled when he heard her voice and soon enough he was wrapped up in her arms.

"Hi mom~ have you had a good day so far?" Yeonwoo asked his mother as he returned the hug with a big smile.

"Hmm it's been stressful we're behind schedule~ some of my staff called in sick" she said with a sigh.

"Hmm~ it's okay I am here now so I will help~ just tell me what to do boss!" Yeonwoo said with a huge smile as he broke the hug, his mother laughed.

"Okay then my trusty helper, let's get started~" she said happily.

The two started working, placing flowers, rearranging chairs and tables, making sure the DJ and MC of the event were all ready for it, time quickly flew by before they knew they were done and just in time for the event to start.

Yeonwoo and his mother happily greeted the guests as they entered and showed them to their seats - eventually Yeonwoo's father arrived and they joined the other guests, there was a speech and then the whole event officially started - people danced and others did some networking.

Yeonwoo found himself standing in the corner sipping some juice, he didn't exactly feel like he belonged it was mainly adults at the event and he was one of the few high school students but the ones at the event already knew one another as they grew up together, he was invited because he belonged to the party planners family so there was no other reason to be there aside from that.

"And if you're hiding here?" a voice suddenly asked next to Yeonwoo, ripping him out of his thoughts.

"Huh?" he asked and looked around until his eyes landed on a familiar figure. "Oh Seonghwa Sunbae-nim" he said, a little surprised, the older smiled at his reaction.

"Hi~" the older said with a huge smile, "Why aren't you talking to anyone?" he asked again.

"Ah well, I don't know anyone here - my parents were invited and so was I but I don't want to bother anyone" Yeonwoo said with a small smile.

"Hmm I see~ well you know me... so you can talk to me~ I was just about to step out for some fresh air" Seonghwa said happily "Come with me?" he asked as he tilted his head a little.

Yeonwoo looked around and made eye contact with his mother, who happily smiled when she saw him talking to someone.

"Seonghwa smiled a little and grabbed Yeonwoo's hand and pulls him along, Yeonwoo's mother looks at him and laughs a little as she watches her son being pulled along with Seonghwa - it was the most emotion she has seen on his face in a while and she couldn't help have a bubbly feeling in her chest.

Yeonwoo and Seonghwa eventually began running. Yeonwoo couldn't help but laugh, it was fun not knowing where he was going or what they were going to do.

Eventually they got to two glass doors, Seonghwa pushed them open and they found themselves on a balcony.

"Welcome to my secret hideout~" Seonghwa said and took a seat on the floor, Yeonwoo smiled a little and joined him.

"You seem to know the building well, Sunbae," Yeonwoo said as he looked up to the stars.

"of course I do... my father owns this building, he's the one throwing the whole party down there" Seonghwa explained, Yeonwoo wasn't sure why but the older didn't seem very happy.

"Hmm I see," Yeonwoo said while nodding.

The two just sat there for a while, neither of them knew what to talk about - Seonghwa still couldn't believe he just dragged the boy along with him.

"Hey Yeonwoo..." Seonghwa called out as he pulled his legs to his chest - resting his head on them while looking at Yeonwoo.

"Hmm" the younger hummed in response.

"Why do you hang out with Taekyung?" Seonghwa asked - he always saw the two together but they were different from one another like day and night.

"He's my best friend...my only friend," Yeonwoo said as he ran a hand through his hair.

"We met when we were kids, he was my only friend. Somehow no one wanted to befriend me aside from him and as we grew older he just in general turned out to be a bad person so nobody associated with us" Yeonwoo explained while shrugging.

Seonghwa just stared at him a little - it didn't seem like a very healthy friendship.

"If i wanted to befriend you would that be okay?" Seonghwa asked, causing Yeonwoo to look at him in shock.

"I've been wanting to be friends with you since I kept you company last year during the orientation, but Taekyung would always glare at me when i tried to approach you so I thought i might've upset you and he was being a good friend" Seonghwa told the boy who was still in shock.

'Sunbae wants to be my friend?' Yeonwoo thought to himself.

"I-i would really like that Sunbae, I've wanted to befriend you as well but I didn't want to be a bother" Yeonwoo said with a big smile - he didn't want to be just friends but that was a can of worms he wasn't ready to open yet.

Seonghwa couldn't help but mimic Yeonwoo's smile.

"Oh and another thing...have you ever thought of joining the Student council?" Seonghwa asked the boy who shook his head a little - it never really crossed his mind Seonghwa was part of the council - he was the president at that so Yeonwoo always thought something like that was unachievable.

"We are looking for the next president for the council once I graduate this year but no one in the club wants the position and a few teachers recommended you...so if you are up to it come visit us" Seonghwa said to the boy who was still in shock.

"O-okay," Yeonwoo said slowly.

The two just made small talk afterwards, Seonghwa explained something about the council hoping to convince Yeonwoo to join and Yeonwoo on the other hand couldn't even form a cohort thought, because his heart's thumping was drowning out all Seonghwa's words.
