Day off - Part 2

Reveal

"What kinds of things have you done here?" Kevin asked you as you walked out of the mall with them.

You considered all of the times you had been to Atlanta before moving. "I've been to the Zoo, Aquarium, and the park. However, I haven't been to the World of Coca-Cola and I haven't been on the SkyView." You ticked them off on your fingers.

"We went to the zoo yesterday and were thinking of going to the Aquarium today." He suddenly changed topic. "What do you usually do on your days off? Just wander the city?"

He seemed extremely interested in the answer, and something told you that he would just keep asking until you answered him. But you could tell the others were paying attention, too.

"I usually spend time at home just relaxing or writing stories." You weren't sure why you added the part about writing stories, but it was true.

Kevin looked surprised. "Writing stories? What type of stories do you write?"

You turned away, embarrassed. Somehow, it just hit you that most of your stories were about attractive Asian men, and here you were, surrounded by four of them. "Uh. Fantasy, mostly."

It wasn't exactly a lie. Almost every story you wrote was you fantasizing about Asian men. Some of them were even set in a fantastical setting like the genre required.

"Would you tell me about some?" His eyes were bright and shining, but you couldn't bring yourself to tell him about any of the ones that popped into your head.

"Dude, let her alone." Eric smacked lightly at Kevin's arm.

At the action, Q finally said something. You realized that it was the first time he had actually spoken in front of you and he wasn't speaking English. When Eric responded, you realized they were speaking Korean. Great. Of all the Asian cultures they could have been from, you managed to run into Koreans. In a second, you also realized that your ringer was on on your phone and your ringtone was a Kpop song. Part of you was tempted to silence your phone, but the curious part of you just left it on. You wanted to see what their reaction would be. Would they know the song that played? Instead, you just listed to them converse for a while.

After a few seconds, their banter stopped and Jacob turned to you. "What do you want to do?"

Unsure, you deflected. "Is there anything that you guys haven't done but want to?"

"I want to do the SkyView." He said excitedly. The others didn't seem opposed to the idea, so you headed in that direction. Having been slightly familiar with Atlanta, you led the way.

At the SkyView, each of you paid separately but got on the ride together. As it climbed, you couldn't help but just stare out at the city. You had never seen the city from this point of view before.

"It's so pretty." Jacob's voice from beside you jolted you from your own admiration of the scene.

"Yes. It is." You gave a smile to him before looking back out the window.

The two of you stood in silence for a minute, but you could tell that he was searching for something to say. Q, Kevin, and Eric were conversing among themselves and taking pictures. Jacob snapped one himself and showed it to you.

"What do you think?"

You chuckled slightly. He had gotten a glare off one of the buildings which sent a light streak across the picture, making it look slightly strange.

He smiled. "I know this isn't great." Still, he seemed happy to see you smile at it.

Suddenly, Kevin came over and threw one of his arms around your shoulder and the other around Jacob's. "Let's take a picture together!"

The three of you turned around so your backs were to the window and the view of Atlanta could be seen behind. Then, Eric and Q moved closer as Kevin stretched his arm out to get all 5 of you in frame. He was able to take a picture, then nearly dropped his phone. After a brief panic, all of you laughed together and exchanged small talk until you were ushered out of the pod.

"Where should we go next?" Jacob looked around at everyone who exchanged equally unsure looks.

Everyone stood there in silence for a minute just looking around.

Hmm.. You looked out at the city, taking in the Olympic Park across the street and the buildings beyond. Finally, you remembered what Kevin had said earlier in the day about having planned to go to the aquarium.

"Didn't you guys plan to go to the Aquarium today?"

Kevin's eyes lit up. "That's right!"

After a brief pause, Eric added "But where is it? How do we get there from here?"

You smiled. He probably couldn't see the building because of the trees in the park. "It's this way." You gestured toward the park and began to lead them across the street. Since you had to go to the opposite side of the Centennial Olympic Park to get to the Aquarium, you decided to enjoy the view as you went.

The five of you crossed into the park and began to make your way to the opposite end. However, it didn't take long for the guys to get distracted by the fountains, people, and dogs that surrounded you. A few minutes later, they were so intrigued by everything that you found a good place to sit down so they could just enjoy themselves for a little while. You then watched as each one found someone or something to interact with. The dogs in the park were especially popular with them. Soon, Q wandered back over to sit with you.

"Do you come here often? You seem like you see this a lot."

You smiled and leaned back a bit. "It was one of the few places I knew when I moved here. I loved spending time here." You pointed toward the areas under the trees on the far side of the park from you. "I spent a whole day sitting there, once. I just wrote or drew whatever I felt like. It was beautiful."

He seemed focused on your words like he could see how you were that day.

"Do you like the outdoors?"

He gave an ambiguous smile and didn't answer the question.

Just as you started to wonder what it could mean, Eric came back over. He had joined Jacob and a few local people to shoot some hoops.

"Done already?" You asked and looked back toward the court. As you did, you saw Jacob looking around for him. He spotted the three of you, waved to the other players, and came running back over.

Eric nodded and glanced back, also.

"Hey, you should have told me that you were leaving. I thought you guys had ditched me." He gave a pouting look that warmed your heart.

Like clockwork, Kevin also returned. "Are we going to the Aquarium now?"

"I thought you were having fun playing with the dogs." Eric joked with him.

Kevin returned the joking energy in Korean although you couldn't understand it. They bantered then Q piped up and added his own comment, which kept it going for another few minutes.

You enjoyed the scene. Eric seemed to be loosening up a little bit and you realized that the reason Q wasn't saying much was probably a language barrier. He didn't speak much in English, but was fine making comments in Korean to the others.

"Gaja." That was one phrase you did know. It meant 'Let's go'.

You stood in time with Q who had been sitting beside you. He threw a small glance at you.

"It's this way." You held out your left hand to show the direction. You were most of the way across the park already so you just had to get them out of it as long as they didn't get distracted again. Thankfully, they did follow your lead this time without straying.

Q made a comment in Korean that you didn't understand, then the other three looked toward the building on the left. "Neh." Yes.

Kevin threw a strange look at Jacob at his confirmation, but didn't say anything as we started across the street. Instead, Jacob noticed and just looked embarrassed about whatever just happened. You had to admit, Kevin's face was certainly like reading an open book. He was extremely expressive. They chatted in Korean again as they paid for tickets for entry.

Once inside, it was like they all wanted to go in different directions. Suddenly, you felt like a teacher on a field trip with kindergarteners who just wanted to wander and not stay together. However, you were surprised and impressed when the moment passed as they looked at the map and made a plan to go around the entire place together. Jacob pouted a bit because his choice wasn't the first place they were going, but was excited at everything they could see anyways.

As you went, you decided to remain quiet and just allow them to enjoy themselves. You also found that you liked listening to them converse in Korean. It was soothing in its own way. Sometimes, one of them would say something to you and you would answer in turn. You smiled the entire way. When you got to the penguins, you fell behind a little bit. You watched them talking and playing around with each other and were grateful that your self-preservation hadn't kicked in earlier when you said you would come with them. You were actually having a great time and felt really comfortable with them.

You noticed movement from the corner of your eye and turned just in time to see one of the penguins splash into the water before racing around the tank.

"Do you like penguins?"

"They are cute."

"Should I steal one for you?"

You glanced over to Eric at that comment. He had a playful look and it completely disarmed you. He had seemed so serious at first, but this relaxed Eric was charming. You laughed and shot down the idea.

"No. I don't want you to get arrested for trying to steal a penguin." The playfulness dimmed a bit in his eyes. "Besides, it's much easier to steal something from the interactive part. You don't have to sneak around the back."

He perked back up at the jest in your own voice.

Once the two of you reached the other three, who waited before moving on, you found that it was much easier to chat with them all. Even Q was trying a bit more to talk to you despite needing a bit of translation sometimes. You felt like you had become friends with them by the time you exited the aquarium.
