Day off - Part 1

Reveal

Sunlight shone through the blinds of your bedroom window as you slowly stirred awake. You had just woken up fro a strange dream that was quickly fading from your memory. It wasn't strong enough to affect your sleep or mood so you woke up pleasantly and feeling decently rested. You got up, straightened the blankets on your bed and wandered to the bathroom. As you completed your morning routine, you inspected yourself in the mirror. This seemed to be one of your rare days where you actually felt pretty. You moved on to sit in your living room as you decided what to do today. Since it was your day off, you could just veg all day and watch videos or shows. However, as the bright sunlight shone in the window, you realized that you just wanted to go out and explore the city.

You had moved to Atlanta a few months ago and were slowly falling more in love with the city. You lived within walking distance of a Marta station so you were able to get into the city center with very little issue despite not owning a vehicle. In fact, it was probably easier to get there during the rush hours since the Marta travelled above or below the stand-still traffic.

You glanced out the window to see a red sedan pass by on the nearby street and determined that you would venture out. You dressed quickly, finding something comfortable and cute but that would also not be heavy enough to make you sweat too much in the Atlanta heat. You checked yourself in the mirror once more before ducking out the door. You still felt pretty and the outfit just complemented it. Overall, you felt that this was going to be a good day.

An hour later, you stepped off the Marta at Peachtree Center station. You moved to the end of the platform and went up the escalators on the right hand side. When you got to the top, you followed the crowd around to the right then took the left into the underground mall rather than taking the smaller set of escalators to the right. As you walked among the people, you passed food places one after the other until you got to the center area where a lot of the tables were. You decided to purchase a pie from Panbury's and eat at one of the tables.

Twenty minutes after that, you sat there enjoying your pie when a few guys walked up to the other end of the table. As these tables were often pushed together to create room for 6 or 8 people, they were still far enough away that you weren't worried about them. You usually ignored the downtown crowd and just enjoyed your alone time in the midst of them, so you didn't even look up when they sat down. It was also starting to get busy, so you figured that there weren't many seats open.

"Excuse me?" You vaguely heard the bright voice. "Hello, miss?"

You paused as the last word caught your attention. You looked up to your left and across the table to the guy who was staring at you. He was smiling brightly with a light in his eyes that was a bit mischevious.

"Yes?"

"I was wondering if there are any places you know of that would be great to visit? We're visiting." As he spoke, your brain slowly kicked into gear. You knew this face from somewhere.

"Uh..." You stammered. "I know of some of the typical tourist attractions. There's the Olympic Park, the World of Coca Cola, the Aquarium, the Zoo, and the SkyView. Were you looking for suggestions like that?"

His face fell slightly at your question. "No. I was hoping for things that weren't as well known, something only a local might know but is great to experience."

You smiled apologetically. Unfortunately, I haven't been living here for long. I moved here at the beginning of March."

"Maybe you should join us then in seeing what's around." A second voice piped up from the same side of the table as you. You hadn't noticed before, but there were four of them in total. The new voice came from the man closest to you but who still sat a seat away. Although he looked a bit young in the face compared to the other three.

You considered for a moment. "I suppose I haven't been able to get out and do as much as I've wanted to. It would be nice to go to some new places." You weren't sure why you felt entirely comfortable with this set of four guys, but something about them and the way they were disarmed your usually cautious nature. Either that, or the fact that they were all decently attractive. You made a mental note to kick your own for that thought later.

"Jacob!" The one sitting on the other side of the same side chastised him. "You just asked a girl to walk around with four men that she's never met before."

Jacob looked embarrassed for a second and looked back at you. "If you feel uncomfortable or don't want to go, you don't have to."

His bashful look was cute.

"I think it'll be okay. I get the feeling you wouldn't do anything to me." He had offered so wholeheartedly that it screamed innocence to you. Besides, you knew that you could probably take three of them just from their builds. Two looked like they had very little muscle on them, one was a bit larger, and the last one was wearing a sleeveless shirt so you could see the definition on his arms. He definitely worked out. But with your stature being large, you had strength that was disproportionate to smaller women of the same height.

The guy sitting on the far side of the first one gave a strange smile. It was slightly unnerving, like he wanted to challenge the idea that he wouldn't do anything. However, it did reveal a dimple on the side of his face that you could see.

You looked away from the smile at the voice of the man on the other side of Jacob. "Are you sure you'd want to join us?" He sounded skeptical.

"If you don't want me to go along, just say so. I didn't have a plan today, anyway, so I was just going to wander around the city."

His face changed in an unidentifiable way. "That's not any better than going around with 4 strangers. Why would you do that?"

You now understood his hesitant tone. He was concerned for your safety and probably thought you were inviting death.

"I don't have anyone to visit and I prefer to spend my days off just doing things as I please."

His expression now seemed both shocked and impressed that you were comfortable enough to go around alone. "Okay."

The first guy finally spoke up again, having looked like he had a lot to say already. "You don't have any friends?"

You shook your head, but didn't say anything as the realization hit you that you probably shouldn't be telling strangers in public that you have no friends.

"You can be our friend for a day!" He seemed excited at the idea. "I'm Kevin." He reached out his hand.

"It's nice to meet you, Kevin." You shook his hand.

"Jacob." Jacob held his hand out to you, as well. You shook it. "This is Eric." He gestured behind him, "and that's Q."

"Q?" His name seemed odd to you. "Just Q?"

He smiled and nodded.

"Okay. It's nice to meet each of you."

A few minutes later, all five of you stood up and discarded your trash then began to depart from the underground mall.
