You've always noticed her.

She was always laughing with her friends over somthing goofy or gossips, probably.

Her laughter reminded you of high notes.

Her laughter was contagious.

She, Kim Minjeong, was contagious.

You both were not near on being friends.

heck, she doesn't even know that you exist.

But that was fine, you didn't mind anyway.

"Bae Sumin move your already! you look stupid daydreaming there!"

"Coming!" You abruptly snapped out of your thoughts and picked up your notebook and pen.

"Burger, fries, bread...literally just the everyday menu!" soeun complained.

"oh, tempura!" your friend's eyes twinkled at the new addition to your canteen's menu.

"fries and tempura for me I guess." you mumbled as you followed after your friends who were giggling.

"what? kim minjeong you like jimin unnie?!"

"no I don't!"

the sudden outburts from a table near the canteen's door shushed your friends- everyone in general.

she was there.

kim minjeong was there.

beeting red, flustered and had her head down due to embarrassment.

the silence didn't last long as the canteen started cheering, further embarrassing minjeong.

"knew it! pay up yoon!" you heard soeun exclaim.

ah right, they had a bet.

If minjeong likes jimin because she's been caught staring at her a lot.

she was caught making a sketch of her during arts.

she was (subtly) protecting her during P.E (your class and jimin's P.E classes played dodgeball together)

it was funny because minjeong was in your team but she was protecting another game's queen by targeting other players.

she got ousted by jimin's partner tho.

and just recently, she was caught putting sticky notes on her locker.

you shaked your head and grabbed a tray for yourself.

"Sumin and Minjeong."

you wanted to scream.

you never wanted to scream so loud until today.

nothing much, you just got partnered with kim minjeong for a physics activity.

triboelectric something.

you're not fond of physics or anything with formulas and related to science.

science is fun but it gives headaches.

"math and science are both just piece of cake!"

but minjeong found both of them easy so you tried to study about them.

you know, just to see if what she said was true.

"hello sumin!"

and yes, they were indeed fun.

kim minjeong was probably the nicest person you've ever met in your school.

sure she gets in trouble sometimes but most of them were just her being late and cutting classes.

but minjeong was nice.

pretty.

smart- or intelligent was a more accurate term.

and, she caught your attention.

she was just so...

you can't explain it accurately using terms but,

minjeong was like a bonfire in a camp.

she was like the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

the Big Ben in London,

she was just, glowing.

It was your first day in your high school , you had no plans but to focus on your studies.

but she was there.

you just happened to see her.

she was giggling with her friends at the middle row.

you just can't forget about it.

how her eyes were shaped crescent moon.

how her giggles sounded so, nice.

you wanted to hear it more often.

and you just had to meet eyes with her when the homeroom teacher banged the board with her stick to get their attention to announce the newly transferred student which was you.

you should have kept your eyes on your teacher.

because you met eyes with her.

her alluring, puppy like eyes.

nose and plump pink lips.

you felt your heart jump.

"Sumin? why are you so red?"

"It's just the heat, Ma'am."

"so you're into Philosophy? that's great!" she grinned.

you both decided to go to the library to learn more about triboelectric, because you weren't really listening and minjeong was late in class (for good reasons, she's the council's vice president.)

"yeah, reading theories is fun." you smiled back, turning the page of the science book that you grabbed.

"Who's your favorite Philosopher then?"

"Plato." you wanted to add that it was also because of the symposium but you chose to keep your mouth shut.

"Oh, mine is Aristotle!"

"So, you like Philosophy too?" you asked.

a little giddy because finally, maybe, you and her have something in common.

because in all the months, since you transferred, you both were very different from each other.

"Not really."

oh.

"But it's fun reading them!" she added before you could day something more. "I just don't really like it when the teacher asks us to define this and that, analyze situations, burn our brains you know?" she pouted.

ing hell, she looks so adorable!

your high school went by smoothly.

you were, casual with minjeong.

you wanted to be friends with her at first because she was just, so perfect.

but you knew that you'll never be contented with just being friends with her.

because really, is it just friends if your heart jumps when its her?

you wanted more.

and you knew she wouldn't reciprocate so you settled with being casual.

a casual, acquaintance.

you're not friends with her.

but you're good with her.

so it didn't matter anymore, what your label was.

as long as you were there, she was there.

as long as you talk, it was fine for you.

anything for her, it was fine for you.

after high school, you had to move away.

your father found a new job in the city so you had to leave.

you can live alone, stay in your house or with your aunt.

or rent a loft apartment for yourself,

but you figured that moving away would help you get rid of the growing feelings you have.

pfft, who were you kidding? your feelings already bloomed way before.

and you don't want to be friends with minjeong as long as you have them.

so you moved away with the intention of getting over her.

your plan was to get rid of the feelings, go back to busan and (hopefully) come back to minjeong as her friend.

your mother had always told you to never settle for less.

because you deserve the best of all things.

choosing to be a friend of someone you know you want to be your soulmate,

was it really settling for less?

you don't think so,

because minjeong was always like that.

you both were not friends and yet she treated you as one.

you were a burden during physics and science but she made yo
