The Viscount's Schemes

Black Rose

A/N For the lot wondering how Yerin figured out Eunbi was the Black Rose and how Eunbi realizes that Yerin already knows, it’s the fact that she sparred with Sojung and since they already realized that the Black Rose is not just one person, then that makes Yerin suspect Eunbi once more. And if Eunbi knows she confronted Sojung, then it’s all just guesswork at this point.

Yerin looks on, bored out of her mind as she watches Alfred fail to get his posture correct as his sword instructor reminds him time and time again to make sure that his footing is in its proper position. She can feel the frustration radiating out of him as he tries to get it right but stumbles when instructed to his sword forward.

“You’re distributing your weight incorrectly.” Yerin has had enough, approaching the two and tiredly turns to his instructor, “It’s not just about the footing and the stance but how the weight is distributed to make sure he retains his form.”

“Chevalière.” the instructor nods, “I have insisted however he doesn’t seem to understand how to do so.”

“If he cannot even master the basics, then why waste your time?” she sighs, a hand to her head to express her disappointment.

Yerin has no idea how such a skilled swordsman like Eunbi could be related to a sorry excuse of a noble like Alfred.

She turns to the seething noble and glares pointedly at him, “Listen, it’s not enough to just wave your sword around like a baton, at the very least you need to understand how to control your sword, not let the sword control you. A sword is not a stick, it has its own weight and not enough brute force will let you master it.”

She draws her weapon, surprised to see Alfred actually paying attention the moment she does so, “You also need to understand your own weapon to learn how to use it, not all swords are the same and one as extravagant as yours carries more weight than normal.” she uses her rapier to point out the intricate pattern of the handguard his weapon has, “With that, you should know that most of your weight will be focused near the hand. Now, extend your arm with your rapier.”

He begrudgingly follows, about to get into a stance but stops when waves her rapier to stop him from doing so.

“No stances, just extend out your arm.” she scolds.

When he finally gets the instructions correctly, she points her rapier to the handguard and then to his bicep, “Notice how your arm strains against the weight of your handguard as you keep it extended. Now bend your arm slightly.”

Alfred silently follows.

“Do you notice the weight is more tolerable?”

He nods.

“Now extend it once more, this time place your foot in front.” she dictates, watching closely as he obediently follows her orders, “Lean forward slightly, keep your foot at shoulder level, and slightly bend your knees. It will be straining a little on your thighs however, once you bend your arm slightly, the weight of your weapon nearly becomes negligible.

“Keep in mind that is the basic of all basic stances.” she tells him, “If you’re just starting now on this, it will be a while before you can fully master ing your rapier without toppling forward.”

Alfred grunts in annoyance but stays silent which earns a raised brow from the knight, finding his silence slightly unnerving.

“Show me.”

“Pardon?” the knight turns to the noble.

“I want you to show me.”

“Would it hurt you to say please?”

Alfred nearly snarls at that, but Yerin just looks on in amusement unfazed by the animosity.

“Please show me.”

She smiles in triumph, readying her weapon.

“Watch closely little one.” she says with mirth in her tone. She then faces the training dummy currently placed on the side and takes a stance, doing exactly what Alfred had done while raising her other arm slightly at chest level. With a breath, she s her rapier forward, hitting its intended mark which was the middle of the ‘torso’ of the training dummy.

“If you get it right, your weapon should hit your intended target, if you get it wrong then you miss. It’s as simple as that.” Yerin shrugs, “My other arm provides balance when I my weapon forward, keeping the center of my weight at a manageable position which allows me to properly maneuver my weapon as I please and keep it stable to have enough power behind the attack. I suggest you practice doing that first before you move on to any other fighting styles that you prefer.”

The knight then stands properly, sheathing her weapon, “Besides that, there is also an issue with regard to your patience. Swordplay is not a thing you can master as long as you know how it is done. It takes a great deal of perseverance and patience, and if one were to ask me, you lack both.”

Alfred’s expression turned sour at that, and he almost looked like a ripe tomato with how angered he looked, “I don’t want to hear those things from you, especially not from you.”

“I have every right to reprimand someone like you, especially if you are besmirching the art of swordplay with your flimsy actions.” Yerin coldly responds, “We train day in and day out to reach the level of skill befitting of a knight of the King's Guard. If you don’t need my advice then so be it, prove me wrong with your sword next time.”

She straightens her shoulders and walks off, the instructor looking uneasily between her and the viscount’s son, unsure of how to proceed with the atmosphere so heavy. In the end, he decided to declare training to be over and advised Alfred to ‘get some fresh air’.

“You were quite harsh to him.” Eunbi remarks as they pass through each other on the way to the stables.

Yerin scoffs, “You should see our captain.” she shakes her head.

“Exactly what I mean.” the daughter says, “It wasn’t enough. Things like that should be drilled into their heads—with force if necessary.”

The knight turns to her in mild surprise before barking out a laugh, “I’ll do my worst next time then.”

The noble didn’t make a remark in reply, however, the small smirk gracing her face was all the answer Yerin needed.

Since their encounter the previous night, things have been going quite well for the two, given that Eunbi still reveled in the feeling of cutting Yerin with words that cut deeper than a machete, a sort of understanding has surfaced and the knight has started to learn to read between the lines, like how Eunbi showed care by saying the exact opposite, or by complimenting her appearance by saying she looked hideous in them. Though she had no way of confirming whether Eunbi was being honest or just shy by shooting her with glares matched with sharp words, overall, the knight was having a great time and it was getting more and more enjoyable spending time with the noble. She considers their daily banter the highlight of her day.

Despite that, they never exactly addressed the elephant in the room, and both of them knew that the truth had already come to light. Eunbi was the Black Rose, or one of them at least, and she was the one Yerin had been looking for. Normally Yerin would be eager to confront her about it, but given the circumstances: their captain being involved, the existence of a scheme that runs deeper than what it seems, one that involves the nobles and royal family… there was simply no way for her to bring it up casually like an everyday conversation.

And thus, she chooses to wait. And besides with how Sojung said it, she made it seem that she was not the one pulling the strings.

Other than that, Yuna was also recovering nicely, Yerin still felt the occasional sting from her wound but was otherwise capable of movement and was good enough to get back to training, though it was mostly by herself since her fellow knight was still not in the best condition to be moving too much.

What she would give to have Eunbi as a sparring partner. She would most likely be sent back to the infirmary in minutes, but what was important was the experience.

“Pardon me for asking, but where are you headed milady?” Yerin questions, noticing that they were headed in the same direction.

“For a walk.”

Yerin tilts her head, “Without Yewon?”

“Yewon is busy studying.” she replies shortly.

“Oh, then—”

“No.”

“I haven’t even said anything yet?”

Eunbi directs a glare in her direction, “I know you will be asking to join me, so no, I would like to be alone.”

Yerin blinks once, twice, before nodding, “Understood, I hope you have a pleasant walk then, milady.” The both of them finally reach the stables

Said knight bows, before heading in the opposite direction with a smile on her face. The noble also stops in her tracks, unable to mask her surprise at the answer. Eunbi watches as Yerin approaches a nearby servant and shares a brief conversation before they head inside the manor.

The Viscount’s daughter looks on in confusion, she was quite sure that Yerin was going to push to join her, so why…? The change in behavior felt unnerving.

Nevertheless, she did have important business to attend to and if the knight was pushy, she would have asked her to leave her alone anyway. She can’t complain when things are easier to deal with.

She heads straight for the back garden, towards the same spot where Yerin had caught her trying to knit a blanket for Yewon. It was the one spot in the whole estate that provided her the privacy she needed as even her own room did a poor job at that. She’s convinced that the walls are thin and that the servants can eavesdrop on all sorts of conversation that occurs within their home. Her spot allows her a full view of the garden and would allow her to spot anyone who would approach with ease.

Once she is convinced that she is alone, she takes out a piece of paper hidden within the sleeve of her dress and reads the short message written within it.

How did you know?

Nevertheless, she has refused. Continue as you were.

Eunbi just rolls her eyes and folds the paper up once more burying it underneath the soil, making sure to water the area to remove any form of evidence. Burning was easier, but it would be obvious if she were to do it in the garden.

Nevertheless, she’ll be sure to send a reply while explaining how exactly she wasn’t the most subtle person in the world.

Eunbi straightened herself once the task was done, looking around the garden once more to make sure no one was watching. Once it was clear, she heaved out a sigh whispering to herself.

“Shame.” she mumbles, “They would have been a huge help.”

---

“Sojung hasn’t sent a message to you yet?” Yuna asks once Yerin enters her quarters. Said younger knight was resting, still recovering from her injuries.

“Obviously not.” her fellow knight answers, “Because that would mean that you would force yourself out of that bed and worsen your condition.”

“I’m healthy as a—”

“Healthy as an old lady having difficulty sitting down on a chair, now behave yourself.”

“Never would I have thought you would tell me to behave.”

Yerin flicks her forehead gently, to which she flinches in surprise, “We both know how stubborn you get when it comes to some things. Nevertheless, don’t bother forcing yourself, Sojung will make it clear if she trusts us or not.”

The younger knight sighs, “It makes me feel antsy that something is going on but we’re being forced to stay put.”

“I know where you’re coming from. Unfortunately, that is our fate for now. Captain’s orders.” Yerin shrugs.

“…What if she refuses?”

“I’m sure she wouldn’t, but I wouldn’t know about the person she is working for. Speaking of the captain, there is something that has been bothering me for a while, Yuna.” Yerin takes her seat on a nearby chair while Yuna shifts slightly so she can stare at the older woman better, “About your fight with Sojung that night.”

“What about it?”

“Why did you hold back?”

Yuna stares.

“Because she is a skilled knight?”

“I know that, however, we both know that you are more than capable of going toe to toe with her.” Yerin says, “Sojung herself told me that you are more than capable of defeating her in a duel, however here you are bruised and beaten and none for the worse so I’m assuming you held back during that fight. So I want to know why.”

Yuna sighs, “Nothing ever gets past you.” Yuna hums slightly, thinking of her answer before finally replying, “Let’s just say that I let down my guard the moment I realized it was her.

“I was surprised. I attacked on the premise that my opponent was a criminal however the moment I realized it was Sojung, all I could think about was why she was doing such a thing. I was more focused on getting answers than defeating her, however you cannot underestimate a knight backed to a corner.” Yuna muses, “Sojung fought like her life depended on it, while I fought to seek answers. If we cannot agree on the purpose of our fight, then it was visible that she will emerge victorious.”

“I guess it makes sense. I’m surprised you didn’t just talk to her the moment you knew it was her underneath the mask.”

“Oh, I did and she just stabbed at me.”

“That sounds just like her.”

The knights share a laugh at that.

“At the very least she was sensible enough to leave you with your limbs intact.” the older knight mumbles, “If it was me, she wouldn’t have hesitated to dig up my grave for me.”

“You give the captain too little credit, Yerin. We are not their targets in the first place.”

“The whole thing just makes me more confused and curious. Just what in the world are they planning in the shadows?”

The two knights fall silent, their minds mulling over the matter at hand. Their line of work always had many things to do with things going on behind the scenes that the kingdom didn’t want the general citizenry to know, which is why it was quite a change in scenery to be on the receiving end for once. It’s uncomfortable knowing something was going on yet not knowing anything.

“I feel the urge to investigate the Viscount…” Yerin suddenly blurts out, earning a surprised look from Yuna who doesn’t waste time reprimanding her for even thinking about such a thing in the first place. The last thing they want is to jeopardize whatever their captain is doing.

They knew Sojung and knew that she wouldn’t act on something without sufficient reason and it’s always been for the good of the kingdom.

“I know what you’re going to say.” the knight interrupts her before Yuna can manage to scold her more, “But it unsettles me that the Viscount has hidden horns that we can see but are unable to do anything about it. I won’t do anything drastic, the fact that she is working with Eunbi means that they’ve dug enough within their own home for the Viscount’s activities…”

“That’s true.” Yuna lowers her voice, “If Eunbi has the home covered and Sojung is handling the affairs of the kingdom, then it means that the only part they’ve left to investigate is their movements outside the walls of both their estate and the city. However, we can’t just move around without knowing where to go, Yerin, if we want to investigate, we will need information.”

The older knight turns to the other in mild surprise, not expecting the other person to be so onboard with the idea, “I’m surprised you’re actually agreeing with me in this.”

“I was against the possibility of you snooping around the home where we have a high chance of getting caught, but I more or less agree with you.” She rolls her eyes as she says this, “Anyway, we can’t do anything if we don’t know anything. The first thing we should do is their purpose for doing this.”

“I feel that to be the more difficult step.”

“Of course, it is because the only people who know wouldn’t dare tell you anything.”

Yerin falls silent for a little while, her fellow knight seeing that she was in deep in thought until she speaks again.

“Is there any chance that Alfred knows what is going on?” Yerin mumbles to herself.

“From what I see, Alfred doesn’t seem to be the type of person who is trustworthy enough to be entrusted with secrets that can harm their family.”

“But he is soon to be the next in line for the Kims.” Yerin reasons, “One way or another, they will have to let him in on the secret, whatever it is…”

“Let’s suppose that what you’re saying is true, what do you plan to do about it?”

The older knight falls silent for a bit before sighing, “I’m already regretting it just thinking about what I have in mind.”

“And what do you have in mind?” Yuna asks, although she already has an idea on where the conversation is going.

“Take advantage of me being appointed as his babysitter and befriend him.”

“This is already a bad idea.” Yuna immediately objects, “All of us know how much you dislike each other. If you suddenly befriend him, everyone will be suspicious.”

Yerin grumbles, seeing the point in what she said, “I can’t think of any other way to get information. Sojung’s mouth is shut, Yewon and Eunbi will never tell us anything and of course, we can’t confront the viscount regarding this. It frustrates me that the only option we have is to wait.”

Yuna pauses for a bit, understanding her fellow knight’s plight and knowing that not doing anything frustrates her just as much as Yerin does.

“…What about the servants?” the younger suddenly speaks up, turning to her, Yerin mirrors her action.

“Huh. Surely they may know a thing or two…” they ponder about it a little more, “We’ve always been friendly with the guards and the servants so it wouldn’t be a surprise to befriend them and try to gather information from them…”

Yerin nods in agreement, “I’ll handle the maids, you handle the guards.”

Yuna rolls her eyes, “Why am I not surprised you would go for the women…”

---

Yerin wasn’t expecting much when she finally tried to gather information on the family’s activities. Given how careful they were when it came to protecting their reputation, she was quite sure that the servants wouldn’t have any idea on what was going on, thus she was prepared to get the bare minimum that she could get.

But she never expected the servants to know more than they let on. It turns out that the Kims aren’t that good at keeping secrets, they just have a tight hold on their servants to make sure none of the information she managed to gather makes it out of the estate.

And thus, the Kims’ reputation remains as pristine to the general citizenry.

She’s also surprised by how loose-lipped the servants are once she gave them her unwavering attention. All she needed to do was to sympathize with the servants’ struggles, one that involved being under the threat of death if they so much as thought of betraying the Kims. In other words, their families are in danger just by being under the service of the family. That alone was enough motivation for them to bring their secrets to the grave. She wonders if they ever forgot that she was a knight in direct service to the King while they were sharing their woes.

Perhaps they were hoping that she would be able to help them.

Nonetheless, she more or less managed to get the gist of what was going on, or at the very least an idea on what may be part of a large scheme.

But it doesn’t explain Eunbi’s involvement or Yewon’s for that matter. She understood that the Viscount wanted a part of the power should they be able to pull off their plans.

It was nearing twilight when she steps foot outside the Kim’s residence, the front garden barely lit up by the setting sun. Hints of starlight started to litter the vast expanse of the sky and she couldn’t help but feel a sense of serenity at the sight. It was silent, there were barely any signs of people that may disturb her inner musings. It seemed like a good time to take a stroll outside.

Breathing in the fresh air, she makes her way to wherever her feet take her, uncaring on where she may end up in. Being a little too friendly with the servants just to get the information she needed and getting a long tale of their struggles and sufferings in return was a tad bit overwhelming for her so the silence was more than welcome.

Still, it does nothing to stop her mind from thinking of the things she discovered.

The Kims aren’t innocent, that much is true.

It all starts from the inner conflict between the nobles and the royalty as well as the widening rift between the commoners and the nobles. The current king has always valued his citizens, and that is why she wanted to be a knight in the first place. Normally, those who are born in nobility are the ones privileged to have the title, but the King valued skill over upbringing and status, which is why Yuna was able to get the position. The same can be said for all the knights of the King’s Guard. Not all were of noble status, but their skills and values certainly made up for it.

However, it seems a bunch of the nobles dislike the fact that some commoners are making their way up in society and dislike the current methods and reign of the King.

This has been common information for the ones within the King’s Guard, she just did not know how deep the scheme ran. At the very least, she now knows that the Kims are part of the nobles who are against it. Based on what she gathered from the servants, the Viscount was just one of the many nobles opposed to His Majesty, but what was more surprising is that the Viscount was not the one spearheading the entire thing. The only other people that are of higher status than the Viscount are the King’s family, the Count, the Marquis, and the Duke. Yerin all knew that the Duke, the Marquis, and the Count all supported the King unless they had a change of heart, but that was highly unlikely.

That only narrows the options further, but it was useless to think about it. Not when there’s nothing she can do about it in her current state.

Nevertheless, the servants have revealed that they are trying to instigate something close to a plot against the current King, and as his guard, she has all the right to try stopping it. The downside, however, is that she has no proof. The Kims are just one of many, what she needs in order to fully stop the threat to His Majesty’s life is to determine who the mastermind is.

She’s sure that that’s what Sojung is onto now, as well as that person supporting her behind the scenes. Which brings her back to the involvement of Eunbi and Yewon. If their father was part of those opposed to the King, then why are they working against him?

She heaves out a sigh as she relaxes under a tree. All this thinking is making her head hurt.

Perhaps the reason why Sojung’s hesitant to include them is because not only is she not at liberty to divulge the whole thing, but perhaps the person supporting her does not know who to trust.

The fewer people who know the better.

Which ultimately still brings her back to the question of why Eunbi and Yewon are involved.

She understands that Sojung perhaps needed an insider within the estate but planting a spy among the servants should be enough with how much information the servants have provided her from. But what she sees, Eunbi and Yewon are more than just spies for Viscount Kim. He isn’t even a person of position to the group that he is part of.

Nevertheless, it at least answers the question of what is going on behind the scenes and the Viscount’s involvement in it.

She hopes that Yuna will have better luck.

“Chevalière?”

The knight immediately looks up at the sound of her name and sees the younger Kim approaching, her figure wrapped in the blanket that she realizes was Eunbi’s present for her. Offering her a smile, she stands up to greet the noble.

“A pleasant evening Yewon, what brings you here?”

“I could ask you the same thing. As for me, I merely fancied myself a stroll in the garden.”

“It looks like we thought the same then.” Yerin snaps off her cape and lays it on the grass, gesturing for Yewon to sit. The younger woman thanks her, taking her place on the spot provided only to surprise the knight when she drapes the blanket on both of their shoulders.

“You offered me your cape, I offer you my blanket.” Yewon tells her before she can protest, “Consider us even.”

Yerin laughs, “Far be it for me to refuse your kind offer. Thank you for your kindness, milady.”

“So? What brings the esteemed Dame Yerin brooding in such a corner?”

“I wasn’t brooding.” Yerin pouts slightly, “I was merely taking advantage of the silence to have time for myself. It’s been hectic ever since our return from the city.”

“Are you still unwell? Eunbi told me that you sustained heavy injuries.” Yewon asks worriedly which the knight dismisses with a wave of her hand.

“I feel sore in some places but I am otherwise completely recovered. You need not worry for my well-being.”

“Don’t say that. You and Yuna are doing all you can to protect us, regardless of whether it is the King’s orders or not, it’s only normal that we worry about you.” Yewon leans back slightly, gazing up at the sky, “I’m glad to hear that you are recovering nicely at least.”

Yerin falls silent, wondering if the younger Kim has any idea that they are already aware of her involvement. From what she could see, it seems that Eunbi hasn’t told her yet, or if she does know, then she continues to feign ignorance.

This neither felt like the right time nor place to interrogate her.

Therefore Yerin does the only thing she knows how to do.

“My recovery is further hastened by your presence, milady.”

Yewon chuckles, “I think Eunbi was right, you do have a way with words Dame Yerin.”

“Oh. Does Eunbi frequently talk to you about me?” Yerin brightens a little.

“More often than not.”

Yerin brightens even more.

“Which begs the question…”

Yewon turns to her, the knight suddenly stopping at the serious expression on the younger’s face.

“What are your actual intentions with my sister, Dame Yerin?”

Her smile immediately drops, “Whatever do you mean?”

“I would be blind not to see what is going on.” Yewon sighs, “Therefore before I approve of… whatever it is, I would like to know your intentions first and foremost.”

Yerin blinks, leaning back slightly, surprised by the sudden question that she hasn’t even had time to ponder on yet. She’s been too preoccupied with proving Eunbi’s identity as the Black Rose, then overcome by all the information that she has just gotten her hands on that she never thought about such a thing in the first place.

It would be a lie to say that she wasn’t attracted, however, the other party has a penchant for giving her mixed signals. One time she is soft, the next she’s already stabbing her with knives. As much of a flirt as she is by nature, she always makes it clear whether to remain friends with the person or to pursue them, but it will always depend on how the other party receives her advances.

On that note, she has not a single clue on how to respond to Eunbi’s behavior towards her.

Yerin ponders about it a little more before deciding on an answer, “To be frank with you, Yewon I find your sister beautiful that it wouldn’t be far off that I would openly pursue her, however—” she interrupts the moment the younger sibling opens to speak, “I wish to be a friend and to be someone she trusts before going to that step. I feel someone undeserving of such a person at the moment, therefore it would be best that I prove myself first.”

The younger noble pauses for a bit, seemingly deciding on what to say before she nods, “I see... As long as you’re not just saying this just to get into my good graces…”

Yerin laughs a bit, “It may seem that way, but I know my limitations.”

“…I can accept that.” Yewon sighs, “Apologies for antagonizing you unnecessarily Dame Yerin. I just wish to make sure that you’re not taking advantage of my sister’s innocence.”

“Not at all, I find it endearing how the both of you are so protective of each other.” Yerin smiles, “She told me to stay away from you the first time we met, and now you’re acting the same way. It merely shows how much you care for each other and I admire that. I know I would do the same for my sister any time of the day.”

“That’s true. Eunha never stopped talking the moment the topic came to you.” Yewon smiles, reminiscing.

“I take it you’re well acquainted with my sister then?”

“Since she’s the princess’s head maid, I’ve had the pleasure of being in her presence plenty of times. Nevertheless, if Eunha has high opinions of you, then I shall choose to trust you as well Dame Yerin.” Yewon twists in her position to face the knight properly, “Take it as a request from me. Please… protect my sister.”

Yerin holds a hand to her chest and bows slightly, “Of course, with my life if need be. And not only her, Madame Yewon, but I shall make sure to protect you as well with all that I have.”

As heartfelt as the whole thing was, Yerin was pretty sure that Eunbi would be the one protecting her if the situation permitted it. Still, now that she has a vague idea of what the sisters are involved in, they are acting for the benefit of the King and its citizens. Not only as a knight of King’s Guard but also as Yerin who believes in righteousness and justice, she swears upon her name to protect them and support them with all that she can.

“Now, I believe that we have overstayed.” Yerin tells her before getting off the ground and offering Yewon a hand as she assists her, “It’s getting dark and chilly, it would be best for us to head indoors.”

“I agree.” the noble nods, wrapping the blanket around her once more, “I had a pleasant evening, Dame Yerin. Perhaps we can have Yuna join us next time.”

“Are you sure you don’t wish to spend the evening with Yuna alone, Yewon? I can arrange for that.”

Yerin revels in the blush that decorates the younger woman’s face. Despite it being dark, it was practically obvious as day.

“Stop that.” the younger whines, earning a laugh from the older.

“It seems Eunbi has to be more wary of Yuna than me.”

“Yerin!”

The older grins, “Apologies, you’re just adorable like this. It reminds me of Eunha in some way.” Yerin looks at her fondly. She then stoops down to retrieve her cape and shakes the dirt off of it before donning the material around her shoulders, “Let’s head back?”

Yewon, having calmed down, nods in agreement. The two trudged back to the estate, making small conversation on the way. It was fairly a short walk and not before long they were bidding each other farewell.

“Where did you go off to?” Yuna greets as soon as Yerin closes the door to their chambers.

“I needed the fresh air.” the knight replies, draping her cape over a chair and sitting on the bed opposite her companion’s, “Today has been quite eventful.”

“I take you also managed to figure out a lot of things?”

“A lot of things is an understatement. You?”

Yuna nods, “The guards have a lot to say.”

Yerin groans, leaning back until her back hits the mattress of her bed, “Some people just don’t deserve the power they have…”

---

As Yewon trudges back to her own chambers, a smile permanently plastered on her face as she reminisces her evening with the knight, she slowly opens the door only to jump at the sight of Eunbi already standing on the other side of the door.

Arms folded across her chest, she asks with a frown, “Did you enjoy your talk with Yerin so much that you forgot dinner?”
