// blessing in bandages
the land beneath, the sky above
“Unnie? Why’s your right hand bandaged?”
Chaewon grimaces, gaze averting away and non-bandaged hand sheepishly scratching her neck. “That’s—um. It’s, um—”
Hitomi blinks, willing to wait for a coherent answer. Something Chaewon realises after a long beat, because she then lets out a deep sigh,
“Remember how—well, remember when I promised to bake you something? So I tried to bread.”
Hitomi smiles, equally concerned and amused. “Okay…?”
“I might have, um, tried to take out the tray bare-handed.”
In place of a cackle (that Yena did at the time of accident), Hitomi gasps and gingerly takes the bandaged hand.
“It’s alright,” Chaewon says, embarrassed. “Just a slight burn.” But she doesn’t shake her off, and Hitomi takes it as a permission, holding her hand for a long time.
(Maybe she won’t give up on baking just yet.)
