The next morning, Ryosuke, Rio, Daiki, and Amu sat around the couch in silence, glancing into the same direction towards the telivision. They all held a cup of coffee in their hands but not one person took a sip. Everyone was just too occupied with trying to find out what exactly happened to their apartments last night.
Right after the fire was put out, Ryosuke called their new band manager to ask for help with accomodation. Rio and Ryosuke were surprised to find out that Daiki had also just contacted their manager regarding the fire in their own apartment.
At that point, they knew it was too much of a coincidence to be called an "accident".
Immediately, their manager booked a private hotel suite with two bedrooms so that the two couples could safely be together. They were also informed not to rent out any apartments in the meantime. Afterall if anything happens, they would be able to safely move from one location to another.
This morning, their manager dropped by early to deliver breakfast as well as some extra clothes and necessities from Uniqlo and the convenience store. It wasn't the most fashionable or the highest of quality but it was certainly one of the cheapest, especially since no income will be coming in anytime soon. JUMP's activities were suspended for their safety and Rio and Amu had to request temporary leave from their jobs.
Meanwhile, social media had already given them the nickname, "The Unfortunate Ones" and every news outlet were talking about how the apartments of two Hey! Say! JUMP members were destroyed in the fire. Everyone knew that the fire was set by an arsonist but no one could seem to figure out who did it.
Ryosuke, Rio, Amu, and Daiki had been spending the entire morning brainstorming a list of possible leads. However Rio and Amu couldn't seem to shake the thought of two particular suspects from their minds: Satoko and Mayu
"... Could it actually be them?" Rio commented, refusing to mention their names.
"To be honest, I don't think it is." Ryosuke replied, feeling slightly guilty for not taking her side.
"I don't think it's them either." Daiki added, backing Ryosuke up. "They're manipulative for sure but I don't think they're the type to make a crime that obvious."
"How can you be so sure though?" Amu protested. "Just a month ago, Mayu was eavesdropping on all of our conversations and geez, Satoko nearly sent Rio all the way back to London!"
"I know that the both of you are still worried, and trust me- Daiki and I are too but... you know we've actually dated them for a while..." Ryosuke paused then glanced at Daiki for help in expressing what they both thought.
"... Meaning we know who they really are and why they chose to act the way they did." Daiki added. "There's always a reason behind someone's actions and for them, they've just had bad relationships in the past which was why they were unreasonably protective over us."
"Oh, so both of you are suddenly on their side." Rio concluded, feeling as if the guys had completed trampled all over her feelings.
"It's not that we're on their side, I just think it's better not to suddenly point fingers at people without evidence." Ryosuke protested.
"I don't get it either. Literally up until today, the both of you were completely against them. You can't suddenly change your opinions about them unless something happened." Amu pointed out, catching the guys off guard.
As soon as they froze, Rio rolled her eyes and placed her coffee cup on the table. "You two better spit it out."
"Well uh..." Daiki began, pausing to glance at Ryosuke. The younger boy sighed in defeat and nodded, giving Daiki the permission to continue and so he did. "We visited them at the detention center a week ago..."
"YOU DID WHAT?!" The two girls exclaimed in sync.
"Weren't you guys super busy? How did both of you have the time?" Amu asked.
"We went during our lunch break at work. We visited them because we wanted to make sure that they wouldn't get near the four of us anymore." Ryosuke explained.
"Why didn't you tell us to begin with?" Rio asked.
"We just didn't want to worry the both of you."
"So you two just decided to keep something like this a secret?" Rio sighed. "Ryosuke, you promised me that there would be no more secrets between us. That was the only promise you made to me ever since we got back together and you've already broken it." She added, standing up from her seat to pace around. "Have you already forgotten the reason why you broke up with me three years ago to begin with?
"Because of the fake threats.." Ryosuke softly answered back.
Rio shook her head. "The threats were surely a factor but if you hadn't kept it from me, we wouldn't have gone through all of the hardships. In other words, keeping secrets like these are the reasons why we don't have a normal life and I'm honestly disappointed that you haven't learned from your mistake the first time."
"Rio..." Ryosuke protested when she began to throw her coat on. "Where are you going?"
"I need a breath of fresh air to clear everything off my mind. My emotions are clouded right now and I don't want to say anything to you that I don't mean."
"Our manager told us not to leave this room for any reason. It can be dangerous."
"Ryosuke, he's your manager- not mine. Besides...." She said, throwing her backpack on. "I'll just ask Yuto to accompany me for a bit."
"Yuto?" Ryosuke repeated in a confused tone.
"We talked yesterday to catch up on some things. It's nice to finally have my old friends to talk to again." She said before slamming the hotel door shut.
"Dude..." Daiki began, a few seconds after she left. "What did you just do?"
Ryosuke heavily sighed and fell back onto the sofa. He leaned over and buried his face in his hands. "I don't know... Did I screw up again?"
Before Daiki was able to reply, Amu stood up and grabbed her own jacket.
"Amu?" Daiki called out to her.
"I'm going to accompany Rio-chan for now." Amu answered. "I don't want her to be alone while she waits for Yuto."
"Oh, then I'll go with you then. I don't want you to be alone when she leaves." He said, grabbing his own coat.
"Dai-chan, don't think you're off the hook. You broke your promise to me too and it hurts. I'm just trying my hardest right now not to show it."
Amu's sudden statement caught the latter off guard and he froze in place, watching her slip her boots on. "I'll ask Chii to keep me company for a bit." She added.
"Chinen? Why him out off all people?" Daiki asked, feeling jealousy arise once more. It has been a while since he heard Chinen's name come out of Amu's mouth. She made it clear to him that she no longer carries feelings for his close friend but he couldn't help but to suddenly feel inadequate.
"He's the only one I have left asides from Rio-chan. If you can't be a man and see him as just my childhood friend then that's a seperate conversation we need to have." She said, before slamming the door in their faces.
