Chapter 6

When A Heart Is Broken

Friday night.

Usually I would be blowing up Yong Guk’s phone, telling him how I couldn’t wait for him to come over for the weekend, but at the moment I was staring at my ceiling, wondering what to do with myself. What did single people do on the weekends? It had been so long that I couldn’t even remember.

I got up and decided that I would order some take out and then take a long, hot bath full of bubbles and just pamper myself. My toenails were in dire need of a paintjob as well. Halfway through my trip to the kitchen I felt as though my plans sounded pitiful so I retreated back to my room, the TV, and hoped to just fall asleep quickly.

It was during one of the Fast and the Furious movies that a plan started to come together. The girls were on screen in their bikinis, walking through lines of souped up cars when I decided that I was going out. No wallowing. No pity party. I was getting dressed up and dancing on a fine stranger and maybe getting laid. And I definitely wasn’t going to think about that bull Yong Guk said about acting out to get his attention.

I let my security detail – Kyung tonight – know I was going out, and then in a burst of inspiration, sent an invitation to Himchan. He accepted, letting me know he’d meet me at the club. That done, I hurried to shower and find a suitable outfit. An hour later I was walking up to the street to the club.

Himchan was already sitting at the bar with an electric blue drink in hand when I found him. I couldn’t help but flash him a flirty smile, knowing he was definitely getting an eyeful. Push up bras do wonders and I wasn’t wearing much else over mine.

“You look good,” Himchan finally said.

“Thank you, Channie. Let’s dance.”

I grabbed his hand and pulled him onto the dance floor, close to the DJ booth. The song was fast and we moved together easily. Himchan was a good dancer, surprisingly. Song after song we bumped and grinded. A couple guys approached and tried to lure me away from Himchan, but he wasn’t having that. He would wrap his arm around my waist, or nuzzle his face into my neck – anything to show possession of me. I would be lying if I said I didn’t like it. I was so into it, actually, that when his grip on me tightened for the umpteenth time I didn’t pay much attention…until a familiar voice sounded in my ears.

“What the are you doing?”

I knew that voice. Glancing up, none other than Yong Guk was standing in front of me looking pissed off. I ignored him and moved even closer to Himchan until he grabbed my arm and pulled me outside.

“What are you doing in there with Himchan?” Yong Guk demanded.

My arm stung where he’d grabbed it and I rubbed the spot while answering him nonchalantly. “I was dancing. What do you think I was doing?”

“You don’t need to be on him like that! He’s my best friend! How could you do that?”

“Excuse me? What was that? Did you just say something about crossing boundaries with best friends? you,Yong Guk.”

“You don’t mean that.”

“I don’t?” I looked him up and down. “What I do now is none of your business, or did you forget that you gave up the right to worry about my actions when you impregnated Kaci?”

Yong Guk sighed as though he was tired. “I know I made a mistake, okay? You don’t have to go to these lengths to get my attention.”

I rolled my eyes. “I never knew your ego was so big. I don’t need your attention. I was trying to have a good time, which I was going before somebody had to show up. How did you know where we were anyway?”

He mumbled a reply.

“Speak up. You know I hate when you do that.”

“I got a message.”

Hmm. I had an idea who that came from.

“Sorry to burst your bubble, but I’m not trying to get your attention. I came out with Himchan simply because I always thought he was fun. He’s a good dancer.” I added with a shrug. “Besides, I’m single. I can party and whatever else I want to do.”

“What about that guy from the other day? What was his name, Jiho?”

“What about him?”

“Just what are you two exactly?”

“I feel like a broken record. How many times do I have to tell you that’s none of your business?”

“Listen Lita, we’re going to have to talk about this sooner or later.”

“Hey baby, there you are.” I turned to see Himchan approaching, a self-assured smirk on his face. He was up to something, and I was more than happy to play along. He walked up to the two of us and slung his arm around my waist. “You wanna drink? Why don’t you go on back to the bar and save me a seat, okay? I gotta talk to my boy for a second.”

I nodded, turned to walk off, but before I could take two steps away, Himchan slapped my like it was nothing. I was a bit shocked, but I kept going like it was nothing. I couldn’t hear either of them say anything as I walked away. As I sat at the bar and took a shot I couldn’t help but be pleased by how things were turning out. Good thing I didn’t stay at home.
