Seulgi took the same train everyday. If she tried to catch the earlier one, she and her roommate would battle for the bathroom more often than not. If she waited for the next one, she found there were too many people and she’d feel too rushed getting to her first class. 

But there might be another reason too. 

Because, something happened on the 7:20 train that didn’t happen on the the 7:10 or the 7:30 train. And that something was named Joohyun. 

Of course, Seulgi hadn’t known Joohyun before she started her early classes that semester and had to take the 7:20 train. Even when she did, Seulgi had only noticed her standing on the platform a couple stops past her own as she stared out the window one particular morning. Joohyun wasn’t just another commuter. Most people traveling to work or school in the mornings were rushed and slightly agitated, and Seulgi did well to keep to herself. She tried not to make eye contact with anyone, and if she did, she would bow her head in respect before looking away. If the seating filled up, which it usually didn’t, Seulgi would always offer her seat to the next person boarding the train, no matter their age or status. Seulgi did her best to remain invisible. 

But Joohyun wasn’t rushed or agitated. She never hurried to board the train and always lazily fell onto a seat. Some days she’d pull out her phone, fingers tapping away incessantly at the screen. Other days she would lean up against the window and stare and the concrete tunnel whizzing past. Seulgi tried not to stare, but this was Joohyun. When she stepped anywhere, eyes followed.
