Day 1

Falling For You

Yena let out a quiet yawn as she laid her head down on the wooden table. She was currently stressing over her music notes in the shared practice room that all music students had access too. Decked in her sweats and yellow hoodie she was absolutely comfortable. Technically she would have been- she had a reoccurring headache for the past week. She had spent the last 7 days trying to study ahead for the new semester, yet she already had trouble understanding the concepts and new musical terminology.

Yena was never the studious type. Words and information would always clutter and jumble up in her head. If anything she would only be able to retain information kinaesthetically. Thankfully, with her numerous years of hanging around her elementary and high school choirs, she was able to understand musical terms when used before her.

Yena glared at her Releasing Tension and Solving It worksheet and resisted the urge to burn her textbook and notes. "Honestly screw music theory at this point." Yena grumbled, "Why does it have to be so book based? This is literally almost as bad as 18th Century Music class. "

I'm literally not going to make any progress today. Might as well take it easy then.

Yena glanced at her watch.

It's only 4:30. Chayeon's probably still in clubroom studio practicing with Eunbi. Those two better not overwork themselves on the first day of the semester. Hyewon and Yujin might be in the computer lab though?

Yena, twisted around in her seat to double check the date on the calendar behind her. Her eyes halted upon a big red circled marked around tomorrows date. Tilting her head in confusion, she wracked her brain for any important details she could have missed. She was miffed. Important events never ever occurred near the beginning of the semester.

Carpe diem I guess then. Hopefully something exciting will happen tomorrow. For now I guess I'll try to burn off some steam with some games.

Nodding her head in satisfaction with her decision, she swiftly shoved her books and scattered papers into her backpack. She hastily turned off the lights and exited the practice room into the university's halls.

-

Yuri exhaled a long sigh as the crushed paper she tossed soared over her trash can......again. Her side of the room was littered with numerous crumpled balls of paper. Her trusty guitar laid on her lap. And she knew that she just wasted those precious few hours writing nothing. She was definitely in a stump. And there was nothing she could do to get out of it. She only had a slump once, and the cure for it was honestly a miracle. There was no chance in hell that she would be able to witness her seniors perform in front of her. There was mostly a one out of a million chance of that ever occurring again. Why would that be a 0% chance? Yuri was shy. She knew she'd never have enough courage to ask a senior for help.

Suddenly the door slowly squeaked open and a head popped into view. "Yuri are you still working on a new piece?"

Yuri nodded her head. "Sadly yeah, nothing I write seems to click." Yuri motioned for her room mate to enter. "I might just transfer to the practice rooms and hog a piano though. I might get a spark with a different instrument. Sorry if I made our room a little messy Minju."

Minju plopped down on her bed across from Yuri and faced her. "Nah it's fine. I just hope you get out of your slump. We both know I'm just as bad as you are when it comes to conversing with our seniors."

Both girls smiled at each other and let a laugh. Yuri got up to stretch and proceed to properly clean the room and rid evidence of the mini paper tornado that previously took place. "Hey Minju....Did you happen to hear about a rumour of a cross-major project with all of the fine arts students?"

"Actually I heard about it too? Everyone in my major says that it'll be a duo project!"

"I feel like a duo project would be too personal."

"To be fair, our school doesn't even have that many fine arts students though. It's probably easier to do groups of two. If you compare the amount of fine arts students to anything else in the school we'd definitely be at least 75% smaller." Yuri furrowed her eyebrows in thought as she tossed the last remaining crumpled paper into the trash bin. "I wonder if they'll let us pick our partners."

She turned around and faced an amused Minju. Minju raised a humoured eyebrow at a confused Yuri. "What's that look for Minju?"

"You so definitely want to be partners with Yena." Minju cheekily stated.

Yuri's face slowly lit up bright pink. The poor girl hid her face in embarrassment. "Yah, you didn't have to say it out loud though." She let out a breathy sigh as she thought about her Unnie. Her words came out a little muffled as her hands covered her face. "She's just so talented Minju- her performances are just so mind blowing, y'know?"

"Sureeeeee."

Yuri pouted and playfully shoved Minju who laid peacefully on the bed. She then grabbed her notebook and backpack and hurried away. Minju just laughed and watched the flustered girl leave.

"Make sure to not stay there overnight again Yuri!"

Yuri waved behind her with her notebook as she approached the door, "No promises, but I'll try!"

-

Yuri tiredly opened the door to her usual practice room. She tossed her bag into the corner of the room and slid her notebook onto the wooden table. As she sat down in her chair she heard the crinkling of paper. Glancing down at her feet was a sheet of paper with random writings on it. Curiously, Yuri picked it up and scanned it.

The page was littered with random lyrics, side notes, and duck doodles? She found those doodles quite cute and couldn't help but like out a soft giggle. Her eyes were then drawn to a section at the bottom right of the page, which was lightly scribbled beside a chibi duck doodle.

This feeling has somehow captured me. Your voice is just enchanting me. Your smile is slowly haunting me. And every part of me is craving anything about you and I-

Yuri felt an instant connection to the words. This, this was what she was missing. These lyrics related to her entire being and she felt that. She felt the rise of a melody worm its way into her head. She felt a beat tap it's way out into her heart. She felt her fingertips itch to produce noise.

Yuri felt the sudden urge to create music, and it was surprisingly overwhelming. She quickly placed her hands on the piano and formed chords. She opened and freely let the lyrics flow out into a pop sounding melody.

Sure the song wasn't her usual style of ballad, but she found the melody to be pleasing with the interesting lyrics. She couldn't help but smile at the person that appeared in her mind as she sang.

Dear God, I really am whipped for her.
