Fridays meant that Seohyun would be in the hospital until the evening, while Kyuhyun would be out of the office in the afternoon, which only gives him enough  time to pick his daughter up from school and it would even give him an extra five to 10 minutes to spare before the students’ dismissal. Just like where the doctor would park, the lawyer also considered the across the school his parking spot. He stood outside the gate while tinkering on his phone as he waited for his daughter to finish class and this was definitely his favorite part of the week. As the school bell rang, he immediately tucked his phone in his coat pocket and waited for the students to exit the building. Upon spotting his daughter by the door, he gave her a huge smile and a wave and the little girl mimicked the gesture. He bent down to the little girl’s level in preparation to welcome her.

Soojin ran towards her dad and her tiny arms found her way around her dad’s neck. “Daddy!”

“My Soojin seems excited today.” He pinched his daughter’s cheek before placing a kiss on the where he pinched her.

She nodded while her eyes formed crescents as she smiled. “Because it’s Friday and Fridays are the best when daddy picks me up from school!”

Kyuhyun couldn’t help but smile. He put Soojin down and held her hand. “Let’s go?”

With a smile, she nodded and skipped as she took her first step as she walked with her dad towards their vehicle. “Daddy, I wanna go somewhere first. Is it alright if we go there?”

After getting her buckled up in her booster seat, he looked at his daughter before he replied. “Let me guess, you want to visit the metropolitan library, or did I get it wrong this time?

“You’re a really smart lawyer, daddy! That’s where I want to go!”

He only chuckled at his daughter. He already knew that this was her happy place and the other places that surrounded the library even made the little girl happier. The outside of the establishment alone had a huge field and there are times when he would run around with her just to play tag, but he did not mind. He knows how busy the nature of work that he is in and that she will not stay a kid forever, so he cherishes the time that he can run around with her. After all, reviewing cases and defending clients is far more tiring than running around with your child. “Let’s go,” he said as he prepared to drive with excitement. After all, today is Friday.

 

As the father-daughter duo sat in a table, with Kyuhyun reviewing another case and Soojin reading her third book, the sound of his first alarm rang. This meant that they only have 25 minutes before leaving the venue. This was the usual scene for the pair on Fridays whenever he would fetch his daughter from school. They would sit in silence together, with the little girl standing up occasionally to get books from the shelves and return the ones that she had just finished.

Soojin closed her book and stood up from her seat. “I’ll return this book now.”

“You’ve finished it?”

She nodded and walked off to return the book where she got it from.

Kyuhyun was stunned, but if she was not able finish a book, she would ask her dad if they could borrow it for the weekend. That was the case for the titles that she found really interesting and belonged to an advanced group from hers.

She sat across from her dad, making sure that she was in an upright position and just waited.

“What does our Soojin want to do now?”

“Daddy, is it okay if we go outside now, I want to take a walk around the field.” She formed little crescents in her eyes as she smiled at her dad.

The lawyer knew this very well; she seemed to smile so innocently, but he knew that she may have other things in mind other than walking. She really is the perfect combination of perfect, well-behaved and mischievous. “Alright, I’m going to keep these papers first.” He organized his papers neatly before putting them back in his briefcase.

Soojin walked with her dad while her tiny hand was in his, and as soon as she stepped on the green grass, she stopped in her tracks to look up at the man beside her. “Do you think you can race me until that person sitting there?”

He looked at the person at the girl was pointing at and heaved a sigh. He knew that this was going to happen. “On three?” However, he was still up for it. After all, he thought that there was no better way to officially start the weekend than spending quality time with your daughter who will not stay this little forever.

“Ready, 1, 2, 3!” Soojin dashed right away as soon as she finished her countdown, while her dad ran slowly behind her. This made her smile while running.

Kyuhyun always made sure to give his daughter a 5 second headstart before running during their race and making sure to run at a much slower speed. “I’ll make up for it when you’re a bit older and you won’t have tears,” he always thought.

As soon as she run past the person that she set as their marker, she started jumping. “I beat you, daddy! I won!”

He smiled as he reached her and carried her. “Great job, baby! Well done,” he gave her a kiss on the cheek and walked with the little girl still in his arms. Shortly after, a second sound from his phone was heard. It was getting darker and it means that they were just in time because it signaled that they needed to leave in just 10 minutes. As soon as they got in the car, he made sure that she was secure in her booster seat, then got on the driver side. “You ready?” He asked the girl through the rearview mirror and saw her nod enthusiastically, but she had just yawned. “Just go and sleep while we’re on the way, okay?”

She just rubbed her eyes and sleepily said okay. As soon as the engine started, she started to doze off. The drive did not take that long, however. The car already stopped, but she still took quote a while to open her eyes. When her eyes fluttered open, she saw her dad’s opened briefcase situated in the center console and the man was busy with reading. “Daddy, your eyes will be ruined. You did not even use the lights in the car.”

He found it funny to hear his five year old scold him, but he found it cute at the same time. “Sorry, baby. Daddy just needed to check something quickly, but I really won’t take long and just took a peek.” In reality, he did not want to disturb her sleep, thus using the light source outside from the parking lot to help him read. “You can still sleep some more.”

“I feel like waking up now. Can we do something fun?”

He already took this as his signal to keep the files that he was trying to read under the dimmed settings. “Alright, what shall we do next?”

Soojin thought for a bit, until she finally thought of something. “Let’s play I Spy! You’re also good at this daddy!”

“And you’re much better because you have the brain of a lawyer and a doctor combined.” He could only smile at his child and pinched her cheek, then placed his briefcase beside her in the backseat.

Her eyes wandered off to observe the place. “I spy with my little eye something green and vertical.”

“Is that the guard’s booth?”

“Correct! Your turn, daddy.”

He looked around from the inside of the car until he found something. “I spy with my little eye something striped.”

Soojin’s eyes fell on a bar that was hanging from the ceiling. “It’s that thing over there,” she pointed.

“Well done, Soojin!”

“Oh, I got a good one! I spy with my little eye, something white and moving.”

This honestly gave Kyuhyun a bit of chills as he tried looking for a car and there was none. He knew that kids can see ghosts, but he never expected it to be described to him by his child as they were playing. “Uh…” he was at a loss for words for once. A knock was soon heard on the other side of the car and this made him jump in his seat for a bit.

“Daddy, you lose! It’s mommy!”

He honestly felt dumb. “Well, oh, yeah. Of course, it is.” He unlocked the car door and allowed the woman in her white coat to enter the car. She was moving earlier since she was making her way towards the car. That makes perfect sense and he is mentally slapping himself.

“Hi mommy!”

“Hi, sweetie.” Seohyun reached for her daughter in the backseat to give her a kiss on the forehead. It was unlike her, but having a kid around made her less uptight and she didn’t mind. As soon as she sat herself properly, she made sure to buckle her own seatbelt. “Did you guys wait for a long time?”

“No,” the father-daughter duo answered in unison.

“We were just playing and I beat daddy before you arrived, mommy.” She smiled with pride and she was thrilled with doing so even if it was just a game.

“Oh, alright. Any ideas where we’ll have dinner?”

The little girl shrugged, not knowing what she wants to eat in particular.

“What do you have in mind,” Kyuhyun asked the doctor.

“I don’t really know. I can’t think of that right now.”

With the hint of exhaustion in her voice, he couldn’t help but ask her again. “Have you eaten anything today?”

She could only put her head down and shake it sideways. “I actually just want to sleep, so anywhere is fine.”

He felt really bad for her, but he no longer wanted to burden her with thinking of a place to eat. “Just sleep while I drive. I’ll take care of it.”

“Thank you.” With that, she reclined her seat and immediately fell asleep.

“Soojin, why don’t you play I Spy to help daddy while daddy’s driving if you suddenly think of something to eat?"

“Sure, daddy! I’m warning you, you have to listen carefully, okay? I’m not gonna talk so loud because mommy’s asleep.”

Kyuhyun only chuckled at her cuteness and pure heart. “Thank you, baby, and I promise to listen very well.”

Author's note: I decided to post the next chapter right away, since I said in the previous chapter that I may or may not do a double update in just a short period of time (but before when I say that disclaimer, I usually give them that surprise 😜). Also gotta make up for the last four years that I left this story hanging (and because I've been writing a lot to detox, but of course I only get to do it when I have the luxury of time).
