Forget-Me-Not

Decision

The next morning, Wendy woke up, but not from her own room. She was still in Taeil's room, on his bed. She looked around to find Taeil sleeping on the couch instead of his own bed. She felt bad sleeping over at his house again, knowing this would happen. The first time she slept over, as a joke she had asked to sleep on the bed and him to sleep on the couch as she is the "lady". But the joke became a habit and every time she slept over, it was always her on the bed; Taeil on the couch. She grabbed the blanket she used to cover Taeil. She smiled at him sleeping. For a quiet person like him, he could not stay still while sleeping, and constantly moved around. Wendy ruffled his hair like he was a kid.

She quitely creeped down, not wanting to wake Taeil nor his grandmother. However, when she got downstairs, Taeil's grandmother was already awake, making breakfast. Wendy couldn't help but smile at the smell of food.

"HALMEONI," Wendy called, hugging Taeil's grandmother from behind.

Wendy's grandparents had passed away long before she was born so it was always nice seeing Taeil's grandmother. Grandmother adored Wendy as if she was her own grandchild.

"Ah," Taeil's grandmother said. "Wendy-ah, where were you yesterday? Why didn't you come over for dinner?"

"I had some leftovers my mom made from before," Wendy lied.

"But today you'll have breakfast before going to school right?"

"I want to... But I'm scared I might be late for school."

"I'll pack you some, so go home and share it with your sisters."

Taking the packed breakfast, Wendy hurried over to her house. She looked at the clock which read 7:06. She had 24 minutes to take a shower, eat breakfast, change, and brush her teeth to catch the bus on time. Groaning, she ran as fast as she could upstairs to her room, grabbing her change of clothes from the closet and running for the bathroom. Yet, unfortunately for her, the bathroom door was firmly locked.

Knocking, she yelled, "Who's in the bathroom?!?!"

"Chill, Wendy," her sister said, calmly.

Judging from the voice, Wendy assumed it was her older sister, Irene. Irene, majoring in art in college, didn't need to go to school early as her classes started in the afternoons. Wendy had often fought with her sister about using the bathroom. Wendy's claim was that she should be the first one to use the bathroom as she is the first one to leave the house; whereas Irene argued whoever woke up first and got into the bathroom should use the bathroom. As always, Irene won, being the oldest of the three sisters. Wendy's younger sister, Yeri, was ten years younger than Wendy, only 8. Being the only one that was born in Korea, Yeri only had her Korean name.

"Unnie, please," Wendy shouted, hoping to be heard through the running water sound coming from the inside of the bathroom. "I'm already late for school."

Irene then came out, her hair tied in a bun, with a headband. Despite her bare face, Irene face shone with good looks. Some people said Irene and Wendy looked alike, but her family only complimented Irene of her looks and never Wendy.

"This is why you should've slept at home. Or used Taeil's bathroom. How is grandmother?"

"She's fine. She made us breakfast. Go down and eat it."

Wendy hurried in, slamming the door behind her and locking it. She quickly took off her top and hopped into the shower. Turning on the water, she flipped her hair foward so that she was able to wash her hair. She applied extra shampoo and extra conditioner as always. Having thick, frizzy hair, it was hard to wash all of her hair using just a tiny bit of shampoo. And she applied extra conditioner in hopes of keeping her frizzy hair calm. After having washed her hair, she wrapped her hair into a towel and quickly brushed her teeth while changing into her school uniform. She checked the clock one more time before running into the bathroom to finish brushing her teeth. 7:28. Panicking, she quickly rinsed and dried her hair one last time before grabbing her school bag and running downstairs. When she went down, Irene had made coffee for herself and sipping away at it while reading the newspaper.

"Are you going to eat something?" Irene asked.

"I don't have time to," Wendy replied. "I'll just get something from school cafeteria."

When she got to the bus stop, she was a mess. Her hair still not dried and sticking out because it was not combed; her bare face rough without any lotion applied; her uniform nor shoes tidied. Catching her breath, she quickly whipped out her comb and started brushing at her hair. Then she took a seat at the bus stop and fixed her shoes. When she was done fixing herself, the bus came, along with Taeil running from the opposite direction. Not being a morning person, Taeil must've slept in again, especially after staying up late yesterday.

"TAEIL-AH," Wendy screamed at top of her lungs, not caring if anyone stared. "RUN!"

When the bus came, Wendy begged the bus driver to wait for her friend, who arrived almost a minute after.

"Thank you," Taeil said, breathless.

They quickly climbed and found a seat at the back of the bus. Wendy couldn't help but laugh at how Taeil looked. His eyes were still half closed, as if he had not washed his face, and bit of toothpaste was visible on the corner of his mouth. His uniform tie was undone and just hanging on his neck, his pants still ped.

"Your fly is oepn," Wendy remarked.

Startled, Taeil looked down at his zipper and saw it undone. He swiftly zipped it up and fixed his tie.

"What would you do without your noona, hm?" Wendy joked, ruffling his hair.

"You're younger than me, Wendy," he replied, yawning. "I'm going to sleep just a bit more, wake me up when we get to school."

Clutching his bag close to him, he soon dozed off to sleep. Rolling her eyes, Wendy took out her headphones and her phone from her bag. When she unlocked her phone, the recent call with Taeyong was opened. Smiling to herself, Wendy reminisced the short conversation she had with Taeyong last night. Even after getting Taeil's support and consent, she was still unsure as to what she should do. It was true that Wendy badly wanted to be featured in the upcoming movie with Lee Taeyong, whether it was a big role or not, but she could not help but think back to the incident that had happened yesterday. If she did act in the movie, she didn't think that would be a right thing to do for her best friend. Sighing, she the music, and plugged her ears with headphones. Her mind was conflicted and she didn't want to think about it.

"How did you audition go?" her friend and partner Doyoung asked.

"It was okay," Wendy replied.

"Did you get in?"

"Yea..."

"Oh my gosh! CONGRATULATIONS!"

Not knowing how Wendy felt, Doyoung stood up and went to the front of the class, getting everyone's attention.

"EVERYONE, please quite down for our future top actress!" he scolded.

"Future actress? Who?" another classmate, Yuta, asked.

"Wendy, of course," Doyoung replied, beaming. "She got in!"

"Congratulations!" everyone shouted in unison, some clapping and wooting.

"Ugh," Sooyoung groaned. "She got in, so what?"

"Yah Park Sooyoung!" Doyoung shouted. "How could you say that? It's a good thing! It's a GREAT thing!"

"Okay, fine. She got in. Good for her. What does it have to do with us?"

"Can't you just congratulate your classmate?"

Scoffing, Sooyoung said, "Since when did she become our classmate? Since when did you guys care about her so much? Don't you remember what she did? What she did to Seulgi?"

Awe-struck, Doyoung tried to reply, but then stopped himself. Replying in any way would not make the situation better. Rather, Wendy was at a disadvantage and defending her now could lead to more problems.

"Why? Why don't you fight back as you always do, Wendy?" Sooyoung mocked.

"You know what?" Wendy retorted back. "Does it really make you feel better to keep brining up my past? I know you don't like me, but that doesn't mean you can talk trash about me when I'm right here!"

Wendy was practically yelling at top of her lungs. Everyone stared at her and she more than enough wished that someone would stand up and stop her.

"Wendy," Taeil softly said. "Apologize to Sooyoung."

He was frowning, clear sign that he was not happy with Wendy. She was more flustered than ever. How could her own best friend not defend her?

"You're a jerk," Wendy said, glaring him down.

Taeil looked hurt at her words, but she was even more furious at him for not defending her when she needed him to.

Now staring at everyone, Wendy more calmly said, "Why do you all always bring up the past? I'm trying to make everything right! Why are you so against me?"

Wendy barged out of the classroom, not caring what others thought. She felt someone following her, but she ran as fast as she could to outside the school building to a flower garden next to the school. Wendy stood looking at the flowers for a moment. She had come to the same garden and looked at the same flowers for her time in this high shcool, but she never realized how calming they were. The gently blueness of the flower seemed to soothe her, as if the flowers themselves were feeling the sadness Wendy had felt. The flower garden was a bit like a hideout place for Wendy and Taeil. They often came afterschool, or even during school if they just needed a break, and laid down on the dirt, staring at the sky, eventually falling asleep. Thinking about Taeil, she grimaced. How could he take Sooyoung's side?

'That jerk,' she thought to herself, kicking the dirt on the ground, creating a ditch.

She sighed to herself, feeling sadness coming up against her and crouched doown to inspect the flowers more carefully. She remembered Taeil telling her about the flowers previously: "Forget-Me-Not," Taeil said. "The flower meaning is quite beautiful actually. It means 'true and undying love' or 'remembrance during partings.'"

"What's the flower called?" someone asked, waking Wendy from her thoughts.

Startled, Wendy turned around to see who was talking to her. She was even more surprised when that someone was none other than Lee Taeyong. He was wearing her school uniform with a cap and sunglasses on. Even then his visuals were clearly shown through the accessories.

"I... It's called 'Forget-Me-Not." Wendy replied. "Isn't it really beautiful?"

Taeyong then took off his sunglasses and looking straight into her eyes.

"What are you doing here? Wendy asked. "Do you even go to my school?"

"Unfortunately, no," he replied. "But I'm considering transferring here because you're here."

"What?" Wendy retorted back, startled.

Her heart skipped a beat. Taeyong said the words so seamlessly thay Wendy was left pondering how many people he said these words to. Tens, hundreds, or perhaps even thousands. Yet, her heart was pounding more rapidly than before.

"So, did you think about it?" Taeyong asked, ignoring Wendy's question.

"Think about what?"

"Well, being in the upcoming movie, of course."

Perhaps cause of Wendy's facial expression hardening, or because he finally realized, but Taeyong added, "I'm really sorry about my rude actions towards your friend. And I would really like to work with you."

Wendy thought about Taeyong's apology for a second. He did seem genuine for the most part. Plus, Taeil just now had not defended Wendy, so why should she? Thinking back to what just happened, Wendy was pissed again.

"I'll do it," she said. "I'll be in the movie. With you."

Smiling brightly, Taeyong offered his hand. Wendy grabbed it as she stood up. Then they shook hands.

"I'm very glad you are joining me, Miss Son Wendy."
