And In That MomentThe problem with believing what others say is that it's not always the truth.
It had been two years since Sohee graduated high school, and she was working in another city when she saw Jiyong again. They had spoken here and there, little awkward happy birthday's or merry Christmas's over social media, but the time and distance hadn't gotten rid of the feelings. Actually, she had genuinely thought that she had no feelings for Jiyong, but when she was trying to pick out a gift for her then-boyfriend's birthday, she heard a blast from the past.
"That's a good choice if your man is into fitne-" His words froze between his lips as she turned to him, wide-eyed with surprise. "Sohee?"
"Jiyong," she greeted in a voice that didn't want to speak over a whisper. She took several steps back and bowed to him, formally as if to a stranger, and as she straightened she saw a flash of pain in his eyes.
And he didn't hold it in, either. "So that's how you still want it, then," he said in a flat tone, then without another word turned to walk away.
Confusion crinkled Sohee's brow, and before he could go too far she caught his arm and pulled him to a stop. "What do you mean? You're the one who-" broke my heart, she almost said, and realized right then that it was true. Her heart, no matter that she had been dating someone for the past five months, was not whole.
