PLOT

Fire to Ash is fantasy story set in a kingdom riddled by darkness and rumour. The main character, Seolhwa, is captured in an attempt to steal a cure for her mother, and is forced to remain prisoner to the mysterious King Chanyeol, a supposed tyrant, for penance.

The story is fairly short for a fic, roughly 7 chapters, so it's definitely a bite-size, bingeable read! 

THOUGHTS

What I liked the most in Fire to Ash is the underlying mythos of the kingdom that it's set in. The details don't overwhelm you, but you are fed just enough to keep you wondering. Why is the King so afraid of the dark? Is there such a thing as a past life? The interaction between the characters is done really well, because the pacing is perfect. Seolhwa is wary, rightfully so, of her surroundings and the King is... affected, to say the least. You watch both characters learn to adapt to their environment and each other.  

The dialogue in this story is also balanced well as the characters alternative between levity and sometimes philosophical ponderings, making the characters feel more real as you get to know more about their personalities and moral comp
