(a/n: after writing this my playlist randomly played iu's voice mail. i was looking for title ideas so i looked up the lyrics and to say the least, i got the chills. listen to the song and check the lyrics. stan iu.)

she calls her at 3 a.m, her voice is a bit muffled, and she sounds disoriented. "i miss you," she whispers. a beat of silence, and then she hears sana sobbing sleepily on the other end of the line. still, she doesn't comment on it, knowing well it would only hurt sana even more. 

they don't hang up, and when sana wakes up, squinting at how bright her room is, she notices the way her phone is on her pillow and frowns, as if she's seeing it for the first time. she picks it up, presses it to her ear, and with a sleep-laced voice she softly asks, "hello?"

"good morning," jihyo replies. her voice is tired, and she's slurring her words. 

"did you just wake up?" sana asks, fully aware that jihyo didn't even go to sleep at all.

"yes," jihyo lies through her teeth, and sana hears the sad smile on her face. she hears the no in jihyo's voice, the "why are you asking when you know i didn't," and how empty it seems. 

they sit in silence, sana is staring outside her window, at the bird perched on the lemon tree, and at the way the wind gently brushes the green leaves. her ears pick up the distant sound of shuffling, and the loud purring, and she closes her eyes, watching the scene unfold
