Languyin | Ride Home
It’s a long drive on another Friday morning. Two hours passed but we’re just halfway there.
You’re still the same, sitting on the passenger seat with dreamy eyes and a vibrant smile. You look out the open window and your eyelids flutter as the gentle breeze blows on your face.
I sing along to the song on the radio and I feel you looking at me. I steal a glance and see the amusement on your face.
Don’t you know that it’s my song for you?
Minu-minutong pinagmamasdan
(Every moment watching)
Ang orasan kasabay ng pagtibok
(The clock ticking with the beat)
Ng pusong nag-iingay bukang bibig
(of my heart that makes noise like an open mouth)
Handa na muling sa pagkawag ng kamay sa tubig, sa tubig
(I’m ready to dip my hand in the water again)
Mundo ko'y baliktarin,
(Even if my world turns upside down)
Babalik-balik ka rin
(You'll always come back)
Tila di nauubusan ng hangin at ng paraan
(Like we're never running out of air and ways)
To my surprise, you sing the chorus with me.
Lamunin man ng alon handa ako, ako
(Even if the waves eat me up, I'm ready)
La-la-la-languyin, la-la-la-languyin
(I will swim)
Tangayin man ng hangin
(Even if the winds blow me away)
Maligaw ay handa akong
(Even if I get lost, I'm ready)
La-la-la-lakbayin, la-la-la-lakbayin
(I will continue the journey)
With my little ounce of optimism, I hoped it’s your song for me too.
“Seul, can I choose the music?”
I nod with a smile.
Of course.
You choosing the music means you will smile.
You will bop.
You will sing.
And your voice is the sweetest sound to my ears.
The music starts and sure enough, you nod your head and sway to the beat. You sing-along to the chorus and I can’t help but grin.
It’s your favorite song next. Whether it is pure coincidence or you teasing me, it hits me with a sense of familiarity.
The melody starts slow and it reminds me of all the times we’ve been in the same situation, riding my car away from the stress that consumes my mind.
Took a morning ride to the place where you and I were supposed to meet
The city yawns, they echo on, my thoughts are spinning on and on my head it seems
They lead me back to you, I keep coming back to you
You lean your head on your hands, eyes towards the sky.
Took a morning ride, gotta leave this all behind, for with you is where I want to be
Maybe it's fate that we can't control
Oh, round and around it goes
And all that we seem to know
We just gotta let it go, we just gotta let it go
But I can’t let you go.
So I'm coming home to you, you
You're all I need, the very air I breathe
You are home
