Bad Hyungs!

Everyone Included!

Seungri had been waiting patiently enough.

Or at least, that’s what he thought.

The guests had been coming in and out, plates had piled up, and staffs were cleaning up the dirty tables. The restaurant was getting emptied and the hyungs should have been there by now.

Seungri hated to wait. So, he sat right in the middle of the door; playing his car toy while puckering those small lips of his. Where were the hyungs?!

“Riri! You’re blocking the way~!” Came Lee Mommy shout from the counter. It was the busy cleaning hour and here was little Seungri; sulking and effusing out dangerous vibes, scaring all the staffs away and hampering their movements.

Seungri was too busy with his boiling rages that he only willed to shift an inch. His hand was still clutching his car toy tightly before he finally decided to stand up. The staffs were secretly sighing in relief. Unfortunately, the reliefs didn’t last long as Seungri toddled towards the counter, face red as a tomato. All the staffs knew it indicated nothing but grave danger!

Seungri could careless as he reached the counter. He pushed the board and entered, reaching for his mother who was writing down notes in a hasty manner. Again, Seungri could careless. He pulled his mother’s dress and hid his face under it.

Lee Mommy only looked at him; at the antique he was pulling. “Ri-ah, what are you doing?”

“I want the Hyungs~” Seungri whined, “I’m bored, Mommy!!” he sternly voiced out, locking gaze with his mother. “Where’s the hyungs? I want to play with them.” He started to sniff. Droplet of fresh tears rolled down his cheeks, head low.

Lee Mommy cooed before finally scooping him up. She gave him a quick peck on the cheeks, “Ooh…Look at my baby, why are you suddenly crying, hmm?” She asked, lightly chuckling as Seungri rubbed his eyes forcefully. She pulled down his hand.

“I miss the hyungs.” He spluttered out between hiccups. He stretched his arms, now working on capturing his mom’s neck to lean on her chest. He hugged her closer.

“I pretty sure I’ve told you.” Lee Mommy closed her book. She turned toward one of her staff and told her she’s leaving through gestures, at the same time balancing Seungri between her arms. “I’ve told you they go camping with their schoolmate, haven’t I?” She walked up the stairs.

Seungri only nodded. “But, it’s yesterday, Mommy! They should have comeback today!” He complained; unaware that he was being laid on his bed. “Why aren’t they here?”

“They’ve just gone off today. They’ll be coming back tomorrow,” Lee Mommy explained, pulling the blanket to cover Seungri’s little body. She padded him, “Now, take your nap. You don’t want to miss out your cartoon tonight, right?” She pinched his nose playfully. “Be a good boy and I’ll be downstairs. Nap-nap, Riri.” She walked to the door, care not taking off her gaze from his little boy.

“Nap-nap, Mommy,” He whispered, sinking under the blanket as his mother’s shadow left the room. The clicking sound of the door haunted him as he rolled to his side; it was empty

He curled up in silence; realizing he was left all alone. Usually, there would be Jiyong Hyung next to him; holding him while allowing him to kiss his cheeks. Seungri had always loved it. There were also Youngbae Hyung who would hug him from behind; competing for his attention with Ji Hyung, or Daesung Hyung who would stopped Bae Hyung and his Ji Hyung. Lastly, Seunghyun Hyung would be the one snatching the blankets, running around and making noises until Seungri’s mother had to come up. Napping time was always full of fun!

But now, Seungri was afraid…

He had never slept alone! The room was unpleasantly dark and there were weird noises outside; had those noises always been there? Seungri curled his little toes. He wanted his hyungs!! He hid under the blanket and rolled frantically under it. He remembered Seunghyun Hyung told him once about the monsters under the bed. Hiii!!! What if they suddenly popped up?! Oh no! Seungri had to run now before the monsters came up!

He quickly jumped out of his bed, reaching for his jacket and put it on. It was troublesome as the sleeves kept on playing tricks on him. Where was Bae Hyung at this time of the day?! Seungri wanted to scream.

He forced his arms in and pulled the zipper up. Once he made peace with his jacket, Seungri briskly opened the door, tiptoeing as he did so. He knew his mother would never let him skipped his nap time, but at the same time his mother didn’t know he couldn’t sleep well without his hyungs! So, rather than being the monsters’ lunch, Seungri preferred to brace himself on an adventure. He was brave afterall!

So, with his little mind, Seungri cautiously walked down the stairs. He was more than relieved when he saw the restaurant was flooded with another troop of guests. No one was paying enough attention to realize he was toddling out with his little panda doll in his grasp. His bright jacket wrapped him prettily as he sneaked between people.

His smile immediately brightened once he’s outside. It was bright and he was one step closer to meeting his hyungs! He dragged his doll and walked away from the restaurant with head being held up high. He was damn sure his hyungs were waiting on the playground they’re usually played at. He strolled, took sharp drifts, jumping up and down the flower beds on the street side. He was literally a ball of exploding energy until the sun decided to play hide and seek with him.

He shivered when the cold wind hit his body; he squinted and found the sun was nowhere to be seen. The clouds above him had gathered and the blue sky had turned gray. His braveness went away alongside the sun right there and then. His heart dropped as he picked up his doll; where was he?

Where was Dae Hyung now that he was walking around the city?

There were no hyungs holding his hand.

Seungri was lost.

Loud steps thundered in the busy restaurant. Lee Mommy had just excused herself to check on her baby only to come down looking ten years older. Panic was written all over her face as she scanned the whole restaurant with eyes like those ready to shot a dagger.

“M—Mrs. Lee?” a staff dared herself to ask. Never in the history of Lee’s restaurant had Lee Mommy come without a smile. Her smile had always been constant, ready to split her face into two any time she desired it to. Yet, now, all the staffs were backing away in fear as Lee Mommy unleashed her inner flame.

“Had anyone seen Seungri?” She darted her eyes to one by one of her staffs. The time seemed to freeze as they all gasped. But; she didn’t need all that gasps and pities!! What she needed was information regarding her baby whereabouts! Her heartbeat accelerated as hundredth possibilities flooded her mind, “I asked; HAD ANYONE SEEN MY SEUNGRI?!” Now, her heart was shriveling as she found herself had difficulties supplying oxygen to her lungs.

Her Seungri; her little Seungri was nowhere reachable from her sights. He was so tiny, so small he barely able to save himself from tripping so frequently. He was so small and he was nowhere under her supervision. He must be so afraid right now; he was so small!

“I ask—“

“I—I think I saw him wa—walked out the door?” A male staff stuttered. Lee Mommy felt like falling.

Her baby; her little Seungri was out there? Alone?! In the middle of the freaking big Seoul he hadn’t even recognized well?! He was too small; HER BABY WAS WAY TOO SMALL IN THE TOO BIG SEOUL CITY!! He must be scared to the point he peed himself! He was too small!!

Lee Mommy dropped everything on hand, dashing out of the restaurant. She fled to wherever her feet dragged her to. Her gaze thrown from one side to another, her voice thundered as she called out for her baby. The sun was setting down and her adrenaline was rising up. Where was her baby?!

She shouldn’t have left him alone; she should have known her baby had never slept alone before! She forced her legs to run faster as the sky started to cry in her stead. She was racing with the setting sun as the drizzle trickled down harder. Her voice started to compete with the rain and the harsh resonance of his feet hitting the puddles beneath. Her legs were about to give up when her eyes caught the glimpse of a neon bright yellow bundle.

She ran there without a heartbeat. She swiveled the little neon bundle to have her lungs squeezed all the oxygen they had long demanded. It was her baby! Her small baby that was too small for the big Seoul; now safe and sound in her arms. She couldn’t help herself not to hug him for her dear life. “OMG, my baby!!” She cried out loud; relief washing over her. “I’m so worried for you! Don’t you ever go away from Mommy’s sight. Mommy’s sorry, really really sorry.”

Little Seungri was shaking in his mother’s arms. His hand clutched tightly around his mother’s neck as his cry blew off. He cried his lungs out that evening, clutching on his mother as his mother walked him home.

The restaurant was closed earlier that day. Mrs. Lee didn’t make any comment when asked.

“Tell me, why did my baby run away?” Lee Mommy gently asked as she cowered down to have her ears in the same height with Seungri’s face. They had taken a warm bath after both coming back soaked  under the cold rain shower. She was rubbing his hair with fresh towel, “Riri-ah, what do you say?”

Seungri remained quiet. He hadn’t spoken a word since he came back; probably still in shock. His face red and eyes swollen, lips pursed tightly but hands never let go of his mother. He let his mother get the job done.

He followed his mother everywhere until they were settled in front of the TV, a bowl of ramyeon sitting on the table. He was sitting between his mother’s legs and leaning comfortably on her stomach. His favorite cartoon was on, but Seungri didn’t feel like watching it.

He scrunched up his eyebrows, “Mommy, why is the cartoon not fun?”

“Is it? You always laugh at it.” Lee Mommy was a bit taken a back at the sudden question. She couldn’t deny, though. The cartoon was throwing lame jokes and well; she never really got how Seungri and the hyungs loved it from the very first place. Speaking of truth, Lee Mommy could never really process how the boys laughed their heart out of the lame cartoon. But, yeah; children… Who fathomed their imaginations anyway?

“Should I turn it off then?” Lee Mommy whispered, brushing Seungri’s hair away from his face. The boy nodded and so she did. It was probably the first time Seungri rejected this cartoon.  She straightened up and pulled her boy closer. “Let’s have our dinner then?” She asked her boy, cheery tone lacing her voice.

Seungri only shook his head weakly, pouting. Lee Mommy’s lips instantly curved downward too.

“Why don’t you want to eat, hm? It’s your favorite ramyeon here,” Lee Mommy tried to coax the baby. She clapped Seungri’s hand in her and tried to feed him only to have her hand being shoved away. She locked their gazes, “Mommy doesn’t appreciate you rejecting food. What did Mommy told you about not eating your dinner?”

Seungri broke their eye contact as soon as his mother brought up her stern tone. He played with his fingers instead. His voice smeared with pure guilt, “Riri wasn’t grateful for the food God has given to Riri. Riri wasn’t grateful for what Mommy and the farmers have done too. That Riri is not a good boy.” He took a pause before shooting up to challenged his mother, “But, Riri doesn’t feel like eating and no one can force me!”  He crossed his arms.

Lee Mommy only sighed. Her boy really was such a handful to be taken care of. She shook her head.

“What is the hyungs eating there, Mommy?” came Seungri’s sudden question. She caught him fiddling with the end of her sweater. It didn’t take her long to grasp what the solution was against the headache her son was causing.

“We can call the hyungs, you know?”

“We can?!” His round eyes instantly widened, sparkling like shooting stars had just decided to fall on them. His face lit up brighter then the full moon outside.

Lee Mommy couldn’t help but chuckled at her son’s enthusiasm; it was as if all the life that had been drained out of him had just suddenly all came back. Seungri jumped down from her lap and could no more keep his little feet gravitated as they marched to the telephone. His giggles bloomed and she convinced herself she was doing the right thing.

She put the phone back.

Seungri dropped his enthusiasm.

“You’ll have your dinner first before we call them.” Lee Mommy instructed.

“We’ll call right away once I finish? No more other things?”

“Mmh.”

“Pinky promise!”

“Pinky promise.” Lee Mommy intertwined their pinky fingers and Seungri immediately flew out the room. She watched from afar how good Seungri was eating. A smile made its way to her face as he opened his mouth; taking in a big spoonful of noodles eagerly and munching it devouringly. She swore she could watch him do that for the rest of her life.

Well, at least, until he came scurried in with cheeks bulging up and down crazily as he munched his food. Red stains all over his lips and cheeks. She wiped them up and gave him water.

“Shall we call now, Mommy? I’ve done the ramyeon.” He rubbed his hands together in a pleading gesture. Feet couldn’t stop fidgeting.

“Sure, Baby.” Lee Mommy smiled at him and grabbed the phone, clicking numbers. She held the phone and Seungri pressed his ears against it. She could make out how loud Seungri’s heart was thumping with excitement as he bubbled up with expectation.

They were both anticipating rings after rings, waiting until what greeted them was a deafening ring. Seungri had instantly pulled away and shut his eyes, his two hands covering his ears.

“They’re not answering, Ri-ah…” She told him.

“Once again, Mommy!” Seungri commanded. His mother picked up the phone once again and he was thrown yet again with another disappointment. There was no answer. Why didn’t the hyungs answer?

Had they forgotten about him? They must be out there with their friend! He didn’t like being forgotten! He wanted his hyungs!!  Seungri started to throw tantrum. Where was his hyungs?! Why didn’t they call him? Didn’t they miss him too?

Seungri wanted them!!

“Mommy…” He called out, spreading out his arms and waited to be lifted. He was angry, so angry he’d stop caring!! His lips pursed.

Lee Mommy only sighed before gladly collected him. She carried the sulking baby to their room.  She placed him down to sit across her, keeping a safe distance between them to talk comfortably. She lit up a therapeutic candle and they stared at each other until she broke the silence gently, “Does Riri know what ‘missing someone’ really is about?”

Seungri didn’t answer. Instead, he crawled onto his mother’s legs. So, Lee Mommy rearranged the pillows and straightened her legs so Seungri could lean more cozily.

She decided to take it on herself to answer her own question. “You miss someone you really love and used to have around. You think of them and want them beside you; just like what Riri is feeling now.” Her hands circled perfectly around his small waist, rhythmically swinging them both from side to side. “Everyone feels it too. Like Mommy missing Daddy.” She kissed his temple, “And, it’s hurting right, Ri-ah?” Her gaze end up landed tenderly on his son.

Seungri’s eyes somehow expanding with pure disbelieve, “Mommy too? Missing Daddy?”

“Yeah, every single day without exception.” Her mind seemed to wander off from the present as she looked at the distant; remembering the good old time that wasn’t coming back to her.

“But, didn’t you say Daddy will not come home again? You said Father had loved him more and that we have to let him go.” Seungri was now getting dizzy with the conversation’s direction.

“Yes, yes. Our Riri is smart.” She chuckled at his son’s remark. “Although Mommy has missed Daddy longer than Riri misses the hyungs, Mommy never got angry at Daddy, right?”

Seungri nodded. Guilt somehow started to tickle its way to his heart.

Lee Mommy saw this and grabbed the paper and pen from the bedside’s nightstand. “You shouldn’t be angry because no one is wrong when you’re missing someone. Mommy believes the hyungs also didn’t want to leave our Riri behind. But, they can’t confront their teacher’s, right? So, rather than throwing tantrums why don’t you do something for the hyung’s instead?”

Seungri only looked questioningly at the things his mother shoved at him. He took them all in total obliviousness.

“Write them letters? You love writing to them, don’t you?” Lee Mommy supplied as she placed a wide book on his legs. She then placed the paper on it and folded his hands into holding the pen. “Missing someone shouldn’t be about destroying yourself, ‘kay, Riri? Instead, Riri has to kick in stronger and proves Riri can do well by yourself. That way, the people you miss will not be worried about you. Understand?”

Seungri took awhile to process his mother’s words, but in the end he nodded with full determination. His eyes were twinkling again and his heart lips slowly crept up onto his face. “Mhm! Understand!” He made a cute salute and Lee Mommy couln’t stop herself not to duck down; attacking him with raspberry kisses which clicking on his laughing switch. Seungri rolled a full rotation on his bed as his mother did so. Laughter finally filled the air.

“Okay, okay, write it quickly and go to bed early, ‘kay? You have to wake up early for your show tomorrow.” Lee Mommy told between wheezes once they’d stopped. They calmed down and she gave Seungri space to write. He was writing the letters seriously.

“Faster, faster!” Jiyong shouted as he spurred his legs faster. His hand was holding his bag, while his other hand was waving frantically. He was leading the other on their dangerously, risky, unclear mission. He was still in his uniform and mud still smeared all over his face; just like the other.

Daesung was catching up behind him and Youngbae was far behind as he was dragging the less-athletic Seunghyun. The three boys were panting heavily as they struggled with their far bigger bags. Jiyong was however the fastest.

“Ji Hyung! We should turn here!” Daesung shouted. Jiyong had clumsily passed the turn they should run to. He heard a loud groan which was then followed by Jiyong’s sharp drift. They were all forcing their sore legs to keep on moving; uncaring people’s gazes that were surrounding them.

“Ah, come on; you big fat Seunghyun! Riri’s show is about to start! We can’t be late!” Youngbae finally complained.

“Yah, don’t disrespect me! I’m also trying to run here!” Seunghyun pushed himself harder. They squeezed through people and sneaked in, running to one clear end.

Their leg moved faster as they saw the tall school gate.  A row of boys Seungri’s age was walking up the stage when they finally managed to get in.

They quickly pushed their ways to the front line when the music started and Jiyong caught a glimpse of Seungri just in the right moment; second to the right of the stage centre. He couldn’t help but shouted, “RIRI-AH!!” His hand followed suit waving madly.

Daesung, Youngbae, and, Seunghyun who were surprised by the sudden shout looked at Jiyong before following him waving. The crowds were looking at them weirdly but their whole world was centered on Seungri; the boy’s smile was growing.

Seungri’s smile was expanding as snow white teeth one by one was being displayed, his eyes shone brighter than the sun, and they swore it was questionable how he hadn’t torn his face with that wide smile of his.

The hyungs was cheering on him when Seungri did the unexpected. He screamed to the top of his lungs, “HYUUUUNGS!!” and to the teachers panic; he ran down the stage in a rush. He ran to the hyungs’ spot and leapt in; tackling the hyungs into a big hug as he cried out, “Riri misses y’all sooo muuuuch!!! Don’t leave Riri again!”

He cried loudly right there and then on Jiyong’s chest; being squeezed inside all the four hyungs group hug.

The school’s show was put on hold and their surrounding was strangely quiet. Seungri’s cry exploded worse and the crowd of people went on awe-ing at the cute interaction between the five boys.

And, that was when Youngbae realized where they were.

“He—hey…” he tapped on Jiyong’s shoulder, uncomfortably untangling himself from the group hug. “We’re still in Riri’s school. And, I think we’ve… stolen the sho—“He couldn’t finish his sentence as he was then pulled harshly by a small hand.

“RIRI MISSES HYUNGS SO BAD!!!”
