“Lately I’ve been thinking, thinking ‘bout what we had~,” Jung Kook sang for the nth time but you were still slightly unhappy with his condition tonight.

You knew he could do much better but it seemed like he was being bothered by something on his mind. You sighed before clicking the button to pause the music and told him to come out from the recording room.

Jung Kook removed the headphones and took out his slightly crumped papers filled with his notes on how to enunciate the English lyrics precisely.

“Noona…” He said with a dejected voice before slumping onto the sofa behind you. “Why is my voice like this today?”

With your swift hands, you dragged down some of the buttons and shifted some up and let the recorded file played again. You listened to his voice again and began to point out the part which he should relax his vocal cords and put in more emotions.

“I know we’re on tight schedule but if we don’t rush out the cover by tonight…” You looked at him with an apologetic look, “I’m gonna get scolded,”

Jung Kook put his hands over his face and leaned back on the sofa.

You looked at him and felt kind of bad because for the past few hours you have been helping him with the English pronunciation and guiding him on the flow of the song. As you knew that he was a huge fan of Justin Bieber, he felt the need to put in even more effort so that he would not be disappointed by the outcome of it.

But deep inside your heart, you knew he was going to do well. He always did. He’s the golden maknae like what everyone else called. Perhaps just not tonight because he seemed to be losing focus much more easily than before.

Stress and lack of sleep you thought as you took a look at the papers again.

He slowly got up and moved beside you while you were running the lyrics with your hands again while humming the tune alone.

“Jung Kook ah,” You called out and pointed at the 3^rd line, “Have you been drinking away.. this part, I feel like you need to give in more emotions,”

He nodded his head slightly as he listening to you, “What about this part?”

“This part?” You asked as you looked at where he was pointing.

“Hmmm…” You turned around on your computer chair and started playing the recorded file before coming to the conclusion that it was fine.

“You alright?” You asked before standing up and putting your hands on your hips.

Jung Kook folded the papers and suddenly took you by surprise and asked, “Do you want to grab a beer?”

“Beer?” You said, slightly surprised and nervous because it was your first time seeing him like this. Most of the time you had only worked with Jung Kook in the recording studio and not on any other occasions outside.

“We can buy back and snack on some onion rings too,” He said with a smile.

Finally for once tonight, you saw Jung Kook smiling at you.

“Sure,” You replied and picked up your wallet before heading outside to the convenient store.

As he led the way, you noticed how Jung Kook was wearing his classic white tee with a pair of denim jeans and not to mention his favourite pair of Timberland. His built was too perfect for someone his age.

Honestly, you had wondered what it was like to be able to date someone like Jung Kook. Someone with a voice like that and the ability to be able to do almost anything. He was a pretty sweet guy too and you got to admit there was some times when you felt your heart fluttered because of his smile. You did have a small crush on him. He told you before that as compared to the other audio producers, you were the one he was able to feel the most at ease when it came to recording for their new songs and covers. Yet, you know you got to be professional and know when to draw the line.

“Spicy or salty?” He asked you as he picked up two packets of the onion ring snacks.

“Hmm….” You thought about it for a short while before choosing spicy.

“Me too,” He smiled again before walking to the cashier with a pack of 6 cans beers. You swear sometimes you just want to pinch his cheeks for being so good looking.

“Jeon Jung Kook what are you doing?” You asked before trying to take out cash from your wallet.

He was trying to pay for it and nudged you lightly away with his hips from the cashier as you almost managed to pass the cashier your money. Being much stronger, he succeeded in paying for the beers and snack and you ended up hitting his shoulder and told him not to do so anymore.

He shrugged mischievously before jogging lightly out of the convenient store and you ended up chasing after him.

“Noona can’t you run any faster?!” He laughed as he turned around and watched you trying to catch up with him.

“Ya! Jeon Jung Kook!” You said louder this time and he ended up slowing down and waited for you outside the recording studio.

Actually it was because you were the one holding on to the key pass to unlock the front door. If not for that fact he would have actually went inside and prepared himself to tease you for running so slowly.

You panted as you guys walked inside and he took out the beers and placed them on the desk.

“Look what have you done to me?!” You exclaimed as you checked yourself by the mirror. Your hair bun had loped to one side, with strands of your hair sticking out messily. Anyone would be able to tell that either you had a fight with someone or you had a really really bad hair day.  

“Do you want me help me do it for you?” He laughed at you while you let your hair down.

“Enough,” You said grumpily as you bit your hair tie with your mouth while you used your two hands to run through your hair, smoothing it out.

As you were back facing Jung Kook who was currently sitting on the sofa watching you do your hair, you did not realize he gulped when he saw you letting down your hair. It was not silky and flowy like those female idols but he liked it whenever he saw you with your hair down. But because usually you just work indoors, you don’t really spend much effort in dolling yourself up and out of 7 days in a week, you tend to tie your hair up in a messy bun.

Even though you said no, he suddenly came and stood behind you as he started to run through your hair with his fingers. He used his fingers like a comb and brushed it a few times before asking for the hair tie.

It was a small action but you felt yourself getting butterflies in your stomach. Being a head shorter than him, you could see from the reflection of the mirror that he was concentrating on helping you doing a hair bun.

Some times like this you wish he could be more careful about his actions. Yet secretly you didn’t really want him to stop.

“Noona you should let your hair down more often,” He commented as he twisted your hair up. “You look nicer like that,”

“Nahh…”

He was done within the next minute and you praised him for doing a pretty good job.

“Where did you learn this?” You asked and checked yourself out in the mirror.

“I don’t know,” He shrugged and sat down, “I’ve always seen you put your hair up and I thought it was doable,”

“Just by watching?!” You sat beside him and picked up the onion ring snack. “Impressive…”

As you tried to open the packet of onion rings you explained why your hair was always up. “It’s too annoying sometimes. I don’t like it when my hair gets in all my face,” You tried to tear it open carefully as you had a thing about opening the packet at the exact angles and concentrated hard.

Jung Kook noticed you suddenly getting quiet and another mischievous thought came into his mind.

“Noona!” He shouted and you freaked out and ended up tearing the snack harder than usual and spilling it over him and yourself.

“Yah!” You shouted as you were shocked by what you had done. “Jeon Jung Kook!”

He laughed at your funny state but as you hit him on the shoulders to pick them up before the 5 seconds rule he was ‘begging’ you to stop. “Ah.. stop it stop it! It hurts!”

After a minute or so, you guys finishing laying the onion rings which dropped on the sofa and floor on top of a piece of Kleenex.

“Cheers,” You said as you clinked a can of beer against him.

It was nice to drink such chilled beer and forget about the potential stress you had to deal it later on temporarily.

Jung Kook also seemed to be more relaxed after a few sips of beer and heaved a sigh of relief as he leaned back onto the sofa.

“Actually are you alright?” You asked as you popped an onion ring into your mouth.

“Me?” Jung Kook looked at you.

You nodded your head and explained, “You seemed a little weird today. You were singing like you had to not because you wanted to,”

Jung Kook avoided your eyes and used the opportunity to pop one onion ring into his mouth as well. “Just.. thinking about the song,”

“What about the song?” You asked and folded your legs as you were curious by what he meant.

“I mean the song is about lovers right?” He explained and paused while he took drank the beer. “And its somewhat sad and I’m thinking how I would be able to express that feeling,”

“Uh huh…” You probed him and took another drink too.

“I’m not experienced,” He confessed suddenly and you swore it was the first time you saw him blushing.

“Experienced like…?” Your eyes widened, “You’ve never been in love?!

“Ah noona!!” He said as he tried to cover his face with hands, “I mean not in love but I’ve never been in a relationship before,”

“Really?!” You laughed and patted him on the shoulders, “Our Jung Kookie…”

“Don’t laugh at me like this,” Jung Kook tried to show his annoyance and opened his second can of beer.

“Yah.. don’t drink so fast,” You commented as you saw him chugging the second can of beer. “We still have to record the song later,”

He told you he’s fine and continued to say, “Noona can I trust you on something?”

“Yeah?” That sentence caught your attention.

“I’m having a crush on someone,” He confessed and played with his hands, “But I’m not sure if I should confess to her or anything,”

“Wow,” You sat up again and looked at him. You were kind of surprised and shocked but then again you were glad that he had found someone he liked. Times like this you hoped that it might be you but you chased those thoughts away because you knew it was impossible for him to like someone like you.

“She’s older than me,” Jung Kook continued, “But I don’t think she likes me like I do,”

You looked at how he was feeling unconfident of himself and couldn’t help but let out a small laugh. “You’re still young that’s why you’re not sure about yourself. I’m sure you will be able to let her know your feelings soon right?”

“You think so?” He asked and looked at you again, “Noona, did you ever like someone before like this?”

“Yea? I guess?” You took another sip and thought about the past in high school when you had a crush on your senior but that was so long ago. “But I just let it go in the end without confessing to him. I think the media and society stereotypes made me think that guys should always so the confession,”

“I see…” Jung Kook nodded his head and finished his last drip of beer before opening the third one. “Guys should do the confession first…”

“Aren’t you drinking a little too fast?” You asked, concerned about how he was already on his third can while you were just finishing your first.

“Aiii~” He patted his chest lightly and smirked while telling you in his Busan accent, “누나~ 저는 상남자여~”*

You laughed and threw a piece of onion ring at him before saying, “Stop it!”

For the next 20 minutes or so, you guys talked about how music became an influence in your life and how you guys got into it. You’ve always enjoyed singing and wanted to be a ballad singer one day but you turned into writing songs and producing it when you started attending a vocal academy near your house during high school. Through that academy, your teachers thought you had the potential and recommended you to attend performing arts university after graduation and you did. You did your teachers proud by topping the audition and after graduation you were recruited to work as a music producer.

On the other hand, Jung Kook and you were trying to catch your own breath after he tried to imitate how Yoongi sounded in Fire. You tried to imitate Yoongi as well but ended up laughing too hard as well.

He was flushing from the constant laughter and most probably the beer but you thought he looked really cute when his face was slightly pink.

“Can you stand properly?” You laughed as Jung Kook tripped over his own foot while he was heading back into the recording studio.

He gave you an okay sign and as you went inside the studio you told him to try and think of that noona that he was mentioning before so that he would be able to portray his emotions.

You went through the lines one more time with him and you realized Jung Kook kept stealing glances at you from the side. You hit him lightly on the head with a pencil and told him to concentrate. He smiled at you and promised to stop fooling around.

You sang and harmonise together with Jung Kook, tapping the pencil in the air while counting the beats for him and making frequent eye contacts, “Nothing like us~ There’s nothing like you and me together~~~~”

Jung Kook and you smiled as you felt chills when you guys did it. He himself was surprised by how you guys sounded and clapped happily too.

You wished you were outside and had it recorded as it was as if you guys had chemistry and everything just felt perfect that time.

“See noona, I told you I can do it,” He said with a smirk and punched into the air.

“Alright! Remember that feeling Jung Kook ah!” You exclaimed as you ran back to your seat in front of all the buttons and signaled him to get ready.

You gestured that you were counting down as you began to play the instrumental audio file.

You saw him swallowed his saliva as he looked at the paper with lyrics and tapping his right foot.

“Lately I’ve been thinking~”

Oh god, you swore his voice was angelic.

“Thinking what about we had~”

You smiled to yourself and felt that this time it was going to be a great one. You adjusted some buttons and made sure that everything was alright before focusing on Jung Kook again.

He closed his eyes as he sang and you could see that he was trying his best by putting his emotions while singing.

Just then he opened his eyes and looked at you and you gave him a thumbs up while smiling and gestured to him to tell him that he was doing a good job.

However, as he continued singing, his eyes never left yours and somehow you felt your heartbeat getting faster.

“I wish that I could give you what you deserve…”

Without knowing, you found yourself getting up slowly and watching him sing.

And then that was when Jung Kook hit the chorus.

“Baby I just want you to see.. There’s nothing like us~ There’s nothing like you are me~ Together~~”

You saw his right hand rising and reaching out to you and felt your breath getting away as if he was pulling you into some sort of trance.

“Together~”

You looked away and thought about what he had told you just now about the crush.

Was he referring to you?

You looked back at him and saw that he was still focused on you but this time his hands were beside himself.

“But baby I just want you to see, there’s nothing like us~”

You weren’t sure what happened or how long it had been but you were just looking at him and with him doing the same.

Finally when he reached the last part of the song, he sang it with such amazing voice and beautiful tone you felt so touched and found yourself tearing up.

It was only when you blinked that you realized you teared and immediately wiped them away.

You guys stood in silence as the instrumental audio ended and it was so silent you thought that it was so loud.

Jung Kook himself seemed to be surprised by what he had done but he was just looking at you to say something. He was slightly fidgeting as he was not sure what to expect.

“Jung Kook ah, erm, maybe you should come out first and listen to it,” You broke the silence and tried to make the situation less awkward by looking at the buttons around you, getting ready to replay for him to listen when he comes out.

“Noona,” He said finally into the mic and scratched his head. “Wait, I think I missed out this part,”

You looked up and stopped what you were doing as you were confused by what he had meant. He did a perfect job in executing the song and you didn’t understood what he meant by missing some parts.

He hummed the tone softly first as he bit his lips, showing some signs of nervousness before singing with just his voice,

“There’s nothing like us…

there’s nothing like you and me~

together~,”

He moved away from the mic and pulled down the headphone on his ears. He had a shy smile on his face and said,

“It seemed like you like guys who confess to you first and I think I should too,” He looked at you and tried to make himself sound more manly than usual but you just found it adorable that he was trying so hard to appeal to you.

And there it went.

“누나, 나랑 사귈래?”^

You were stunned for a moment.

It was you?

All along it was you?

The noona he had been referring to. It was you.

Jung Kook felt like his heart was about to burst as he waited for your reply.

Finally, you burst into a smile before nodding your head and shyly clapped your hands together in front of your face.

Jung Kook’s smile became bigger and he looked so beautiful than before.  

It really was you.
