I'm in Love with My Oppa

[Previously: Junhyung talks to Doojoon about how Jinjoo is hiding something from him. Doojoon agrees to babysit Jinjoo for Junhyung’s date with Yu-hwa.]

JINJOO

“Wanna go out and play some ball?” Ahjusshi asked.

    “You mean like soccer?”

    “Yeah.”

Of course, oppa told me how much he loved soccer. The thing was that, “I don’t know how to play.”

    “I’ll teach you.”

“Sure, why not.” With that, he grinned, took his ball, and took me to the field.

We ended up kicking the ball back and forth and running around for at least an hour before he decided to make me aim for the goal net thing. I got better as time went on and he decided to see if I could still make the goals with him acting as the goalie. To be honest, him guarding the goal was a bit intimidating so I would miss all the time. If I was lucky though, the ball would almost make it because he either blocked it or caught it.

“You gonna make this one, kiddo?” He grinned, knowing I’ll miss it again or that he’ll just block it. Okay, now he was just teasing me. Oh, he’s on!

“Shut up you old man! I got this!” I kicked the ball aiming towards the goal. This time, the ball did actually fly towards the goal. Before I could internally rejoice, it went straight towards Doojoon.

“Hey! Who you calling ol-” Before he could finish, he caught the ball. Or at least I thought he did. The next thing I knew, he was lying down on the grass, crouched into a fetal position. My eyes widened after I realized that he didn’t catch the ball. The ball hit him in between his legs. I ran towards my brother’s friend, who was now holding onto his precious friend like it was the end of the road for him.

The soccer ball rolled away from us as I hurriedly kneeled beside him, “I’m so sorry! A-are you okay?” He didn’t respond, instead he just kept groaning in pain in that same position, occasionally rocking back and forth. He was getting red and his eyes teary as I noticed a vein pop up from his neck. I can’t even express how much guilt I was feeling at the moment because I was too scared. He’s going to be okay right?

“Don’t die on me, ahjusshi! Oppa is gonna kill me if he finds out!” Okay, the last part was totally unnecessary but I couldn’t help it. Back then, I used to ‘accidentally’ mess with oppa’s friends, but it was okay because I never liked them and they were never really that friendly. Doojoon, however, seemed like a brother to him, so if I were to mess with him, oppa will probably get pretty pissed at me. I sighed, Doojoon was probably the first friend of his that I actually liked. And this time, it was actually an accident.

I didn’t even remember kicking the ball that hard. Did I?  “It can’t be that bad, can it?” I asked, trying to make the situation less worse than it was. Clearly, it was pretty bad, on his side at least.

“You wouldn’t know!” He wheezed out. It was the first response I got from him which made me feel a tad bit better.

“You’re right, I’ve never had one before.” I pointed out. He was still in pain, but he rolled his eyes at my comment, which made me smile. At least the pain was subsiding, even if it was only a little. I tried thinking of anything that could help him, but there was no use. We were in the middle of a park and it’s not like there was a cure for it. The only solution to his pain was to wait it out. I looked around, catching a few glimpses looking at our way. There was a couple walking by, who couldn’t help but giggle at the scene.

Oh great, the last thing this ahjusshi needs is people laughing at him because he got hit in the nuts by a girl. I had to do something. Right then, my instincts took over and I found myself lying on the grass, crouched up into the fetal position just like him. I started to rock back and forth, just like how he did, then presumed to rolling to the sides. Without me knowing, my body eventually started to roll around everywhere in that position. Any person witnessing this would’ve thought I was crazy for sure. I wasn’t sure how long I’ve been doing it, but pretty soon, the sound of ahjusshi laughing brought me to a stop.

“What are you doing?” He laughed out. I turned to the side to face him and saw him cracking up, but he wasn’t in his fetal position anymore. He was just laying on his side, clutching his stomach from laughter.

“What do you think I’m doing?” I asked as I rearranged myself into the soldier position and rolled my way back to him.

“I have no idea.” His face wore a questioning look for me to answer his previous question.

“Well, I was trying to make you feel less embarrassed because people were staring.” I said, sounding like I tried to do something nice for him, but all I got was laughter again. I did not just roll myself on the grass like a maniac for nothing, did I? His laughter didn’t die down yet, causing me to face palm myself. I think I just did.

“You’re hilarious, kid.” He got up, grinning as he helped me up. “Come on, let’s go back.”

“Oh. We’re not gonna keep playing?” I smirked. He gave me a look, and I just chuckled. “I’m just kidding.”

I went over to get the ball and walked beside him as we walked back to his house. Ahjusshi let me shower at his place since I got myself pretty dirty from rolling around the floor. Thankfully, I brought an extra set of clothes. I knew they’ll come in handy. Oppa wasn’t going to come back until later in the night, so we ate dinner when we both were clean. By the time we finished, we still had time to kill so we decided to play some video games.

“YEAHHHH!!! I did it!” I jumped up from the couch as soon as I shot the last remaining bad guy. The stage was completed, but ahjusshi stayed seated as he looked at me, amused.

“What?” I asked him, coughing to cover up my chuckle. Honestly, I couldn’t take him seriously when he had an ice pack on baby Doojoon.

“Hate to break it to you, but you shot your own teammate.” He pointed at the screen. He was right. Crap. How did I not see that? Apparently, he found the bad guy.

I sighed as I threw myself back on the couch. We played a few more rounds before we ended up watching TV after we got a little bored of playing. Pulling out my phone, I looked at the time and threw it back to the side. “Man I thought he was gonna be back like an hour ago.”

Ahjusshi had his eyes still glued to the screen, “Well, it’s a date. No rush, no rush.” An idea seemed to pop up in his mind because he turned to me suddenly, “Maybe you need to sleep over tonight.”

He wasn’t a ert nor a creep, that much I know, but my face contorted with confusion. “What do you mean by that?”

“You know, a date is romantic. And when two people love each other, like your brother and Yu-hwa,” I held myself from rolling my eyes as he diverted his eyes to speak what he was speaking, “well, one thing can lead to another. Um… like it can be a kiss at first, then maybe that can lead to-“

“OKAY OKAY I GET IT!!! I GET IT!!” I can’t believe he was explaining it to me like how he would explain how babies were made to kids. And the way he looked as if he was talking about some forbidden subject. Seriously ugh.

Ahjusshi let out a sigh of relief and shuddered, “Great, because I did not want to go there.”

“I’m not a kid. I understand… those stuff. It’s just that when he said he’ll be back at eleven, I expect him to be back at eleven. Right now, it’s twelve-thirty.” (A/N: jigeum urin machiiiiii~ LOL)

“Maybe I’m right. You wanna sleep over? I’ll let Junhyung know.”

I knew he was being nice and all, but it was really weird if I did stay overnight. Doojoon is like a brother to Junhyung oppa, but I only met the guy, kind of. Ahjusshi won’t harm me, since oppa had so much trust to put me under his watch. Even so, I don’t even know why I had to be here in the first place. “Thanks, but no thanks. Can’t you just drive me home or something?”

“Uh no. Junhyungie said to look after you until he comes back. I’m just doing what I’m told.”

“But whyyyyy?” I asked, wailing my arms all over the place.

“I think he said something about not wanting you to be at home all by yourself. Not safe, maybe?”

“Seriously? I’m eighteen. I think I can take care of myself.”

Ahjusshi just shrugged, “You know him, protective and all.”

I just groaned in response. Protective? Sure. More like controlling! I’ve already told him I was left home alone a lot when he was away. So it didn’t really matter if he left me home alone for his date.

“He cares for you, you know?”

“Yeah I know, he’s my brother.”

“Well, not all brothers love their sisters.”

Of course. This ahjusshi is giving me the ‘appreciate the ones around you’ talk. That I’m lucky I’ve got a loving brother who takes care of me all the time. Not all siblings have a good relationship. Yeah, “I know… and not all sisters love their brothers too. I’m just saying.”

    “Can’t disagree with you there.”

That’s right. Oppa is lucky to have a sister who loves him like I do. Well, not the romantic way, obviously, but as a sibling. I respect him, admire him, and listen to him. I don’t want to brag or anything, but I’m the total package here. Fine, just joking. But I think I am a pretty good sister. I don’t bother him anymore and I have always obeyed him. I listen when he needs to vent and give him privacy when he needs it. He could at least let me stay home alone. He’s got to stop seeing me as a baby.

“What happened to you?” A familiar voice brought me out of my thoughts, making me realize that ahjusshi was no longer sitting next to me on the couch. I looked over to see him at the door, opened to Junhyung oppa, who was looking at Doojoon holding the ice pack on his you-know-where.

“What can I say, I’m just a very hard opponent.” Doojoon turned to wink at me. (A/N: omg sorry guys i couldn’t help myself) All I could do was roll my eyes. I think everybody remembers that time this soccer pro just got hit in the nuts, yeah? It wasn’t that long ago.

“What?” Oppa asked, clearly confused and maybe a little disturbed at the slightly dirty wording.

I proceeded to collect my things as I cleared my throat to give a better explanation, “We went out to play soccer and I accidentally kicked the ball into his… balls.”

Oppa faked a cough to cover his laugh and by the time he recovered himself, I was standing next to him facing a playfully glaring Doojoon. “Thanks for taking care of her, bro. I know she’s kind of a hassle.”

My jaw dropped at his words. Are you serious, oppa? I am not a hassle! Why would he call me that? Sure I might be a teenage girl, but not all teens are hassles. I am very well behaved, thank you very much. But forget it. I’ll just let them do their ‘adult’ talk. Maybe Doojoon seemed to notice my fury or maybe not, but his next words made me like him even more.

“It’s no problem and she’s no bother. She’s cool. I had fun today.”

I smiled at ahjusshi who smiled back. This ahjusshi is awesome. “Thanks old man, I had fun too.” My smile grew wider as I saw his reaction. It was so funny I couldn’t help but stick my tongue out at him to more.

Junhyung oppa rolled his eyes and said his goodnights or goodbyes to Doojoon and turned around heading to his car, with me following him close behind. I turned around one last time to wave at ahjusshi, “Bye old man!” I mouthed at him as I sent him two finger hearts. He sent me another playful glare and in return, sent me a ton of hand-shoo-aways.

Oppa and I got into his car and drove off. Sometime later, he suddenly spoke up. “Hey, I’m really sorry I was late. I know I said eleven, but some things got-”

“It’s cool.” I cut him off, not wanting to hear whatever his excuse was. “It’s totally fine, really. Don’t worry about it, oppa.” We stopped at a stoplight and he looked over at me. I sent him a fake smile I knew he would believe. Smiling back, he ruffled my hair and focused back on the road. I was getting good at masking my feelings, wasn’t I?

“I hope you had a good time on your date.” I said, trying to lighten my obvious dark mood. By that, I meant obvious to me, not him because he seems oblivious to it. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing.

    “I did, thanks.”

I let out an inaudible sigh as I stared out the window, “That’s good to hear.”

Chapter 1: I can really feel my heart taking big leaps. The way you describe her feelings really helps the reader make connections. It really gets us engaging and stuck into the story this way. I'm a little let down that you left it here like this, hopefully you find the motivation to pick this up again. I thoroughly had loved this chapter.
