“I don’t understand.” Kai mumbles.

“I know. Soon everything will be made clear.” Yifan replies.

Kai takes a deep breath and follows Yifan as he turns and walks towards the bar. Yifan, not quite absentmindedly, waves his hand through a glass left on the counter. “I hate not having a solid form.”

Kai almost hesitates to speak, to pull Yifan from his thoughts. “Yifan, we can’t kill Jongin.” He says.

Yifan forgets the cup and turns his attention entirely to Kai. “Kai, I understand you love our brother very much but-”

“This has nothing to do with love.” Kai argues. “I would easily, gladly, bury my hand into his chest and rip his heart from his chest,” he pauses to let out a breath, “but I can’t. He’s not killable, like me, like you!” he growls.

Yifan chuckles at the redness creeping up Kai’s face. “Did I ever tell you about our mother and father?” he asks.

“Yes. They were the first hybrids ever created.”

“Yes. They were the most powerful beings in existence, they were fearsome killers too. They were the most feared creatures that have ever roamed the earth, they had the power to rule Heaven and Hell together. It was their destiny.” Yifan pauses, as if thinking about his next words put a sour taste on his tongue. “Then our mother, after years of terrorizing Europe and Asia, grew a conscious.” He looked away angrily. “She strayed from her destiny,” he turned back to Kai. “For the sole purpose of protecting that which
