MAMA~

‘Okay Momo, take a deep breath. Inhale. Exhale. Just don’t fall off and die.’  Momo was calming her nerves backstage before their performance. It would have been a piece of cake for her if it wasn’t for the stage platform that will be elevated near the end of their TT routine. It’s not like she has a harness on for safety and her head is being filled with endless possibilities of what could go wrong.

“Unnie, you’ll be fine. Don’t worry too much.” Dahyun spoke as she tries to help her relax. “Dahyun-ah, I need to go to the bathroom. Come with me please?” She pleaded. “Again unnie? Alright, let’s hurry up.” The younger girl couldn’t help but chuckle at her. They informed the others and went straight to the ladies room.

After Momo was done, they were rushing to return backstage only to be stopped when she almost collided with someone. The next thing she knew, two hands were on her shoulders helping her to not fall down. She looked up and her heart automatically started racing. “Whoa. Careful there, are you okay Momo?” Baekhyun was smiling at her and it made her mind go blank. “Uhh. Uhm—“ “Sorry sunbaenim, unnie’s all over the place right now. She’s nervous about the elevating platform.” Dahyun interrupted, saving her from further embarrassment. Baekhyun tilted his head and looked at her with a concerned expression. “Aw. You’re scared of heights?” She nodded. She felt her cheeks grow hot when he patted her head. “You’ll do great. Just don’t look down, focus on a face in the audience or the camera.” He advised before wishing them luck and went on his way. Somehow, she felt a little relieved by his words.

Before reaching the rest of the members, Dahyun couldn’t help but be curious. She tugged her shirt. “Yah unnnie, you like him don’t you?” The question startled her. “A-anniyoo.” She let out a very unconvincing denial. “Cause I think he likes you too.” Dahyun whispered and it left her smiling foolishly to herself.

They were inside a box that looked like a present. It was their props for today’s performance and in the next few seconds, they will be revealed by 3’s. She felt Jeongyeon squeeze her cold clammy hands. When she turned to face her roommate, Jeongyeon gave her a comforting smile and mouthed ‘Fighting!’ It was then that they heard the music started playing and as soon as the firs Sha sha sha echoed throughout the whole event’s place Momo felt the adrenaline rush. When their box opened, she was greeted by loud cheers and flashing lights. Something took over her body and she knew she was in her element. From the dance break to the costume change, she did everything with ease. Now, as their second song was nearing the end her heart was beating a little faster.  She remembered Baekhyun’s words about not looking down and focusing on the audience. But when she went to her position right beside Mina, she almost froze. There’s no audience in front of her. Not even a camera. They were facing the stage where they emerged. Her eyes were frantically looking for something to focus on. Then it happened.
