Chapter 7:

Jihyo helped Mina out of the building, and as she got out, she saw a very angry looking Momo coming towards her.

“YOU”RE INJURED TO THE POINT WHERE YOU CAN”T EVEN WALK?! WHY THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT MYOUI MINA?! DO YOU WANT TO GET YOURSELF KILLED? WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT NOT LEAVING MY SIDE?! We’re going to the hospital NOW!” Momo growled and took Mina by the wrist to her car.

However, anger was boiling inside Mina though. Why did she even care? She didn’t want a partner and kept on being cold to her when she tried to be nice. Momo also left her just now without even looking back when she called out to her. Also wasn’t she the one who said not to get in her way? Mina felt bad for breaking the promise of not staying beside her but in order for Momo to do her job, Mina was just a bother next to her so she decided to move and do what she can in order to not have any conflicts. But yes, it did lead to conflicts and yes she almost did get killed, but the culprit was caught because of her actions, partially. Yet she didn’t understand why Momo was this mad at her.

Momo opened the car of the Passenger side and made Mina go in. She then went over to the driver’s side and slammed the door as she got in. She turned the engine on but didn’t move the car. After a few moments of silence Momo said, “Before we go to the hospital we need to talk.”

Silence filled the car as both of them, not knowing what to do or say and fidgeted in their seats.

Momo then finally spoke up, “I’m sorry that I got carried away and yelled at you and if I grabbed your wrists too hard. Did it hurt?” Mina shook her head. Momo nodded and continued, “I’m glad you’re not killed and that you’re injuries don’t seem to be that bad. I was really worried. Mina, please don’t do that again. Promise me please? I don’t want to lose another partner…”

Mina couldn’t get a single word to come out and just stared at Momo. She was too shocked. It was the first time that Momo talked softly and caring to her and it was also the first time Momo had called her Mina and not Myoui. Mina was also surprised by the fact that she was worried and even asked her politely not to do something anymore. But what shocked Mina the most was that Momo was crying. Mina suddenly felt really guilty and understood why Momo yelled and got angry at her. Something had happened in the past. She knew that Momo had been hiding something all this time and that she changed because of something. But out of all the things it could have been, she didn’t expect Momo to have lost a partner. She had always thought Momo worked alone or with someone only when she was forced to. She now understood why Momo didn’t want a partner. She didn’t want to go through the same pain again.

They both just stared at each other. Momo silently crying and Mina giving her a sorry look. Both of them stayed like that for a while until Mina finally spoke, “I’m sorry Hirai-san. I’ll promise to not leave your side and do anything reckless again. Can you please forgive me?”

“Apology accepted and of course I’ll forgive you. You know I can’t stay mad at you for long. But no working for the next 2 weeks or until the doctors tell you so and that’s an order Myoui,” Momo smiled.

Mina was dumbfounded again because of Momo’s smile. Her heart was beating really fast and her hands were starting to get sweaty. And what was that about not getting mad at her for too long? She was ALWAYS mad at her. Mina felt like she was struck by two boulders. Plus she wasn’t able to work for a while either. As someone who loves to work Mina was really sad.

Momo chuckled, “You’re surprised that you can’t work for a while huh? Unfortunately with a hard mission like today’s mostly all the agents involved get a week off too. Unless an emergency situation occurs. So you’re not the only one going to miss work. Also you’re wondering why I said I can’t get mad at you for long right? Well Mina, I could never be mad at someone for too long but I just put the expression on that I do. So people don’t become too close to me. Plus your sweet personality and looks doesn’t help either. “

Mina was shocked for the fourth time today. She knew Momo was really sweet to everyone except for her partner but Mina didn’t know she was this sweet. Her good looks just adds to it too. Mina’s heart was fluttering badly and she knew that she had completely fallen for her partner. She made sure to put a stop on her heart this whole time since she knew the girl wouldn’t recognize her as a partner and more so as a human being. But now, maybe she can give it a try? Since she now knows that her partner cares for her.

“I-I see. Hi-Hirai-san, c-can I call y-you Momo-san? Also, I would like to know m-more about you. As a person, as a friend. Not as work partners. To understand you more. If you don’t want to you don’t have to I completely understand.” Mina finally replied back.

“I haven’t heard you stutter in a long time. I kind of missed it you know. When you used to be very afraid of me. Just call me Momo. It’s weird getting called Hirai or Momo-san. I guess you deserve an explanation. I’ll tell you what happened in the past,” Momo said nostalgically.

“Well you know that I graduated college at a young age and was recruited by the police academy. I always wanted to have a job that could save someone’s life other than a Doctor so I happily agreed. I’m not good with like blood and organs that’s why. I entered police academy and made a couple best friends. Jihyo, Nayeon and Jeongyeon. I graduated top of my class with them following close behind. Although we were separated except for Jihyo and me, we would still hang out and eat lunch together since we were all working at the headquarters. In my second year into work, I got assigned to a partner. I had a partner for the first 3 months for training but I worked alone after that. Since my bosses knew I could handle most things on my own. Not to brag or anything, I was one of the best detectives in the country even though it was still only my second year. I was still excited though since working alone is lonely sometimes and it was my first time having an official partner. Her name was… Kei. Her real name was Kim Ji-yeon but wanted us to call her that. She had also graduated top of her class and was recruited like me. She was bubbly, nice, always smiling. Although she was a year older than me, she didn’t really seem like it. She would always joke around with me and we would talk like we were best friends. We had so many similarities like jokbal being our favorite food and before I knew it, I had fallen for her. She was excellent as a person and in work too. She learned really fast. Kind of like you. Although I think your pace is a little faster than Kei’s. So, after 8 months working with her, we were known as the best team at the headquarters and were assigned many cases. One snowy day, we were assigned to a rescue mission from a kidnapper like today. We were told it was going to be really dangerous and it was. (Momo bit her bottom lip, shivering so Mina took her hand which surprised her but made her continue) Today… reminded me so much of that day. I was really worried. That’s why I made sure you didn’t leave my side. Because, Kei died the way you could have died. Going out in the open and tried to get the attention of the culprit while the snipers and others catch him. But in Kei’s case, everyone was caught off guard and wasn’t ready. The culprit grabbed her and said he would kill her and the hostage both of them if we didn’t leave. But we knew he was going to kill them either way. S-so Kei… sacrificed herself. Sh-she told us to shoot even if she gets shot. We were able to get the culprit and save the little boy but not Kei. She was killed on the spot. If we hadn’t separated trusting our own abilities, if I didn’t let Kei go, she wouldn’t have died. It’s all my fault. I killed my best friend and the person I loved.” Momo explained. She couldn’t hold it back in anymore and was sobbing really hard. Mina saw that she seemed to not be breathing properly so she hugged the sobbing girl, calming her down by her hair and whispering shh its ok, its ok.

Once the crying girl had calmed down and looked up at her, Mina gave her a small smile and apologized, “I’m sorry you had to go through this Momo. I’m sorry I made you remember. I’m sorry that I made you worry.”

This time it was Mina crying and Momo hugged her. Reassuring her, “It’s ok. You’re here now safe with me and that’s all that matters.”

Mina just cried even louder and mustered, “No Momo, it’s not ok. I don’t deserve someone as wonderful as you are, let alone a partner in general. I’ll go talk to Jihyo about us working alone. It’ll be better that way. She’s still over there talking with Nayeon senpai and Jeongyeon senpai. I’ll go tell her now.”

Mina started to get out of the car when Momo grabbed her hand (Being careful not to touch her injuries) and pulled her back with one, closed the door with the other and suddenly kissed her. It was a short but sweet kiss.

Mina was about to ask what was happening when Momo beat her to it. “Myoui Mina please don’t leave me. You just promised to never leave me. I need you by my side. I love you.” Momo said with teary puppy dog eyes, her cheeks flushing and looking down because of embarrassment.

When she looked up, she saw Mina with tears on her face. Which made Momo’s heart shatter in pieces. “She hates me now,” Momo thought and was about get out of the car like Mina earlier when Mina grabbed her hands this time and pulled her into their second kiss.

“I love you too Momo… I thought my feelings would never reach you. Since I thought you always hated me. I’m so happy that you also had feelings for me,” Mina sobbed.

This time it was Momo’s turn to be dumbfounded. She was super surprised that the latter had feelings for her when she was always being cold and mean to her this entire time. She was sure that Mina hated her.

Momo reached out her hands and cupped Mina’s face it with her hand to wipe away her tears. Mina doing the same for her. They were both a mess with tear streaked faces, with bags under their eyes, make-up being a total mess and one sort of heavily injured. The both of them laughed at each other’s faces and just stared into each other’s eyes. Momo then took the initiative and put her forehead against Mina’s and asked, “Mina would you be my girlfriend?” Mina just nodded and pressed her lips against the older one’s which the older one gladly reciprocated to.

The two finally headed over to the hospital to treat Mina and Momo’s wounds. As they arrived at the front entrance they could see a very angry looking Jihyo waiting for them.

“What took you guys so long?! We were worried sick you know!” Jihyo scolded them.

“Sorry but I was having a make out session with my girlfriend which is much important than coming to the hospital.” Momo smirked making Mina and Jihyo’s face crimson red. And also resulting in a devil Jihyo, “HIRAI MOMO DO YO--“ and Momo clamped telling Jihyo it was a hospital and not to shout with her finger to her lips.

Mina just stood there still red-faced and trying to hold back a smile, while a still irritated Jihyo was trying to pry Momo’s hands off . When she was finally able to, Jihyo gave a glare to Momo and then sighed.

“Nayeon is getting her wounds treated right now with Jeongyeon keeping an eye on her. Now you two go get treated too! Don’t start arguing with me Hirai Momo! I know a bullet grazed by your arm, don’t try to hide it! And congrats you two!” Jihyo smiled and shooed them away to go get treated.

Jihyo smiled once again, seeing the two were holding hands going to the examination room. She was truly happy for them being the only one that knew both sides of the story. She was also happy that her first intuition that Mina was probably the only one that could melt Momo’s cold heart was true and felt like she was their love cupid. “They better thank me like I said on their first day.” Jihyo whispered to herself.

So… here’s Chapter 7J. MiMo are finally together yay~~~. I’m sorry that it feels rushed though after so many chapters of awkwardness and coldness in between. But I kind of couldn’t bear to have them apart anymore haha. Also sorry that Momo totally changed characters, but it’s much nicer when Momorin is friendly and flirty then being cold.
