Under The Sea
Description
It's mating season and Minseon hates mating season.
That is until she meets lonely Jongdae who is someone new, someone she wants and someone that will change her life forever.
----
You have probably heard of mermaids.
They're a tale created by old sailors who came across the Syngnathidae Sapiens, a small species so distinctly different from anything ever seen in the ocean that they hardly believed their own eyes. Even fewer believed those who spoke of such creatures, and so the tales became grander and the Syngnathidae Sapiens turned into what today is called mermaids.
The Syngnathidae Sapiens are real, however. They're the size of a grown woman's hand and live in all parts of the sea, though are more commonly found in tropical, shallow waters. They look like you and me from the waist and up, a variety of hairstyles and facial features. Their hands are usually used for swimming along with their two, small fins on either shoulder blade. From the waist down you'll find the curled tail of a seahorse.
Their ability to change colors helps them hide from enemies and predators in coral reefs and kelp forests while they search for food on the ocean bed.
Usually seen in families, the Syngnathidae Sapiens rarely moves away from home once established and they're often mating within the same family for their entire lifetime. They mate twice a year and because the mortality rate of Syngnathidae Sapiens is about 89 %, they often give birth to as many as 25 offsprings once every mating season. The male carries the offspring while the female looks out for her partner. Syngnathidae Sapiens stay loyal to their mate for one season and not for the rest of their life.
Syngnathidae Sapiens are ually mature at the age of 2 and their life expectancy is 25 to 27 years.
Foreword
This a little crazy, I know, I know. It's absolutely necessary that you understand that they're reminiscent of seahorses and not fish though because this entire story is also based around seahorses such as the fact that seahorses are the only species known where the male carries the offspring to term.
Please give it a chance, even if it sounds a little crazy. I know it's mpreg but honestly, give it a chance.
I also know I probably messed a little with the eco-systems of the sea what with coral reefs and kelp forests so close to each other because they seem to be two very separate eco-systems, but I sort of needed the kelp forest for the story and ... Yes, forgive that. ^_^
(Also - I created the scientific name by combining the family name for seahorses Syngnathidae with the species name for humans Homo Sapiens. So Syngnathidae Sapiens.)
